The anime doesn't cover the parts of the story where she shows up.

Even if you don't watch the anime, you should at least watch the OP, which is deservedly a cultural touchstone for the weeb community.

Watched the Higurashi reboot only to find out it's not a reboot. I'm interested in seeing where this is going.
Bit of a random thing to bring up, but who here has seen and/or read Elfen Lied, and what are your thoughts on it?

All I know is that it has quite a love it or hate it relationship amongst the anime community, and that it is essentially "F.E.A.R., anime edition", at least based off what I've seen of it.
It had an interesting premise but I felt it kept beating me in the head with the "humans are the real monsters!" message.

While I'm not in favor of most dubs and I'll actively take a sub over a dub anyway, Panty and Stocking's dub is objectively better than it's sub.

I had this exact same scenario with Jormungand, the Japanese dub was okay but having to listen to all those English abbreviations was torture. The English dub for that one did it justice.

At times, I find Engrish moments in subbed anime to be quite amusing, to the point that I actually miss it in the dubs, believe it or not.

As for Elfen Lied, I admit that the entire reason I'm drawn to it is because of how many similarities it has to F.E.A.R. (my favorite FPS).

Honestly, I think it’s up there as probably running for best anime of 2020, so far. I’m still currently reading the manga, but the anime does get better in the second half. It’s just proof that the slice of life genre has no intention of slowing down anytime soon :)

I’d dare even say that without the fishing elements, it reminds me of Azumanga Daioh a little bit.

Any Sailor Moon fans around here?

Still on R. Kind of afraid to continue onto Super S because I've heard a lot of mixed things about that and the final season. What do you guys think?

I finished that series up recently and boy did I love it to bits, such a fun show. Makes me wish there was a second season in the works since I heard the manga goes into Sayaka's hunting more than the tease featured in the anime. Ending was great.

Really liked how it was a slice of life "let's explain a hobby in detail" and its put me on the hunt for more of that genre. Currently watching through Yama no Susume and it's been fun so far though each episode is pretty short.

I love Sailor Moon. Super S is isn't bad once you get past the creepy unicorn that has a thing for Chibi Usa. Stars is decent too, but it's considerably darker than the previous seasons and also has
a love triangle between Usagi, Mamoru and Seiya that adds nothing to the plot.

If you're liking R I say keep going.

Okay. But what about the villains? That's part of what I like about Sailor Moon (well... almost the main part that I like it).

They get kinda goofy in Super S since there's a circus theme but they're not awful, and the main villain is pretty standard. Stars has the most intimidating main villain in the series and everything that goes down makes it easy for you to hate them, which is good.

Overall the villains are fairly basic but have charm to them. R has the most fleshed out ones.

I haven't watched it since it was new (2009) but I remember Sora no Manimani being a decent astronomy club anime.

Some more recent anime along those lines are Amanchu! (free diving, as in diving without scuba apparatus), Tejina Senpai (Magical Sempai, stage magic), and Dagashi Kashi (candy, if that counts as a hobby).

They're starting the Cotton Drifting Arc (Watanagashi-hen), but changed a major plot point into an incident from Massacre Arc (Minagoroshi-hen), this is very weird

Originally, Mion bitching to Shion about how Keiichi doesn't see her as a woman was the catalyst for this fragment's troubles, triggering Shion's PTSD about Satoshi. I wonder what'll happen now? I wonder if Mion overly gushing about Keiichi to her will have the similar effect, just in a different light.

There are other changes too btw:

> Keiichi was the one to explain Shion to Rena - he kind of covered for Mion as opposed to Mion having to explain herself.

> "Shion" told Keiichi to give the containers back to Mion, prompting Shion being brought up around the whole club (could have been clutch if Satoko mentioned something about her Nee-Nee) & the interaction with Rena where he definitely remembered something. This is a case where reordering the events caused a pretty noteworthy change in what happens, so keep looking out for these.

Lots more could have changed that we don't know yet, tho. We don't know if "Mion" & "Shion" are actually Mion & Shion yet. It could already be too late, or they simply could have already been switching out. We can't really be sure yet whether Keiichi actually gave the doll to Mion when he gave the doll to "Mion".

My only want from this arc is ''Mion'' to not go insane for the sake of making a difference. From my own research, According to Rika in WN, Mion has never went insane because of the syndrome EVEN ONCE Which speaks volumes about her incredible mental strength. I would be really sad If It gets ruined to make this arc different from the original, but since Mion got the doll, that should be near impossible anyway so It is fine I guess. I'm saying should cause of Keiichi running his mouth & saying shit to Rena in front of Mion "unlike Mion, Shion's really cute & has a nice smile!" might bring about the exact same thing but like two days delayed. But Mion's reactions to it confuse me as well.

One more thing btw, if you're usually like me & skip OPs & EDs, The end credits only list Mion & not Shion, which backs that up my theory of Mion playing pretend the whole episode.

One thing I always found ironic in the original Higurashi was

Mion, the tattooed yakuza princess who always carries a (fake) gun, is the only major character who has never killed anyone. Satoko, the most childish, is the one who killed someone before the events of the story in every timeline, even if she doesn't remember it.

If anyone is watching Majo No tabitabi this season, what are your thoughts so far?
I have zero knowledge of the series going into the anime, but it's definitely not been what I was expecting.

I'm enjoying it so far, and the level of detail in the backgrounds especially makes the whole show look absolutely gorgeous.
These are all from just the first episode, and every single episode since has maintained this quality.

Haha, you reading the series in four days paid off.

Yeah, I'm thinking Shion might not actually exist in this world, and this could all be Mion, but the next episode will have to confirm this. If so, perhaps in this world, Shion was strangled at birth, but Mion has always felt like she had a sister and maybe to balance out how stressful being the next head of the family is (because she was never meant to be the Mion we know, the younger twin was), she made an alter ego. Would be a neat twist.

But yeah, although it's been stated that Mion has never killed, I'm honestly open to the idea of that being a once-in-a-lifetime possibility. Wouldn't be the best thing in the context of the world's rules unless something really big has changed, but if not even Rika knows why she's back in the loop, perhaps Mion going mad could surprise even her like how the ending of the previous arc went differently than expected. So even though Keiichi gave the doll to Mion to theoretically set off Massacre, it's still playing out like the Cotton-Drifting arc. Something's preventing it from going down Massacre, and I don't think Rina's been killed or else we would've seen it.
