Prospering Grounds lolcow TheAnimeMan receives “top secret info” from MyAnimeList on how anime is more global and popular than ever.
Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Steins; Gate, Gintama and Attack on Titan are more popular than your favorite anime.
Last I check Ryukishi07's didn't release the second chapter of his new VN despite the 2020 release date.View attachment 1808378
You and me both, Rena, what the fuck.
Next arc looks to be more new, "Nekodamashi", "Deceived by Cats". There was a special side arc called "Cat-Killing" which was just Mion telling a story of how years ago a kid after a game of Kick the Can vanished at an abandoned site in an abandoned village by falling into a hole, which is believed to be the entrance to Hell because of the smell of sulfur. He was found by his father that night, but they both had a freak accident on the way back home. It's implied that site was where the Inuyama were developing the gas they would then use on Hinamizawa.
I'm still not a fan of what's been going on, to be honest. Unless we're getting a new season given the pattern mirroring the 2006 anime, I don't think there's any way we'll be getting answers in eleven episodes, especially if they're all going to be "-damashi" arcs. It might just be me, but I kinda wonder if this is just a way to appease the "I need me my murders" crowd of Higurashi fans, the violence really just comes out of nowhere and seems to not serve the plot. And yeah, I'll admit I was just waiting for shit to hit the fan and bring on the blood, but that's mainly because this has been pretty boring and the pacing is not that great.
I wonder if Ryukishi07 even knows what he's doing anymore, something's just not right and I don't think it's in a good way.
I'm sure I've said this in this thread beforehand, but Gou would have been a better series if it leaned into the sequel part more and didn't teeter between being a sequel and being a new introduction for new fans. I can only imagine how confusing it is for people who know nothing about Higurashi if most veterans don't know what the fuck is going on right now. I'm really only watching since I'm on an R07 binge, going through Ciconia (which I'm enjoying) and the mistake which is the Umineko anime. Also, I have nothing better to do with my Thursdays.View attachment 1808378

Something else that is odd is that during Satoko's shower scene (stay with me here), is that there are no signs of physical abuse which could imply that Teppei had died before doing any real damage to Satoko. The scene where Keiichi beats the shit out of Teppei and blood splatters everywhere was probably all in Keiichi's head. I believe in Onidamashi, when Rena and Keiichi were bashing each other with a clock and a knife, there's a weird filter that covers the screen during this time. This could be an indicator that, at this point, Keiichi is an unreliable narrator and this isn't happening really. I think that when Keiichi pulled the light switch, Satoko had a trap set up and it knocked him out somehow. This episode really makes me think that Satoko definitely did something to Teppei and maybe was an accomplice in his potential murder.
Yeah, it's possible Keiichi fell into a trap of Satoko's unless she came under Level 5 and was the one who attacked him. But like, I don't understand how Keiichi could reach level 5 in this arc so fast that he hallucinated Teppei. In Onidamashi-hen, of course he'd already be going insane, but he wasn't supposed to in this arc. Shion was more likely to had she not been stopped going after Teppei.
Think I mentioned it before at the start of this arc, but I will actually be really upset if it turns out Teppei is a victim to Hinamizawa Syndrome because then it suggests he acts the way he does because of it instead of the fact he's a shitty person. I kinda feel unclean questioning Teppei's whereabouts in this arc because he deserves getting his head bashed in anyway, but why use him as a red herring?
Also hold up: does Ooishi carry a pistol with him at all times? I know he's a police officer, and the only time he had one was in "Time-Wasting", but he still refused to pull the trigger since in Japan, police officers, despite being trained with guns, will not pull the trigger if they can help it due to the legalities surrounding it.
And does Akasaka even exist in Gou?
I don't think Keiichi went L5 in this arc but I just think he just hallucinated that last part. My Higurashi knoweldge is a bit rusty and incomplete since I never read the VN for it, but didn't Keiichi hallucinate Shion killing him in Watanagashi/Meakashi? I was assuming it was happening like that this time around.Yeah, it's possible Keiichi fell into a trap of Satoko's unless she came under Level 5 and was the one who attacked him. The only thing that rubs me the wrong way about Teppei is that we did not see him ONCE this episode. We only get to hear passing remarks about him from Satoko, who could be an unreliable source in Gou or at least in Tataridamashi. I think Teppei was still a shitty person, but Satoko killed him this time around instead of Keiichi.Think I mentioned it before at the start of this arc, but I will actually be really upset if it turns out Teppei is a victim to Hinamizawa Syndrome because then it suggests he acts the way he does because of it instead of the fact he's a shitty person. I don't think it's ever been explicitly shown in GouAlso hold up: does Ooishi carry a pistol with him at all times? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I see no reason why he wouldn't exist and I don't think Akasaka was introduced into the original Higurashi until Himatsubushi-hen anyway. And does Akasaka even exist in Gou?
I've just lost interest at this point and its so boring and scatterbrained, once its finished maybe it will make sense. But the famous scene where Keiichi murders them with a baseball bat is a complete misconception. Its a delusion when in reality they were trying to help them and he was basically a paranoid schizophrenic at that point so he beat them to death.I'm sure I've said this in this thread beforehand, but Gou would have been a better series if it leaned into the sequel part more and didn't teeter between being a sequel and being a new introduction for new fans. With that being said, I did enjoy the last couple of minutes of Tatari/Minadamashi-hen. I could be misremembering, but this is the first time that we get to see past the Summer of 1983, which implies that the Great Hinamizawa disaster does not happen and that Takano may not necessarily be the culprit this time around, I also find it odd that Keiichi is constantly being protected in some sort of way in each loop as well as the fact that he is always told who died. In this case, we didn't even see the body this time around. Something else that is odd is that during Satoko's shower scene (stay with me here), is that there are no signs of physical abuse which could imply that Teppei had died before doing any real damage to Satoko. I have no fuckin clue what they're gonna do for Nekodamashi-hen lmao. I think theyre gonna play this one straight and just do a remake of the studio DEEN version

I wonder if it's the same one used in "Watadamashi".I don't think it's ever been explicitly shown in Gou
It certainly wouldn't suprise me.I wonder if it's the same one used in "Watadamashi".
Yeah I can totally see where you're coming from now. I didn't remember if he did get HS during Watanagashi-hen or not my bad.Keiichi succumbed to Hinamizawa Syndrome in the second arc and is implied to as well in "Eye-Opening" since it's a similar world. He was already showing signs when he thought telling Rika he had gone into the storehouse was what killed her, he just wasn't as severe as Shion (but he was led to think Mion may have been involved in the disappearances thanks to her). But after "Mion" stabbed him and Ooishi told him about what they found during the investigation, specifically that Mion was found dead in the well, he went mad from the revelation.
That's why I think it doesn't make sense Keiichi has hit the hallucinatory stage of Hinamizawa Syndrome in this arc of Gou. There was nothing calling for it since he was so busy trying to rescue Satoko from her uncle, but he was above the influence in that he didn't agree to killing Teppei thanks to his dream.
Totally understandable. Because Gou is so insistent on making this something for newcomers to also enjoy, the episodes until the end of the arc itself have nothing interesting going on. I can only imagine that it'll be a better experience when you aren't getting cockblocked for 4-5 weeks just to get something relatively interesting. I've said this before as well but the answer arcs better fucking deliver.I've just lost interest at this point and its so boring and scatterbrained
I still think it's a fucking terrible idea to encourage newcomers to watch Gou as it is heavily reliant on intimate knowledge of the series and lore, and everyone who told newcomers "No no, it's okay, you don't need to see the original first" need to be kicked in the teeth, Ryukishi included if he was also encouraging new watchers to see the whole season. The second episode should've been it, but the beginning of this arc should've seriously been the final wake-up call to everyone that they actually need to go back to the very beginning, whether it was to watch the original anime, or make the attempt to read the manga or the VN.Totally understandable. Because Gou is so insistent on making this something for newcomers to also enjoy, the episodes until the end of the arc itself have nothing interesting going on.
I found that both Chainsawman and Jujutsu Kaisen are taking a little too much advantage of being week by week that, when read/watched in one go, it loses some of the impact and forethought that was put into it.Just finished Chainsawman (well... the first part) and my thoughts on it are a bit mixed. Weirdly enough, I think this is a series that I would've enjoyed more had I been keeping up week-by-week. Due to the super-quick pace (seriously, finished the whole thing in maybe 4-5 hours), a lot of the intended tension and emotional weight near the end just didn't really have the desired impact on me because the story moves on fairly quickly without giving enough breathing room for them to really hit home. This is also present as early as the Eternity Devil fight, where I was surprised to read that they'd apparently been trapped inside the hotel for 3 days. Same goes for when life calms down a bit for Denji and Power after Aki's death - I feel like there really needed to be a couple chapters of downtime before the start of the next arc.
While I appreciate no-bullshit action and fights that don't drag on forever and a plot that doesn't waste time meandering in pointless directions, I think in this case it would've done well to juxtapose that with some quieter extended downtime in between arcs to let the characters have some well-deserved out-of-battle interactions. There's some scenes like Denji and Power tagging along with Aki as he on his grave-visiting trip that I wish were more than just half a chapter - especially with Aki, because I think he's an interesting character with interesting motivations in concept, but in execution he doesn't really get enough time to get me properly emotionally invested in his story.
Overall, I think this is a series that may work a lot better as an anime, which should fix some of the pacing issues and make some of the fight scenes a bit more coherent. I dunno how they plan on structuring the anime - my hope is a 3-cour series for Part 1, because I don't think 24 episodes is possible without a lot of compression. But either way, this'll definitely be a series I catch as it airs.
I really don't get why a chainsaw demon is capable of deleting concepts from existence. From the beginning, it was already obvious that the Chainsaw Demon clearly had some greater significance beyond just being some dude with chainsaws growing from his limbs, but I was expecting it to be revealed that he actually embodies some greater concept, of which chainsaws are just its most basic manifestation. Especially because most of the other demons' fear of him seems to mostly come from the whole "being deleted from reality" part rather than the "chainsaw" part, you'd think his demonic aspect would be more in line with the reason he's feared. Because of this, I think it would've been more thematically appropriate (though maybe way less cool) for him to be an "Eraser Demon" or something similar. Granted, we're still in Part 1 and it's very possible that more about the Chainsaw Demon's true nature will be expounded on later.
