Anime is for degenerates deal with it.
REEEE harder my dude.

A lot of strange stuff in anime/manga can be chalked up to Japan's culture but the siscon and lolicon stuff will always be trash.
I think less of any work that has those elements regardless of how competent the story and art are otherwise.

Idk bro I'd love a parody series about some loser's 12 year old sister secretly being a 6 trillion year old demon lord

I recently tried reading Blame and wow, was it not the right manga for me. Probably wasn't helped by the fact that the scans I was reading weren't the best quality. Around the time Toha Heavy Industries shows up, I had completely lost track of what was happening.
I actually read the prequel & 1st chapter of Blame! too. But I can't get past the 1st chapter due to all other chapters since having shit scanlation job.

Maybe I gotta search tor a torrent some day. I already have Higurashi: Dice Killing Arc manga on my phone.

I’m always reminded of the line from Genshiken that no one with a little sister fetish actually has a little sister.
They also make the argument that that having a "clumsy" character only works in anime, real life you'd fucking yell at her really fast (which is almost assuredly true).

Anyways started Girls Und Panzer, I wasn't sure about it when it was first showed, but now I'm just embracing the autism.

Six different anime movies have been submitted for Oscar consideration: Earwig and the Witch, Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train, Lupin III THE FIRST, ON-GAKU: Our Sound, Ride Your Wave, and A Whisker Away.

In total, 27 films are vying to get nominated for the Animated Feature Film category. Among the non-anime submissions are The Croods: A New Age,Scoob!, Soul, and The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run.

The Academy will narrow the list down to no more than five, and those films will be the official movies running for the award. The nominees will be revealed March 15, and the Oscars are scheduled to take place April 25. The ceremony is occurring a little later this year because of COVID.

Man, I still remember the shitstorm on /a/ when that ending dropped. Some of my favorite times on /a/ is when a popular "which girl wins?" series ends and the nuclear fallout between those that picked the winning girl smugly rubbing it in and the ones that backed the losing girls seething. Don't even need to be invested in the series to enjoy the show and I remember Oreimo causing quite a spectacle in that regard.
That ending was legendary. I recall one of the scanners for the LN, who had been there from the beginning and owned at least $1,000 in merch trashed everything he owned related to the series after finishing his last scan just because they weren’t blood related.

GuP is cute. It’s complete mindless silliness, but it’s got a lot of cute girls doing cute things.

also, one of the best opening songs ever. Back when I used to play World of Tanks with a friend, I’d keep it on repeat and sing along until he started screaming,

Welcome aboard the Garupan train.
Don't worry, you have time to catch up since the next 4 movies that finish off the series will take 5 years to come out.

the fascinating thing is that it's played completely straight, without much of the CGDCT sillyness you usually see (those are reserved for the OVAs, like the mandatory beach/pool episode). I think that's one of the reasons it works so well and is popular even outside the usual circles. sadly they didn't keep it up for the finale and some chars feel borderline flanderized. that's why you can pretty much skip it for now, as @Wingnut mentioned it will still take years till it's finished anyway to milk more shekels.

If it's not some veiled fetish shit, fine. Having an edgy brat sister who's a secret demon lord is a-okay until it veers into Eromanga Sensei territory. Sibling rivialry is fine, sibling romance is not.

except step-sisters and adoption are a thing. on top of that eromanga sensei is relatively subdued since he doesn't creep on her, the story is mainly coaxing her out of being a hikki and him dismissing any advances with "being in love with someone else", without ever saying who that is. there's far more "offensive" stuff out there, and a good writer can even use it to it's advantage for a nice story like hensuki where the twist completely blindsides you in the last minute, and I don't mean their relationship.

i mean it's been a pretty slow year, but im betting on soul taking the oscar anyway
i bet a crispy 20 dollar on it
Probably the safest bet in history is "a Disney/Pixar film will win best animated feature." Since the category was first introduced in 2001, Disney has won it 13 out of 19 times. I remember reading an article a while back about how little the Academy members actually care about the category because they consider animation beneath them, with one literally admitting to waiting in the lobby whenever she took her son to see an animated film. I'd wager less than half of the Academy even bothers watching any of the nominees, and of those that do, the majority probably only watch whatever Disney shat out that year.

Eh, not like it matters what a bunch of pedo sex perverts think anyway.

I legit believe it's Disney twisting the Academy's arm for not giving them "Best Picture" in 1992 for Beauty and the Beast and then having Shrek win the first "Best Animated Picture" when the Academy was finally forced to activate it. Which is funny since the following year they would then throw Lilo & Stitch under the bus in favor of letting Miyazaki win his first and only Oscar for Spirited Away.

But yeah, the volunteers are all lazy jackasses who don't bother watching the movies they receive months in advance and just hand it to Disney based on name recognition.

The consensus dark horse anti-Disney Oscar pick this year among animation fans in general this year isn't anime, it seems to be Wolfwalkers from Tomm Moore (Secret of Kells and Song of the Sea) and Ross Stewart.

I haven't seen any submitted animated film due to the theatres being closed most of the year and not being able to afford streaming, but I'm certainly more intrigued by the trailer for Wolfwalkers compared to the trailers for Soul (which looks alright but middling by Pixar standards).

So, I admit I’m an isekai fag. Whatever, I feel like those series were all designed for guys in their 30’s and 40’s who grew up reading action manga and now like imagining they’re still young and had less responsibilities. So, you know, me and a lot of other people. No shame.

Anyway, I think The Magic in the Other World is Too Far Behind is probably among the best of them, to the point that I even bought all the light novels. For those who haven’t read it, it’s your usual kids pulled into another world, 1 of them is the hero fare. Except that the person who was accidentally brought along turns out to be a magician, similar to a character out of X or the Fate series. And he’s got just the right amount of snark without being too edgy to keep me interested.

But what it really made me interested in is the opposite. Something more like Mx0 (which is in my top 5 manga) where a stage magician gets pulled into a world where people can use magic, and he can‘t and he has to get by with his acrobatics, ability to use things like cold reading, and other basic magician skills.

I really like the fact that it's played straight, I feel like I wouldn't like the series nearly as much if the show was more goofy in how they used the tanks. The funniest thing is the orginal series is just a standard sports anime tournament arc, but the sport happens to be war games in WWII tanks.

sadly they didn't keep it up for the finale and some chars feel borderline flanderized.
I can see what you're saying with the characters being caricatures of an archetype, but seeing as how the cast of the show is easily over 50, with at least 30 characters returning regularly, they had to run out of character ideas to an extent. I'm more impressed that they manage to give even the minor characters some personality and that they aren't only on screen for 3 seconds twice in the entire series.

Mizushima is fantastic at directing his cast, which is why I was quite disappointed in the wet blanket that was The Magnificent Kotobuki anime. I saw he was directing it and was really interested since he has been doing so well with Garupan. The pacing was horrible, but I don't know if I could've gotten past the ass CGI characters even with a good story.

while BC started off feeling like generic shonen but with enough to set it apart and keep it fun.
So I am almost caught up now, my GF has started watching with me as well. We both agree that while the show has problems it is really good. I kind of take back a lot of my criticism for it, all the characters grew on me more and all the funny moments really hit.

My one major problem STILL is the talking during combat and overall length of the fights. It is not something I am really used to in anime since I generally just watch mecha stuff. The amount of flashbacks is a bit obnoxious but I understand that it is supposed to be a weekly show and not binge watched.

Really enjoying it though and it has quickly surpassed many other shows. The growth all the side characters have is really good, they are definitely all more capable then they were at the start. I hope Yami gets more time to shine its fun watching him walk in and end a fight.

I called it, but holy shit that ending was clumsy.

There were more cases of "God please don't watch this series if you haven't read the VN/watched the DEEN adaptation" when they show the final part of Minagoroshi-hen at the start of the episode as well as Satoshi under the clinic but at this point, I don't think anybody who hasn't watched or read Higurashi is holding on to this anymore. It would be interesting to see how a complete newfag would take these episodes as a whole but that's besides the point.

I would've just been cool with seeing the same red eyes that Rika had on Satoko, but her pulling out the gun was really fuckin' stupid and stripped away any tension from that scene. It did, however, confirm that Satoko has been using this gun to carry out the murders from the prior arcs, the fact that it was originally Okonogi's weapon, and partially confirm that she has been forcefully making people go L5 with the H173 syringes from Takano's suitcase.

Another thing that is up in the air is the fact that Takano may also be looping as well due to the sudden change of heart and conviction as well as the fact that she says "I don't think you'd understand, even if I told you" when Rika asked why she had such a change of heart.

They do have a lot of fuckin explaining to do as to why she's the culprit now and why she's forcing Rika to stay in Hinamizawa. I suspect that something horrible happened in the 5 years after the end of the original series and the beginning of Gou, probably something revolving around Satoshi or her crippling loneliness since everyone left after 5 years, but it still undermines Satoko's character as a whole and turns her into an obsessed yandere. I won't accept 'lol witches' either! It's a lazy copout.

On another topic, the QUALITY for the Okonogi scene was so comically bad, it took me out of the scene. I don't think they managed to get his face right for one shot in that scene. It was dreadful. I don't know what else Passione has done recently or their track record when it comes to animation quality, but the quality has just been ok to ass for most of the series.

Next week's episode also begins a new arc: Satokowashi-hen or Village-Destroying Chapter. Now I swear to god if they go the route of Danganronpa V3's ending, this anime is getting a fucking 0. Nobody wanted a remake of Higurashi or a quasi-sequel series in disguise. I just want Ciconia Phase 2 already goddammit.

They also shared this artpiece for the new ending theme and if it's supposed to be her face during the scene where Akasaka burns down Rika's house, then lol they didn't do a very good job imo.
