I mean there is a thread all about Visual Novels. Why not just move the discussion there?

As for this response, I disagree with your reasoning behind shakanontrice. I don't think it was about "muh transrights" and more a symbol of the real truth behind Yasu/Lion's gender being inside the catbox. It was never directly confirmed if Yasu/Lion was a boy or a girl in the VN either and it was clear that it was the intended answer from Episode 1 of the VN and with all of the themes that the story lays down on you.

I have read Ciconia as well, put my thoughts in the VNs thread. It is interesting so far, but the first phase is a bunch of setup and worldbuilding, which is necesscary since it's introducing the readers to a new world entirely. I think R07 did say it would be a mystery, but the general mystery would take a backseat to the sci-fi elements. There are some crazy theories already out there, but all most people can do is wait for R07 to stop milking Higurashi and make Phase 2 already.

I've started reading some of Higanbana a little bit ago and it's much more grounded and downer-y than the rest of WTC. I also like some of the music of RGD and I'm looking forward to reading it just for that aspect.

As for something non R07 related, I've been reading Dungeon Meshi and holy shit this is the best cooking manga I have read. It's a great comedy manga with a lot of worldbuilding that actually leads to something worthwhile. I highly recommend it.
The games are not only Visual Novels with the manga and anime, and it will pretty derail Visual Novels (though it is pretty dead). I'll work tomorrow on a somewhat comprehensive thread.

That reminds me, Ciconia also had weird gender shit. Though the character doing it is basically in the 1% while the regular person lives in terrible conditions.

And Dungeon Meshi is a joy. It has better world building than 99.9% of the fantasy stories.

The whole thing there is that
Yasu was raised as a girl because his junk was torn off when Natsuhi pushed him and the servant off the cliff. Nothing to do with #TransRights. That said, John Money would've been proud.
Just more proof of what awesome people the Ushiromiyas were.
Granted, some of the whole Yasu thing is kinda iffy. Like, how did nobody figure out Shannon and Kannon are one person?

Oh, it's not a trans thing, I never thought it was, even if the Tumblrinas want it to be. The reasons why a lot of us mystery types hated shkannon was because A. we were told, after everything, that it was obvious by Ep. 4, when it wasn't. The major view was always Shannon as Beato with Kannon as accomplice, or the other way around, with a few crazy Rosatrice supports. Shkannon was always the view of tumblrinas who wanted to canonize their Battler/Kannon fics/pics. B. It's needlessly complicated, I'm sure there moments when Shannon and Kannon are together, but none of those count because later "rules." C. Seriously, how does Yasu keep the quick change shit going on and no on notices? And Yasu, why hide him? If you're worried about Kinzo putting him in a dress, making him a girl, and declaring him Beato 3.0, why the fuck would you raise him as a girl, put him in a dress, and then put him in semi-regular contact with the old nutcase? Is Genji retarded? That's ME3 ending levels of dumb logic.

Why I think they didn't open the cat box at the end and just played it off as "Oh, no one knows the truth, it doesn't matter," is that unlike Higurashi, they never actually had a base "what happened" planned. Or stuff changed and it couldn't be used any more. It's why Umineko is a lot of things, but it's not a proper mystery. I don't think Ryukishi could do it without BT around to help.

The protag of Mushoku Tensei starts as, and often continues to be, a venal, self-centered perv, but he's still the protag and I've heard he gets somewhat better over time. Trash people on twitter want him cast into outer darkness to suffer eternally because he's not a good person, the beam in their own eye being that they too are not good people.
I think that really depends on your definition of good person, but he seems to be learning to be a better person. It's all very human, as are the people around him, and that's what's great about it. I think it's more that the main character starts as a shitty loser like them and when given a do over decides to work at being better. He doesn't play the victim like they do. Who cares if he's a bit of perv.

I do love the anime looking relatively accurate to medieval Europe, it's a nice bit of extra effort.

I haven't read the original, but from what I've heard the anime tones things down a lot and he originally did things that border on surprise sex later in the story.

I haven't read ahead in the manga, but I know his dad pulled the "Surprise sex you didn't know you wanted" on Lilia, but given later events maybe he wasn't that wrong. I'll judge it when we get there, but it's been a fun ride thus far. I don't really trust the people who seem to hate this to accurately report things.

It took me a while, but I remembered how I interpreted Umineko's ending (at least I think it how I did, it's been a decade since I played the last game).
Basically the whole setup is a black box that you cannot know what happened in. Only that multiple people got in and only one got out. Trying to figure out who did it is like trying to find out who is the murderer in the meta of the boardgame Clue, and like Clue, every episode is just a different game where the murders, murder weapon and murderer are redrawn. It's still a pretty sucky conclusion to a mystery game though.

The idea that Battler and his parents did it is just a likely possiblity that is entirely based on their shady background rather than actual facts and is based on basic bitch logic from things we knew already in the first episode. Like everything else it is an impossible to prove possibility.

Angie's plot in the last game is basically her letting go from the past. Every person involved is dead and she is wasting her life trying to solve an impossible mystery. She'll have a final good memory from the final party and that will be the end of that.

I took Shannon and Kannon being the same person as an open secret Battler was the only person in the dark about (unless I'm forgetting and Battler had meaningful interactions with both servants in the first episode, which means that they do go with a weird personality change all the time).

I'm gonna say it, Shimoneta is probably the best anime to watch with a group of mates. I rewatched it again with friends and it still holds up. Even the dub is pretty good for what it is.

EDIT: Also, the OST fucks.

I'm gonna recommend that you avoid the manga until you've read the Light Novel/ Webnovel. the anime's fine to keep watching, it's a much more faithful adaptation than the manga.
There's a full translation of the Webnovel that's completely uncensored on Nyaa.si covering everything except the redundancy chapters, jobless oblige and one more story that's extremely spoiler heavy.
I'll link the WN torrent here for posterity in case anyone's interested.

The discussion on Lain reminded me that I had downloaded it awhile ago and never got around to watching it, decided to marathon through it since it's not super long. I can't even pretend to really understand everything that was happening, but I really enjoyed it overall for the atmosphere and Lain's character, can see why she's so popular on /a/. All the discussion it put forward about the "wired" really intrigues me, especially given the series released back in the 90s, reminds me of all those great "what if" sci-fi series dealing with the rise of AI or similar that came out in the 80s which remain relevant today. Definitely a series I'll revisit in the future which I'm finding to be a common trend among the works by ABe that I've watched, makes me want to check out Haibane Renmei since it's another work of his.

Since I have the chance, I'll also recommend this remix of the opening by the ever amazing nakinyko which features a very cute Lain dancing to the beat. It's what initially got me to download the series interestingly.

Just want to point out that while I was thinking about watching and reading Inuyashiki for the first time, Russia is apparently banning it in their home country, along with other well-known ones.

Not sure who got to Putin, but it says a whole lot that that one anime that I was preparing to read the manga for and watch next month is getting banned over there.

I think it’s a sign.
The judges were true men of culture, though, they didn't ban Interspecies Reviewers.

I really like how realistic certain anime/mnaga such as Kimi no Todoke are. It might not be very adventurous or like slice of life genres, but it's absolutely wholesome in its presentation. Sadako Kuronuma is such an interesting and relatable main character.

I think that the revelation in Spider Isekai that some of the classmates are already dead should have had more impact and explanation (though I have a feeling that it will be a spoilers for future events). Though I still don't get if the characters have recent memories or if, in their perspective, they last saw their classmates 15 years ago so it's hard to get emotional.

Anyways, with the heroine literally talking to herself, I really hope it will become the anime equivalent of Freeman's Mind.

Ex-Arm is proof that anyone involved with Crunchyroll needs to be shot in the streets, no questions asked.
Agreed, I read the manga & my goodness, it's objectively better drawn than the anime, even if it's because the anime isn't drawn at all.

Like, it's on Mangadex & had a wonky translation release until recently, but even just by art, it can stand it's own. Worst part is, there are multiple examples that prove that 3D/CG anime itself isn't an issue as much as it's the incompetency behind it.

New Higurashi Gou episode shows that apparently Ciconia is also part of the universe, R07 made his own MCU, the 07CU. By the way, I don't know shit about either Umineko or Ciconia yet. I just know "Vier", "Mitsuyo", "Specimen", & "Ciconia" were in sentences together at times.

Edit: I just did my research & something came out

This is just some Nippon fuckery I think may be used here:
Vier: Some character in Ciconia
Mitsuyo: 34 (3: miitsu, 4: yō)
LD3105: Lamb Delta Satako

Lamb Delta: (Is that how it's spelt? I ain't googling that, it's on my read list, I could ruin it more than the show does, without any context) if it's an Umineko reference, she's the most talked one I've seen in every comment on it, maybe it's some codeword.

3105: goroawase. This one is a wordplay on numbers.

I dropped that anime long ago, did it get good by any measure?
