Anna Faris has announced she is leaving Mom before Season 8 of the CBS sitcom starts filming.

"The past seven years on Mom have been some of the most fulfilling and rewarding of my career," Faris said in a statement Friday.

"I'm so thankful to Chuck, the writers, and my amazing castmates for creating a truly wonderful work experience. While my journey as Christy has come to an end, allowing me to pursue new opportunities, I'll be watching next season and rooting for my TV family."

The new season is scheduled to go into production on Sept. 14 in Los Angeles.

The fact that they're willing to continue the show without her tells me Lorre and company learned nothing from Two and a Half Men.

Her poor mother. I can't imagine the pain she feels over her own daughter leaving her behind. She has to live what little she has left of her life alone. No one deserves such a cruel fate.

That's a shame. I don't think the show can survive without her unless they make Jaime Pressly the main character.

Mom originally started out as an Anna Faris vehicle, but its built up an incredible ensemble cast over the years (Pressly and William Fichtner are standouts). The shift kept the show somewhat fresh in seasons 4 & 5, but at this point Mom feels more like a Golden Girls reboot than the sharp comedy about an alcoholic single mother that it started as. Most episodes nowadays revolve around the five old ladies in the maincast getting into hijinks.

Anna Faris's family, work and addiction issues are basically nonexistent. Her kids are out of the picture (even though she presumably still has custody rights over her teenage son, she hasn't seen him in 3 years), and she went from a high school drop out in season 1 to going to law school and being promised a job at a prestigious law firm because her boss was so impressed with her mastery of the law this past season.

Anna's character used to struggle and fail often in the first three seasons. Nowadays she's basically reached Mary Sue levels of good fortune and competence.

I get why people find Allison Janey funny, but Allison Janey is only funny because Anna Faris is around to bug her eyes out when Allison says something outrageous. Without Faris around, people will get sick of Janey very, very quickly.

That's a horrible picture of her... she looks like she's about to burst into tears at any moment.

How would you feel if you bailed out on Star Lord just as he got jacked and became a household name while you wither away into irrelevance?
At some point she might have had a chance with Ryan Reynolds, long before he also became a household name as well.

I think Anna Faris might be a walking lucky charm, everyone else thrives while she's standing still.

Also, the movie "Waiting..." is hilarious, highly recommended.

She was really funny in Observe and Report. And The Hot Chick, even though that movie blows.

...

That's all I got.

I watched The Hot Chick not long ago and I found it to be way better than I was expecting.

Granted I had never seen it before and mainly enjoyed the 2002ness of it, but I was expecting it to be totally awful and while it wasn't great, it really wasn't that bad.
