I've spent more time than I care to share looking for his work dox. Maybe I"ll give it another go. O'Brien is such a common surname unfortunately.

Holy fuck just now I was searching and ANNA'S UNCLE DIED THIS MONTH AND SHE HAS SAID NOTHING ABOUT IT.

obit.

Still digging, this is her older brother's wedding announcement, another BYU grad.

I’d take an educated guess that Glitters Dad is or was associated with Lincoln Electric and that’s why Tom Jr works there. The company details match up with the bits and pieces we know about her Dad - esp the trips to China for business

Wasn't it something to do with those clear plastic teeth aligners? I seem to recall something like that from way back in the FA thread and thought it was Anna's dad. Would provide fabulous wealth if he owned the lion's share of that business.

that would make a lot of sense. Here's a little more on her dad:

That was another Tom O’Brien. We thought for a few moments it might be her Dad but evidence pointed to the contrary. The super super common given name and surname combo made it difficult to pin down.

Yeah, rich religious families almost always have sons that follow in dad’s very comfy footsteps unless they are a black sheep. (The whole going to BYU, doing a two year mission and getting hitched with recommendations at the Mormon Temple - to a very good Mormon bride - point to a dutiful son).

I’d say Tom Sr is either a bigwig or owner at Lincoln Electric. You don’t just get a super cushy international sales manager position at company HQ straight out of BYU without a big heap of nepotism.

I’m sure Glitter running around in a Bikini to get more views on Chinese data mining sites is humiliating to an upstanding Mormon family. Has Glitter ever talked about being raised Mormon? They can come down pretty hard on her kind of immodest behavior - showing lots of horrifying skin, booze, caffeine, cursing..,,all big no no’s for mormons esp for the women.

I wonder if she might get excommunicated for it? Mormons take being adult members in good standing pretty damn seriously and there’s no way Glitter is. It’s not like being a lapsed Baptist or lapsed Catholic behaving badly, mormons have real hardcore rules or you get the boot.

I know the obvious answer is attention and fame, how is it possible for someone who wrote that blog post in 2013 transform into alarmingly unhealthy and hypocritical person they are today? Is the 20 seconds in the starlight really worth it at the end of the day? It's really sad to see her post that blog post and delete it out of shame when I think it's the kind of lesson we should we teaching young, obese men and women in the country. That it's alright to be fat and not hate yourself, but it's not a healthy lifestyle choice and it should be addressed.

This quote from that blog post is painfully ironic btw.

"It has been said, that women who are insecure often rely on hyper-sexuality to compensation for inner feelings of self-doubt. HMMM."

HMMM indeed.

Thank you for trying. Dad being a Lincoln Electric bigwig/owner would make sense.

The most baffling thing about Anna to me is her success. From what I remember she gets hundreds of thousands of views on her Tik Toks. I cannot wrap my head around it, how the fuck does she do it? Is it the modern equivalent of going to a freak show?

Great job everybody on the OP! In her honor, I shall :drink:

Yeah, and if you don’t have a temple recommend, which involves among other things tithing a certain amount of money to the church each year, you can’t go to a temple wedding. If you go on r/exmormon there’s a ton of posts about feeling excluded and having to babysit during the wedding (kids can’t go either because you don’t get a recommend until you’re an adult). It really isn’t like Catholicism where only the bitchiest of priests will deny your skankily dressed self communion and anyone including random old ladies who live nearby can go to a wedding mass. I’m also surprised she hasn’t talked about it, considering ‘female Internet personality who likes flaunting her body talking about her repressive religious upbringing’ is a genre unto itself and is very popular.

She and her Daddy probably have an unspoken truce: don't bash the Church in public, and I won't cut you off.

The LDS isn't like Scientology or the Jehovah's Witnesses, which have formalized procedures for shunning. Scientology declares you PTS, then finally SP, and everyone is forced to disconnect from you, lest they also get declared; same thing goes for JWs with shunning and disfellowshipping. You get in legit, serious trouble from the institution if you maintain contact. You get disowned. You lose absolutely everything and everyone, and once you're out, you're out. Getting back into the Kingdom Hall's good graces is nigh impossible. In Scientology, it's 100% impossible, barring a multimillion dollar bribe-donation.

Meanwhile, you can be a drunken, half-naked hamplanet "Mormon" in good-ish standing, guaranteed an extra-wide seat at every family gathering. Yeah, you won't get a temple recommend, and you won't be marrying Dr. Dan Smith, DDS from Provo, but you won't get disowned, UNLESS your family/ward is extremely strict. This is why the LDS is kinda sorta "mainstream," as opposed to its cultier counterparts. For most, it's about as restrictive as, say, being raised evangelical Christian or devout Muslim. Run of the mill evangelicals also disown gay kids.

Talking shit about Joey Smith on the Internet, though... yikes. Like I said, modern-day Mormons are willing to overlook A LOT. Drinking coffee on the sly, booze, not going on a mission are all fine, but don't you DARE question the fucking tablets.

Mormons forbid coffee? Well they can fuck all the way off. Not that any of them are banging on my door to give me pamphlets or anything.
Any sign of Anna having the coronabeetus, btw? Haven't seen the daily Anna. There better be donuts.

Stuff that's supposed to be 'forbidden': Caffeine, alcohol, drugs, and R-rated movies (that one got added in the 90s, dunno if it's still a banned thing). And yeah, the elders update the list on occasion.

Pretty much all Mormons I've met ignore those though, but I don't tend to talk with the more strict ones anyways. One of them needed help from their church one time and had to scour their place for sodas and DVDs to make sure all the stuff was gone before the people from the church got there.

But yeah, it's probably fear of getting cut off from daddybucks.

Mormons forbid all forms of caffeine. I personally do not know the exact reason why but it's something that they are very particular about. Places with a lot of mormons carry non-caffeinated sodas frequently just to be able to offer it to a visitor.

Okay, this is actually a quite interesting part of the religion (I know quite a few mormons - Jack mormons and otherwise). Caffeine was highly, highly forbidden due to it being seen as a mind-altering drug (which, to be fair, it is mind-altering and it is a drug, just not a dangerous one in reasonable doses and barring heart issues). That changed some time in the 80s when the mormon church bought up shares of PepsiCo. Merican Jesus and Joseph Smith suddenly decided it was cool to drink soda/caffeine immediately after it was in their financial interest to have their people do so. The mormons don't advertise this, but you can find the information out there if you look for it.
