Anna Slatz gets arrested reporting the riots, Ezra Levant crowdfunds her bail and Sophia Narwitz calls him out for grifting -

  • Intermittent Denial of Service attack is causing downtime. Looks like a kiddie 5 min rental. Looking into some solutions.

Posted here because both Anna Slatz (@yesthatanna) and Sophia Narwitz (@sophnar0747) have accounts here

Anna Slatz was arrested reporting on the riots for Rebel Media. Because Ezra Levant is a grifting scumbag he turned this into another excuse for crowdfunding, something Lauren Southern apparently fell out with him over.

This is the first time I've made a thread here, so it will probably suck.

Ezra does this all the time. Sad, really but... shekels smell nice when you rub them together in your hands, I hear.

It's highly likely he did it to Lauren Southern, Faith Goldy, and/or Gavin McInnes. Unfortunately, all of them have signed NDAs which means they're not allowed to talk about it.

When Tommy Robinson was on trial one of the pieces of evidence against him was that he'd sent an email to Darren Osborne, who drove his van into people outside a mosque

https://archive.vn/cHVgS

The following week, he received an email from Mr Robinson, the former English Defence League leader, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, the court heard.

Discussing the Isis-linked terror attack that killed 22 people in Manchester the previous month, it said: “What Salman Abedi did is not the beginning, and it won’t be the end.

“There is a nation within a nation forming just beneath the surface of the UK. It is a nation built on hatred, on violence and on Islam.”

Mr Robinson’s message, which was identical to that sent to other supporters signed up to The Rebel website, made allegations against Abedi’s local mosque before adding: “It has now been left to us, the ordinary people of the United Kingdom, to stand up to hate, to unite and in one voice say ‘no more’.”

The message was canvassing support for a march planned for 11 June in Manchester, where Mr Robinson said his supporters would “make ourselves impossible to ignore”, jurors were told.

I.e. the email 'from Tommy Robinson' wasn't actually from him. Osborne had got his email address on Rebel Media's lists and was being spammed with emails for various fundraising drives and marches in the name of Rebel Media's star reporters.

Caolan Robertson, admittedly not the most trustworthy of sources, claimed Lauren Southern was fired for refusing to fundraise for an Israel trip

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rebel_News#Blowback_over_coverage_of_the_Unite_the_Right_Rally

British contributor Caolan Robertson no longer works for the Rebel.[50] Robertson claims he was fired for "knowing too much" about the Rebel's finances, claiming the company dishonestly solicited donations for projects that were already funded and concealing how that money was spent.[50] He also claimed that Southern was fired for refusing to tape a fundraising appeal for the Rebel's Israel trip after fundraising targets had already been met. Robertson also played audio of Levant offering him thousands of dollars of what Levant himself called "hush money". Levant denies these allegations and says he will present evidence opposing this in court, claiming that he was being "blackmailed" by Robertson and his partner.[3][51][52][53] Levant has since briefly talked about The Rebel's finances in his online show and released a summary on The Rebel's website.[54][55] It was reported that person that negotiated the settlement is the former director of communication for Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Kory Teneycke.[56]

Robertson is the only ex Rebel employee to have either refused to sign or broken an NDA on leaving.

Meanwhile, the CPJ, a liberal organization that hasn't yet burned its credibility to the ground, is reporting Slatz is still locked up

Washington D.C. June 3, 2020—Canadian journalist Anna Slatz, reporter for the independent news website Rebel News, remains in New York custody since being arrested yesterday evening while covering protests, Eitan Gillboord, vice president of operations at Rebel News told CPJ this afternoon.

“We call on New York authorities to quickly release Anna Slatz without charges. It is unacceptable to arrest journalists who are doing their jobs and reporting on matters of public interest, including protests,” CPJ Program Director Carlos Martinez de la Serna said today in New York. “Detaining journalists for reporting is always abhorrent–and especially problematic during a global pandemic.”

Since May 29, at least 251 press freedom violations have been reported nationwide by journalists covering demonstrations against the death of a black man, George Floyd, in Minneapolis police custody. The U.S. Press Freedom Tracker, a nonpartisan website of which CPJ is a founding partner, is investigating each report and will publish confirmed incidents to its database.

CPJ’s calls to the booking and arraignment numbers at the central courthouses in both Brooklyn and Manhattan went unanswered.

The Post Millennial also covered it

Canadian reporter Anna Slatz has been arrested and jailed in New York City after covering the protests over the death of George Floyd that turned violent last night.

Slatz told Rebel News' Ezra Levant that police arrested her for breaking the curfew set in place to curve rioting, despite there existing a clear exception for journalists. Slatz is being held at the Brooklyn central booking station.

Good point that the curfew has an exception for journalists, which means she shouldn't have been arrested at all.

NDAs are endemic in journalism, for good reason, but his scam is worse coz he is a small outlet, so you can see the miserable ghost inside the shell easier. It prays on people who want to do actual journalism. (A myth unless you're very lucky or a citizen journalist, tbh).

The mailing list is peak unsophisticated clickbait scammery, though.

So, Erza, Are you saying you're putting people working for you out in a situation where there's a significant chance of getting arrested for BS/no reason and you can't swing a couple grand in bail? That would seem to be to be really bad planning and a case of doing things you can't afford. This may not be a common problem, But it's hardly unexpected.

And the crowdfunding goal being a moving target looks sketchy at best. If you're raising money for bail do that and call it done. This just looks like collecting as much money as possible off someone else getting locked up.
