Fair enough to argue that zoomers as a whole don't worship his opinions and they do treat him as a meme, but can you point to any other singular music critic with over 2 million subscribers/eyeballs on his content? His numbers are probably competitive with Pitchfork's view counts. Consulting music reviewers is barely even a thing now that all music is instantly available for free, so given that landscape I'd say Fantano is doing okay.

But mostly it's just extremely lol to pretend Scaruffi or Christgau have any relevance in 2021. They just don't.

I'm definitely not arguing that he's doing badly for himself. He makes enough money that it doesn't really matter, and he seems ignorant enough of his actual standing to be content. And I'm also not arguing that he doesn't influence zoomers' opinions, although that never really shows itself outside of rateyourmusic.

I feel he's burnt himself out to the point he doesn't give a shit anymore. His old videos had decent substance but his newer reviews he clearly does not have the time to put into each album. If he likes the artist, plenty of info, if not, a bunch of bad descriptions of some of their earlier albums if you're lucky and then some whining about how he liked the music but the drummer once mentioned in an article that he visited Israel before so it's a strong 4. Haven't even watched a review in over a year, even albums I listened to, it's just a waste of time at this point.
