Any ideas on really dumb Gunpla under $50? Visiting a friend next month and he recently got into the hobby so I am looking for something like a HG I can bring him.

Dumb as in like easy to build, or dumb as in memeworthy?
My favorite HG I’ve built so far is the Justice Knight. Goes together real easily, nub marks mostly hidden, great color separation on the base kit, and no polycaps. Plus, it’s under $25.

First thing that comes to mind is those Hello Kitty crossover kits that they put out for the SD Gundam and the SD Zaku (Grunt + Char custom).
There's even an animated crossover that went with it:

The way they played the Hello Kitty crossover so straight is pure comedy gold. Also I'd throw my hat in with these suggestions or the Voltron-style Tryon 3 Gundam from Build Divers. It's so much of a meme retro design that it's fun.
I'd have suggested the Nobel Gundam because a giant robot magical girl is priceless but it's around $60-$70. Not worth it for the meme.
I would punch a toddler in the face if it would get an MG of the Tryon 3 made. I absolutely love how batshit insane it is, even by build divers standards.
I actually have the papagguy kit, very fun build and its just so damn adorable.
Now, I finally got my crossbone x1 RG in and whooo boy, its like building a super minipla, but more complex. Very interesting build, but I do plan on adding the stickers (other than the eyes I applied them already, its just the stickers on the body), the cloak and the weapons sometime later.
Building it was not as painful as some minipla (dyna dragon was worse) and it came out pretty good. Like stated i plan on making the weapons, cloak, and adding the stickers (panel lining maybe but its very tiny and there are a few fiddly bits that move too easily, ie the front skirt is segmented for a feature and its a tad fiddly.)

The kit is surprisingly detailed for the size (1/144 scale, similar to HG but more mechanically detailed like MG) and i found out the stand for Zeong's arms can support the Crossbone! How fortunate because he doesn't stand too well on his own but that's mostly due to back weight of core fighter. But, the stand can't do crazy poses because its too thin but it still supports his weight.
So was this kit worth 80 dollars? (74 on ebay then add taxes) ehhh... not really, I was hoping to get it elsewhere for about 50, but they sold out at a different seller so I was locked to ebay which means scalpers... basically what I'm saying is look for a cheaper price somewhere, for 50, maybe 60 I'd say get it, but don't pay 80ish, the kit is a lot more complex and tiny pieces can be easily lost so only really for those that don't mind tiny pieces.
My next model kit idea is already brewing and I'm keeping an eye out, I had to renew my license and tags for my car ($82 out of my pay so I'm a bit taxed out of money right now but I'll be fine.) So now to eat some ice cream and then sleep.

I know the pain, they have listed the Mospeada legioss armo soldier variable kits but they have been in severe limbo since March.
Finished up with the HG Reborns kit and I don't know it's okay, has a lot of flaws. Biggest I had is with the four red wings on the back that were so quick to fall out I had to give each of them a thin layer of white glue to give it a little bit more stable connection while still giving it the ability to move. Stickers are probably the second biggest issue with some of them already coming up, would definitely recommend using paint instead. Doesn't really feel that poseable either, but that's probably me being to wary after having such a fun time with the wings. Haven't even tried the transformation.
Sad that it's basically the only kit for Reborns, think the design really deserves a new kit.
I think current Bandai could make a really neat kit, especially if they gave it a MG, but my only hope is that they make one along with all the Gundam 00 MG kits. Though I could see it needing a different inner frame for the transformation so I'm not sure.

I ended up picking up two of those Cup Noodles kits, they look really cool and should go well on my shelf.
I wouldn't hold your breath. I dont think Bandai will release any 2nd season MG kit that isn't the 00 at this point. I would kill for an Arche myself.Sad that it's basically the only kit for Reborns, think the design really deserves a new kit.

So let's be honest, how mad were you when you realized they kept redesigining the Penelope until what originally was a Mobile Armor style Nightingale-Gundam crossover turned into a Gundam Terducken?
I get that there's no way we could have gotten the pure AESTHETIC of the original novel design in an HG kit but that first redesign still looks close enough but able to be a model kit. It's so big, sharp and still carries that overall presence. We're already being charged $70+ baseline and they're gonna be using mostly CG for the movies, we all know it, so why? Why dumb down the Penelope so hard?
Conspiracy Theory time: At 26 meters tall in-narrative the Xi Gundam would be incredibly difficult to make into a 1/100 or MG, but it can still be released as a big RG. However, the Penelope is 35 meters tall and has a parts-forming transformation gimmick, so there is absolutely no way it could ever be made into an RG at a reasonable price and 1/100 scale is impossible. I think they made the Penelope look retarded on purpose so the Xi Gundam would look cooler and be easier to market for future merch.

lol Cup Noodles. But on the 00 note, I'm really looking forward to the 00 MG. Been playing some Super Robot Wars V recently and I'm blown away by how OP the Quant is, even having what's basically funnel energy blades and teleportation attacks. Not even the Unicorn could teleport.

The Quanta was the Setsuna suit for the movie, aWakening of the Trailblazer. It was also incomplete at the time, the Full Saber is the complete version.
The 00 is a generation behind the Qan-t, using the Solar furnaces from the 0 and Exia, so it couldn't achieve perfect sync. Celestial Being went to Jupitar to create two synced drives especially for Setsuna to take full advantage of him becoming the first true Innovator.
It was said in in some media like a comic or something that the unfinished Qan-T could have single handedly defeated the entire ELS force if Setsuna could fight them for 3 days straight.
That being said, in the movie Setsuna wants to avoid fighting the ELS so we get only a few minutes of it in battle before they try communicating.
Also the ELS Qan-T is basically portrayed in the G Generations game as the most powerful mobile suit. If you think the Qan-T is OP just look at its hybrid.
The Graham Gundam (Exia repair 4) uses the leftover sword bits from the Full Sabers construction as well but I dont think is had funnel properties.

Alright look, I enjoy me some realism in my robots and don't typically like space magic stuff too much since classic explosions and even funnel attacks are great...but that brought out my inner kid so hard I almost started worrying about homework. That's just so over the top and insane.
Looking forward to the Chinese third party accessories that'll be made for the MG when it releases. Imagine getting the parts to make the official kit into that? Dude I could explode into confetti.
No idea where to find the conversion kit for the other MG barbatos forums. It was obviously sold out on the official bandai site.

It was P-Bandai, making it insanely rare and expensive now. Best bet is to find it at HobbyLinkJapan and wait forever and a day for international shipping I guess.
aWakening of the Trailblazer is kind of a bad movie, but the last 30 minutes is Gundam Dynasty Warriors. You get to see the full potential of all the 4.5 generation suits while they scream "We are Celestial Being". If you have no interest in 00 but want some over the top, anime, wave clearing action, just watch the last 30 minutes its pretty cool.
That being said 00 S1 is great in my opinion and I recommend it to anyone. Interesting world and a lot of great suit designs. I know people dont really like the GN Particles, but they are a good macguffin to let the Gundams fly in atmosphere and stealth around, so we get lots of fun anime style fights.
s2 is also great, but I'm a big fan of Ribbons so of course I'd enjoy the season where he's the main villain so my opinion is very biased. It definitely wasn't as serious as the first season, but I enjoyed a good chunk of it for the unintentional comedy and seeing the meisters getting along.

What's wrong with the GN Particles? How much less scientific can it be compared to super saiyan crystal unicorn?
Is Season 2 and the movie necessary to the 00 story?
Gundam Wing definitely needs Endless Waltz to finish it off both for the characters and philosophical themes (and it's great even with the silly angel wings) and IBO doesn't have a conclusion without the second season (which I've heard is not great at all).
