I currently own an electric bass, but I'm looking for an electric guitar to buy. Anyone know some good brands that have cheaper guitars?

I have a Jay Turser (which is pretty much a knock-off Gibson). Got it from a pawn shop, and it was insanely cheap. If you're looking for something for like, $50-$90, look there first. If you want a new guitar, I'm currently looking for one, and they can range from $140-$990. I pay more attention to price than brand when I go browse the store, but I'm sure Fender has some cheap, good guitars.

Fender's intro line is called Squier and Gibson's is Epiphone. Both tend to be really good quality cheap versions of their big sister brands.

Thanks! Right now I have like $100 or something and I haven't been to a guitar center for a while so. But I also asked my uncle about them and he might bring me there. There's also a pawn shop by my work so I might check that out.

I don't know much about electrics; I've only played acoustic. But I saw a used Ibanez for $40 in Guitar Center a few weeks ago. Looked like a decent guitar though. Just needed a bit of work done to it. If I ever move to electric, their used section is definitely the place I'd start.

You shouldn't spend too little. A lot of cheap guitars have a poor sound and that can affect your learning of how to play it.
Some would say that you don't spend less than $200 on an electric guitar. It's up to you, really.
Also, it's important to decide if you want a rock guitar or a metal guitar. Metal guitars tend to have active pickups, while rock guitars usually have passive pickups.

I found a $150 Les Paul Epiphone that I might buy, I'm $40 short though but I'll be able to get it.
