In all fairness that is an ugly kid

She looks like this weird looking girl I went to school with. Even the same glasses.

This reminds me of some other commercial with a similar "What's a ___" line. But I can't remember it. But I'm pretty sure this isn't a new idea in advertising.

This is so dumb to get up in arms over. No one will remember this dumb commercial a few years from now. It's not really that bad. They are trying to get kids to scream "Mom! I want that!" by making it look cool and absolutely necessary to own. The girl isn't nearly as annoying as I was led to believe.

They want you to buy the stupid thing. It's not a good strategy because everyone got bent out of shape and thinks Apple is implying kids are too dumb to know what a computer is.

But this is not how I am perceiving the line at all. The way she says "What's a computer" doesn't really sound like a question. It's more of a tag line to me. Like Apple is trying to say "This isn't a computer. It's a iPad."

Am I the only one who sees it this way?

What the fuck did i just witness

The computer went *Stupid Beeping noises* and your paper was gone? Oh wait, half of it? CTRL+Z? Backups? What are you even talking about?
And then the half assed editing on the end like she was cut off.

With her looks and her speech patterns it seemed like she went to college for a different reason.

She said in an interview that she didn't get much sleep prior to the commercial shoot.

She said in an interview that she didn't get much sleep prior to the commercial shoot.

I remember Ellen Feiss from years ago but I never read into it, she basically had to battle with the publicity that came with the ad and turned down numerous interviews and offers to appear on late night TV shows.
I read further into the lore, she took cough syrup just before the ad so she was actually doped up.

She did appear in a single movie that was French. Basically the director really wanted her, so he doxed her, called up her school or some shit and they stupidly enough gave him her number, so he had to try and convince her for a few weeks to do it because she was pissed off that he doxed her. She ended up doing the movie and seemed to enjoy the experience a bit (its an independent movie so nothing massive) and got a free trip to France out of it. The director got a hardon for her because the character in the movie is on a shroom trip, so I guess he wanted that true & honest Ellen Feiss stoned look.

Anyway, she looks like she's done pretty well for herself:

Good on her for largely not playing ball with the people trying to basically use her for their own shit. From what she's said she basically didn't want to be the side character on late night TV shows etc and realized that being a super celebrity wasn't something she was interested in.

Okay, I'm not huge into novelty watches, and I find that Seiko beast as fuck.

EDIT for contribution:

Since I scour for news related to consumer electronics, I can't tell you how many times an Apple fanboy brings up sales as a counterpoint to design complaints.

I thought tablets died out like 3-4 years ago?
Android did for the most part. Ipads continue to sell 10s of millions a year, largely due to better hardware and build quality. Androids are limited to low end trash, largely due to the prevalence of large android phones IMO.

BTW, with the way Google's been eating Apple's lunch in the education domain, it might actually be kids her age asking not "What's a computer," but "What's an Apple" in the near future.

Sorry for the double post, sorry for the antisemitism in the last one, but too lazy to edit either.

Just weird to see Apple using kids in an ad when they've gone from #1 to #3 in education in less than three years.
That's mainly because apple is shit for education.

Believe me, school districts, especially administration, have a raging hardon for apples. Something about liberal mongrels loving their overpriced fruit garbage because of its image. But schools dont have tons of money, and $350 chromebooks with keyboards and easy to replace parts annihilate un-repairable expensive tablets.

On top of that, apples have horrible management tools. Apples are not domain compatible, cant run a lot of proprietary education software, and because of the lack of proper domain management, you cant do things like network panning printers or synced log ons.

there are work arounds, but they just dont work very well. School admins just want to buy them because they can spend taxpayer money with reckless abandon without getting in trouble and get their trendy iCrap for free in the process.

Apple's customers are the only ones crazy enough to shell out real money for a tablet. It'd be better to buy a laptop at that point.

What's funny about this is I've never known a single person who would buy a tablet without a magnetic connector for a keyboard, or one without a keyboard out of the box. The local Wal Mart nearest to me sells these $150 Windows 10 2-in-1's and they've outsold pretty much all the flagship options. Chromebooks are smoking apple products to the extent where the location saw it fit to downsize the available inventory of iPad Minis, which had a much healthier influx of sales before they started selling Samsung and Acer Chromebooks.

I’m a computer janitor at a high school and everything is done on google docs now. I’m Apple fan #1 but iPads are the worst in education and I’m contstantly begging my principal to buy chrome book carts and stop iPad purchases completely. There’s rumors of Apple releasing a $249 iPad this year but I doubt it. Even then you need to get a keyboard case for it and you still can’t beat the $200 chrome book that gets the job done.

That said iPads are great for personal use and this message was sent from my 10.5” iPad Pro.

Cheap laptops and chromebooks are also helping kill off tablets, and the low end tablets that sell are mostly Amazon's fire tablets, which run a weird Android fork that can be "tweaked" to be more like normal Android.

As for why Apple is so common in education, it started before Apple became the hipster's brand of choice really. Apple literally gave away Apple IIs to schools, before moving them onto the Mac lineup. They then gave schools some discounts on Macs, especially low end Macs designed for the education market.

While HP, Dell, Lenovo, and likely more post full repair manuals online for easily swapping out parts, Apple does not do this, and furthermore modern Apple products are notorious for being extremely fragile (Watch Louis Rossmann's repair vids on YouTube for examples). This isn't boding well for schools who didn't dump Apple at all.

So... Not like it's surprising or anything, but Apple releases a modern speaker without bluetooth or an AUX port.

lol... Smart generation indeed...

They apparently remember that Steve Jobs liked getting rid of things, so that must be cool, but don't understand why he got rid of the specific things he did and think just getting rid of things by itself is cool.

Apple commercial pisses off people
Remind me, how many times this happened before? Why is there some inherent smugness to Apple commercials? Is this what cultivated the stereotype of Apple product user in the first place, or is it just Apple marketing department trying to represent their consumer base to a T?

Apple is as much, if not more, of a lifestyle brand as it is a technology brand. Consider phones: for the average person, the technical differences between an iPhone and an equally expensive Android are meaningless. They both get you on your social media, take decent pictures, play music from whatever cloud service you use... everything a normie actually does. So what's left if Apple wants to keep standing alone in the market? Being seen as a premium, exclusive, luxury brand that distinguishes you from the pack of plebs who use the competition. That, and the general human bias to think things that are more expensive are better, whether or not they actually are.

In short, it's both. Apple cultivates the stereotype because the stereotype is what keeps them in business.
