I have no words as to how monumentally retarded this slapfight is getting. Also, wasn't Epic slapped by the courts for pulling this same shit earlier?
If "Free Fortnite" means freeing the original creators of and the base game for Fortnite from the Chicom hell they've stumbled into. It wasn't an industry changer but it was a neat concept that still would have been a streamer game at least. Now we have Epic using it as an excuse to install their game store that's borderline malware while thinking they can compete with Steam as a marketplace through totally not throwing china-money at developers for at least partial exclusivity.

Necroing/Updating on this case. Apple subpoena Valve for a shit load of their commercial data because this is apparently relevant to their case. Valve is (rightfully) telling them to go fuck themselves. This case has died down a bit in the past 2 months, but it seems to be heating up again.

Yeah, Apple's been doing a few subpoenas, and Tim's been acting up again, filing antitrust claims in Australia and England. The actual case in the US is still a few months away though.

The Apple article on PCGamer got buried by the BLM crap posted today, so...

Only reason I updated is a friend linked me this article, which seemed interesting because it's involving Valve with a ridiculous request. This case has really fallen off. Hopefully interest/activity picks up again.

I'm trying to figure out what Valve got to do with this. Is this some kind of hail mary lawyering to also drag Valve into the mud? You'd think Apple wants Valve on their side at least for this case so that they can tell Epic to fuck right off.

they're the biggest and older than most stores, if anyone has somewhat conclusive data it's valve. plus they were the cause for a lot of timmy's anal anguish in the past, if apple can use valve's 30% cut as another counter argument to bury epic it would make sense - but for that you want to make sure the data is legit and the right one.

not sure if a subpoena was the smartest play here...

Hoeg Law goes over this too, Valve is playing smart by not trying to take sides as its not a thing they want to take sides in as each sides harms them one way or the other.

the article mentioned valve worked to some extend with apple, but even without it apple's requests are just ridiculous, especially since they aren't even part of the lawsuit.
A long reach double dip perhaps? Seeing valve data to defend themselves AND know how valve's doing. Its stupid and greedy, but you know, look at what timmys doing.

The Judge sided with Apple and has ordered Valve to hand over sales data on 436 games on Steam.

But why do they need it? Did they say yet?
Their legal rationale is that they want to show that steams 30% cut and apples 30% cut are analogous.

Epic|fortnite want to be restored to the ios store. They want to be restored AND be allowed keep their mechanism for circumventing apples 30% cut.

Their argument is that 30% is too much and effectively want the courts to rule that ios is monopolistic and abusively so.

Apple is saying "look at valve, they take 30% and it wasn't affected by EGS entering they market so 30% isn't egregious or due to monopoly" and have the courts order epic to either fuck off or start paying the 30%

I suspect the judge is involved with Apple somehow. Additionally, they WILL sell the data to China.
Part of the stipulation, I believe, was that Apple itself won't have access and it's going to their attorneys only for the purposes of the case. Dunno what those purposes are but it's apparently something about defining the video game market.

Yeah, right, and these lawyers totally won't copy the data and hand it over to their clients.
If they get caught they're the only possible source for it and they can get disbarred or even be charged with criminal contempt. Are they paid enough not to care? Maybe.

Some more sperging and trying to fight his bad faith case on Twatter.

Also yes, company that is 40% owned by tencent is totally perfectly fine to trust with your data and Epic Games never takes control of things for consumers and developers, they've never put games on sale and had publishers pull them cause it breaks contract agreements with the developers or other things. Epic games is a totally clean not bad company, always for consoomer choice.

Valve can essentially grab you by the balls much more easier if they don't like what you're putting on their platform. That part is true and rules like that are always a gray area and up to the company itself even if it's real fucking vague. It's more or less a catchall rule that allows for individual judgement, because someone will always try and find a way around.
