Apple Thread - What's your favorite apple?

Gala = honorable mention trash apples

Any green apple = also trash

Do Golden Delicious still exist? Those suck too.

Honeycrisp are crazy expensive. I don't see Lady Apples too often anymore. I don't mean Pink Lady. I mean those little apples. I never got to try them but they used to sell them all the time lcally. But now I never see them.

I guess I like Fuji and Macintosh. Braeburn is good too. I might like those best. I usually go with whatever is the cheapest that isn't Red Delicious.

For wild stuff, hopa crabapples. I ate soooo many of those in the fall. Some people get a stomach ache from them and it is recommended that you made jelly. But I ate them raw and thought they were refreshingly tart. Also they are free.

I also love sour so I will fuck with a granny smith straight up and think they work better in salads and most cooking. I have a fiji core on my desk right now, I probably should clean it up, but that's what we pay people for.

Honeycrisps are good, but I found some Pink pearls not too long ago, and they were pretty solid.

Honeycrisps for raw eating, Granny Smiths or golden delicious for cooking in pies. The goldens are bland as fuck when raw, but sweeten up and have a good texture in pies.

They were delicious, 80 years ago before grocery stores wanted a perfectly pretty apple and farmers bred all the flavor out trying to get that.

I like scifresh/jazz and honeycrisp apples best but in reality I eat whatever's on sale.

The University of Minnesota, who originally created the Honeycrisp variety recently created a Honeycrisp/Zestar! cross called SweeTango that blows all other apples out of the water.

Hard cider is another use for them!

You probably don't want to eat cider apples, though. Some are pretty unpleasant.

Gala Apples for me, Granny Smith Apples are high note and keeps the thirst at bay. I'm convinced Red Delicious was made according Pastor Graham's (think Graham Cracker) felonious concept of a bland diet applied to fruit, to keep carnal desires at bay.
