MGM, the studio behind James Bond, is now up for grabs as Apple has had preliminary talks with the studio.

Apple and Netflix are apparently fighting over MGM of all things

Peacock and HBO Max aren’t here yet, so we’re not quite all the way into the Streampocalypse, but an early combatant and one of the freshest competitors are apparently fighting each other for a chance to get a very specific edge on the other streamers—and not a particularly big one at that...

Netflix also had talks with MGM as well. Both companies want MGM’s library for their streaming services.

Seems like they're becoming like Disney under Iger. That is, becoming something the company wasn't meant to be (with the whole streaming service) and on top of that being "woke".

The consolidation of media is only getting worse. But having Apple enter the market is in some ways worse since they will restrict access to films they don't own.

I don’t know what would be worse, Apple restricting people from watching Raging Bull and The Silence of the Lambs, or Disney putting all the Fox catalog in the Disney vault.

I hope not. While I'm all for doing anything it takes for The Mousefather not to own everything since the dawn of man-made creations, Apple is a tech giant. Them trying to take the steps towards becoming a media giant too is just going to be trouble. End the vicious cycle before it begins.

With Apple TV+, Apple is proving they have no business being in the streaming business. They got a weak collection of originals no one watches. So I imagine they want MGM’s catalog to boast subscribers for them.

While some think this might help MGM become a major studio again with Apple’s resources to make epics like Gone With the Wind (that’s with Warner Bros now along with the rest of the pre-1986 MGM library), I doubt they would want to profit from MGM’s newer theatrical releases.
