So I went into a Best Buy today for the first time in a while and I saw these:

I got excited because I thought it was a surprisingly affordable ar glasses package (as it has AR in the title), but it was just a pair of headphone sunglasses.

Don't get me wrong, they were cool and seemed to work well, but I was disappointed nonetheless.

Have any of you gotten a chance to play around with AR equipment yet?
If so, what were your thoughts?

I've been waiting for AR glasses to hit for years, but most of the stuff sold as AR are just regular glasses with bone conducting headphones built-in and maybe a single button interface (which is, granted, pretty cool.) The Google glass if anything set things back a few years because you'd have to be as autistic as Johnathan Yaniv to wear the google glass in public and god knows what he was using that product to do in bathrooms.

I was super excited when I saw all those awesome videos of MS Holo lens. From what I've been reading even on the second version of the headset your AR view area is a square in the center and you can't quite do those neat minecraft levels on your desk. Really bums me out because much like the Kinect this is really cool tech that they can be doing more to develop.

Don't get me wrong, the bone conducting headphones are a very interesting concept, but they deliver rather uninspiring performance.

It's great if you want to listen to music\podcast when you on work\gym etc. so you can hear both music and people around you and if you don't care much about quality sound.
My friend got one and it's great tho it's quite pricey so i can't afford it myself.

Oh and they look like sci-fi things which makes them double-cool,

That you don't have to stick some nasty earfuckers into your orifices anymore is a cool enough concept for me. Let's see how quick it's going to catch up on sound quality.

I'm keeping an eye on Vue - if they pull this off and someone comes up with a decent visual AR design, it would sell like gangbusters. I would never NOT be listening to music again.
