Are hard drives the new gold? -

I think they are. I thought HDDs would be covid prof because HDDs are manufactured in clean-rooms and would not need to be shutdown for the virus. Two years ago an 8TB WD Elemens drive cost 125 USD. Last year it was 135 USD. Now it's 199 USD, which is outraguos because two 4TBs only cost 170 USD. The 199 for 8TB is over priced.

Why the fuck can't a compentent HDD manufacture (not seagate) sell me a 8TB 3.5 inch HDD for 125 USD? Why can't you take my money retarded companies? This is all very upsetting. Fuck the US. Your money is worth nothing.

Did you hear about the "Chia" cryptocurrency?

I don't think that explains the price stagnation, but we've been through long periods of price stagnation before, such as after the Thailand floods. Nowadays the amount of hard drives being shipped is decreasing, although the storage shipped annually is not. They are bigger but going directly to datacenters.

In the future everything will be stored on the cloud and streamed. PCs in the future won't even have HDDs anymore. What do you need a HDD for, to keep cp or white supremacist materials there? You will own no data and you will love it.
Remember, in due time cp will probably be legal the way things are going. Though you are correct in assuming that any white caught acting secretive for whatever reason will probably be denounced as a white supremacist.

It's the cycle of things. In the early days of computing they had the monolithic mainframe that everyone connected to with dumb terminals. Then came the PC and processing power was distributed out again.
Now we're putting everything back on the monolith, although admittedly instead of being a computer that takes up several floors of a building, it's a server farm that takes up several buildings.

Doubt it, those companies will either switch to producing SSD's in the same capacities or just start building dumb capacity shit like 50TB HDD's, the biggest mainstream HDD I know of is the Ironwolf 18TB anyway. Lose-Lose in both cases, unless something magical happens
