Are people who have dogs mentally ill? -

I'm not talking about having a dog in some house in the middle of the country with land where the dog can be free, and can even serve as guard and deterrent against invaders.
I'm talking about people who have dogs in small apartments, that use the dog to supply an emotional deficiency, often humanizing the animal, something nicknamed "Disney syndrome".
These people sometimes put the lives of their pet dogs on equal value as the lives of human children, rationalizing that they're entitled to have their dog bark and annoy the neighbours because children do the same when they cry and nobody complains about that. Extreme cases even "kiss" the dog, with all the potential for disease transmission such an act entails.

Some of them will even go as far as to negrate this post.

I think having a dog (or most pets for that matter) and having an emotional bond to them is perfectly fine and normal. But people who dress them up in clothes, use overly ridiculous baby talk with them, and/or spend way too much money on expensive "gourmet" dog food are absolute and utter lunatics that you should avoid like the plague.

If you treat a dog like a child then you are close of being mentally ill. Putting clothes on them, having them plastic surgery for aesthetic reasons or breeding them to death (like most of these dogs they show on Limey's CRUFTS) is not normal. It is acceptable to realize that these animals have feelings, but you should not put them on one level of humans.
Also do not put your ethics on a dog. If you're a fucking vegan that's not the dog's problem. Those are carnivores, feed them meat.

Having a dog in the big city means you are that dog's shit slave till it dies, have fun removing dog shit whenever that dog feels having a dump.

You are mentally ill when you reflect human emotions in the dog's face. The dog is a mirror you see things in you want to see. It is an animal, so treat it like that.

I put lots of things above the life of a baby. Babies are fuckin disgusting and I'm glad I never was one. At least dogs have the good sense to be cute. If they were as miserable and useless as babies, I'd never associate with them

I absolutely loathe the pets are better than children crowd. I can think of a number of reasons why having a pet is a million times worse than having a child. With pets:
You always have to always pick up it's shit and get yelled at by people who don't want pets shitting in their yard
You have to deal with people getting mad because their either afraid or allergic to it
You can't have people over without it flipping it out, plus you have to be careful who you have over (See tip two)
When you go on trips you have to waste money on either leaving at a kennel or with family or with the neighbors
You have to take it to the vet where you have to wait a long time and run the risk of running into pets that you're allergic to, which if that happens goodbye the rest of your day
