I know the term "neckbeard" isn't as commonly used anymore, but I think "soyboy" is used to describe pretty much the same type of person. That is, an unathletic, arrogant faggot with facial hair that looks like dead spiders and an interest in embarrassing shit like star wars. What do you think?

When I think of a neckbeard, I think of an overweight, unhygienic geek with the unkempt facial hair who obsesses over geeky interests, usually vidya or anime. I think of a NEET or someone who has only ever worked a part time entry level job, preferring to still live with their parents so they can spend more on junk food and their hobbies. Mindless consumers. They can have friends, usually other neckbeards but have very poor social skills with the opposite sex. They have an idealized, fantasy girl that is completely unattainable, the weeby neckbeards think they'll have girls falling all over them in Glorious Nippon. Often they fall into Nice Guy territory, not quite an incel, but on their way. They're usually fedora atheists, and hardcore leftists.

Wow...after writing all that out I take it back. Soyboys and neckbeards are pretty much the same thing.

Neckbeard is the more nerdy geek kind of beta male like a star wars nerd with poor hygene and under developed social skills but tend to be better then average at tech.

Soyboy is more IRL and social usually advocates for social justice and feminism so they can meet women by proving their devotion to the cause and for what ever reason the vast majority of them have a high opinion about soy products maybe their weak genes made them lactose intollerant. They are essentially a more beta version of a hipster if you can believe it.

Neckbeard and Soyboy are the before and after of weak, nerdy men in a society with a prominent internet landscape.

Back in the day, the neckbeard was this classically out of shape, unmaintained nerd, interested in nerdy shit like tabletop or video games, atheism, slightly alternative politics (while many were social democrats there were also a fair amount of libertarians). He was a largely insular creature, who basically just stayed in his nerd circle and only reeeee'd at an outsider for approaching it.

Now the soyboy I would like to attribute to GamerGate. At the risk of sounding like one of the many contributors to a CatParty thread, GG was really when battle lines started getting drawn and the more socially conscious nerds started sucking up to the burgeoning social justice power structure, while the hip rebellious types started fading into the margins and being painted as against progress. So these days the lunatics run the asylum to a certain degree and you will find very awkward, "beta" men leading the vanguard of SJW bullshit in media. I guess what I'm trying to say is that soyboys are the neckbeards that saw an evolutionary opportunity, a chance to improve their social standing by supporting left-wing politics.

Neckbeard is a very 2010s era term, it was meant to mostly mock edgy center-politics Internet-Atheists but grown to be expanded as just another way to call people nerds and geeks.

Soyboys is very similar to Neckbeard but now mocks woke center-left consoomers.

Neckbeards used to denote the typical edgy anime fan who calls himself a proud atheist or something. The kind who harps on how cool they are because they have obscure tastes and also because they're so smart.
Soyboys are almost the opposite with how they carry themselves as 'good guys' who hate nazis and love their mainstream capeshit. Also instead of trying to come off as better because they think they're smart, they try to come off as better due to their wokeness.

I think it comes down to a difference in behaviour rather than codifying attributes. Surface level the only difference is that neckbeards are fatter and soyboys more lanky. Socio-politically neckbeards can be anywhere whereas soylents are what they are due to leftism and their desire to appease it.

How they tend to act is where differences arrive. Soyboys are weak and vulnerable as a point of pride and will capitulate to others, especially women, for heatpats and good boy points. Neckbeards are far more abrasive and isolationist, especially when face to face with a "normie". The soyboy wants to have everyone all smiling and holding hands under a big gay rainbow because that's what he thinks will buy him the most praise. Neckbeards want you to GTFO their secret club. Plus neckbeards are far more willing to get aggressive or confrontational when pushed, it's just that they are still mostly cowards when it comes to physical confrontation.

I can't even believe I'm going to say it as it just sounds untrue, even to me, but neckbeards are the slightly more masculine soyboys. At very least they are less self-hating.
