Then of course the whole #saveyourinternet movement.

Is there any reason why this is under DSP? I would not think it would effect him unless these sites just decide to punish everyone because of the EU. I cannot find anything about them being blocked from viewing the site as much as certain content being restricted from them.

What these articles seem to be saying is that the websites would have to go through extra steps to restrict EU visitors, and so it could be concluded it might just be easier to block those in the EU rather than bother with the restrictions. Sorry if it isnt exactly what you were looking for. I could only find that it would be a high probability that they could be blocked based on the work that would have to go into it for youtube and twitch.

less viewers for phil means less "interaction" is why i believe phil is worried

He has repeatedly claimed EU viewers will need a VPN to use Twitch. I can't believe that, because it's about upload filters.

He claimed 20% of his viewerbase was from Europe today but take that with a grain of salt.

Last time it was 40% ish...

I hate him talking about it. HE DOESNT GIVE A SHIT. But he read it might cause him some problem and now he says "we must resist, fight, overthrone our government" JUST SO HE CAN ENJOY BEING A LEECH ON THE INTERNET. Disgusting.

Many European countries rejected the articles. The problem is that since the laws have already been approved the only thing the EU parliament could do was putting everything on hold waiting for the European elections (23-26 May) so until then nobody will be affected. Consider that even if the articles get accepted by the single states each one of them has to write their own laws to enforce them so it might take months or even years before seeing an actual effect on the internet

This might get into some deep territory, but does any country part of the EU have to accept article 13? Or is there some penalty for not doing so? I am in the US, and so I am unaware how much autonomy EU countries have when he comes to EU laws.

I've got a question - would article 13 affect the UK? I've heard people say it won't because Brexit but I've also heard people say yes because until Brexit happens the UK is still in the EU.

You can refuse to implement EU laws (see eastern European countries's stance on immigration quotas) the drawback is that you're seen as a "contrarian" so you have to deal with constant pressure from other states (usually Germany and France), reduced influence in the European parliament and reduced investements from the EU on local projects. In this case the article is not a law but more of a guideline so every state that chooses to adopt it has to write its own set of laws that may be different from its neighbor countries. This might lead to a clusterfuck where something blocked in Belgium may be allowed in Germany and vice versa

The funny thing is upon reading the Article, it seems to effect more the newspapers who are holding for dear life about their stuff being published on other sites. So, in a sense any website can just go "Fuck you, we ain't publishing your shit" and thus the websites lose more cash in the process.

So in other words, the EU is incapable of actually making and enforcing laws.

Gotcha.

So Article 13 has officially passed, so that means Dave will complain on today's prestream. I bet he will tell his European fans to donate him now, while you can still watch him live because you won't be able to see him anymore. Also expect him to say "Although you cannot watch me anymore, you can still donate to me or be a patron. I know you won't get to see me anymore but at least you have the feeling that you helped your favorite streamer out, after all, I have a 10 YEAR LEGACY!" So dont be surprised if Dave gets an increase of donations today, as it will be his European Piggys giving their last sheckles to Dave and saying goodbye.
Although Article 13 sucks for people, I can see one upside to this and that is Dave struggling in the upcoming months because he will get less donations from Europe. Either way I expect an interesting prestream today.
