Artists, bands and genres with the worst fanbases -

All major fanbases are dogshit because social media amplifies the vocal minority of retards who built the strong parasocial relationship with their given musical act. More often than not, the artist is at worst mediocre and the dummies' behavior reflects badly on them.

The Tragically Hip

Just because the law requires that Canadian shit be played so much doesn’t mean The Hip were any fucking good. The fact that they are essentially unheard of outside Canada reinforces this.
Road Apples and Fully Completely deserve all the hype they get IMO.

But agreed, they're otherwise overrated and the rest of their albums have... maybe 1 or 2 good songs on them. World Container is actually a pretty solid hard rock album but that's about it. Their last album I feel just gets hype because Gord Downie died after released. I've heard it like maybe 3 times and forgotten everything except for the (admittedly stellar) final track.

I half agree, half don't agree. Punk is so broad, it's hard to paint it with one brush. If you accuse it of being too arty or obsessed with political purity, I could raise you oi! whose mission statement as a subgenre was simply "having a laugh." (And it's no secret it was full of right-leaning/patriotic bands, which is why historical revisionists in the punk scene try to paint oi! as being some sort of fringe outlier thing, when it was a fucking massive scene that was around back as early as '77)
Accuse punk of being creatively bankrupt 3 chord slop, and could I raise you all the artier post-punk bands like The Pop Group, Public Image Ltd, et al, who were basically continuing what Captain Beefheart and a bunch of krautrock acid casualties were doing in the 60s/70s. Or all the critically beloved NY proto-punk stuff, or whatever.

I look at it more as a milieu than a genre; a general rejection of the old stadium rock/prog aristocracy, yes, but at the same time, a context for the new generation at that time to inherit/re-absorb old musical ideas in their own way. (Late Black Flag and Flipper making Black Sabbath style riffs "cool" again, which sorta accidentally invented grunge, etc)

Ultra-retarded sloppy punk like GG Allin and The Germs is sort of my bread & butter, admittedly. The more low IQ and talentless the band, the more I like them. And punk was fighting the good fight against those fucking reverb gated drums in the 80s, you gotta give it that. Punk is some of the only stuff from that decade that sounds timeless from a production standpoint. Although any self-described punk you meet is invariably going to be a complete tool.
There actually is quite a few right wing punk bands that trigger the subculture, bands like Screeching Weasel, the Smut Peddlers, The Queers, One Life Crew, Madball, Agnostic Front, Murphys Law, Sheer Terror, Laid2rest, Type O Negative, Guttermouth, The Vandals, etc. But yeah OI! was very right wing but most of the bands were pretty stinky IMO besides cock sparrer lol. I saw Cock Sparrer once and the lead singer went on a rant about how muslim terrorism is ruining everything. Also all the members of the Misfits (arguably the best punk band) are right wing and Micheal Graves is a proud boy, but everybody in the punk scene just ignores it because nobody can top the misfits.

I do admit I like Goreshit (More leaning towards stuff like Burn This Moment and O’er the Flood)
But I can see why people would say that people think the genres sound the same. Lolicore’s always been a guilty pleasure of mine.

Anyways, for my opinion. I fucking despise Eminem’s fanbase.
Seconding this very late as someone who's listened since the early '10s. However I do agree that Goreshit gets dickridden a bit much, and I think it's half because the vast majority of lolicore (or lolicore-affiliated) producers are complete shit save for him and a few other exceptions, and half because at least one or two of Gore's songs have notorious beatmaps in certain online rhythm games. Steppa, GnB, and Rituals are a lot stronger than his loli earblasters anyhow.

On topic, two additions:
  • Drainers and whatever you'd call the people who listen to DOOMSHOP are insufferable and directly responsible for any hearing loss I've suffered within the last three years. I mock them on principle.
  • This is a sweeping general issue with certain genres, but the fanbase of any music artist that makes "dark" music tends to be infested with edgelords and wannabe interpreters/philosophers. Some of my favorite(?) examples are the comments for any VOCALOID composer who writes about heavy topics or just abstractly (Pinocchio-P, Kikuo, Neru, maybe Utsu-P, etc.). I imagine the fans of English-only VOCALOID writers are even worse, but English VOCALOID blows in general so I avoid it.

BUCK-TICK fans (the Japanese ones) are sonic-tier terrible

(this is all from notgreatestsite, which is run by a few people under one or two names, so take it with a grain of salt)

  • Followed the band members around on taxis
  • one person pretended to faint to grab the singer’s attention
  • hate international fans with a passion
  • rallied to get one person’s newsletter membership revoked bc they posted on the internet
  • are just plain catty and deserve a thread

Over my time listening to country music in particular I find that old country fans are quite frequently stuck in the past and say that new country is not "real" country. That's like saying electric powered cars aren't "real" cars.

Everyone here agrees it's kpop retards, and I'd like to add it's 100% the artists fault. they create this fake image that makes young fans act obsessive like:
  • Queer baiting to encourage shipping + pretending to be "too busy" to date.
  • Constantly acting like victims in the industry which makes fans overprotective of these millionaires against mean tweets- which is funny because most of these artists are racists and sexists like most of south koreans.
  • Pedo baiting by lots of female artists who act and dress like (sexy) kids.
  • Pretending to be in need of money to push sales so fans buy the same album many times,
  • Creating this fake stalking problem that generates more obsessive fans who spend way too much money on them. this whole ordeal can be avoided by buying private jets and tightening security like any other artist in the world.
  • Pretending to care about their international fans yet failing to understand basic English after YEARS of "learning"
which means, K-pop fandom is made of: horny tween girls, arab girls with daddy issues, incels, SJWs, stalkers, pedos and other fetishists and maybe 10% just like the music.

I'm sure in few years stanning kpop would be the woke thing to do, and disliking it would make you a nazi.

It really is awful. And I thought metal elitists were most deserving of ire. I really do question if K-pop fans (especially international ones) even really like the music that much. They just want to fangasm over pretty plastic people and manufactured drama.

That said, the worst music genre is reggaeton. It's ghetto trash music listened to by thots and wannabe latino gangbangers who blast their reggaeton garbage out of hideous tricked up cars at 2am when you are trying to sleep. Fuck reggaeton.

Punk Rock

Punk music is extremely overrated and awful in its own right (The Ramones and some of the early 80's Goth bands being the only real exceptions to the rule) but the punk subculture is even worse and always has been outside of maybe the earliest British punks in the 70's and early 80's, who were more genuine in their anti-conformity and weren't pretentious anarchist snobs like their successors and American equivalents.

Coincidentally, a lot of those early British apolitical punks would later become the cool Goth bands I mentioned earlier, the prime examples being The Sisters of Mercy or Siouxsie and The Banshees (Andrew Eldritch is a left-leaning liberal in his personal life but The Sisters of Mercy aren't anything like Crass or even Rage Against The Machine)

The Ramones were more or less the closest that American punk got to that early British punk ethos of rebelling against stodgy conformity, but most of the American scene had more in line with the pretentious anarcho-douchebags from Crass than The Sex Pistols or even Siouxsie.

GG Allin was a terrible musician, but he was one hell of a showman who gleefully blurred the line between massive lolcow and master troll, so I'll give him some props for his sheer audacity.

Punks as a general rule tend to be extremely pretentious and with an unwarranted sense of elitism, prone to purity spirals and conformity disguised as "non-conformity" and in many ways were proto-SJW's. The "dangerhair" look is basically the clueless 2010's affectation of old punk fashion and punk aesthetics.

Always remember that Antifa emerged from the hardcore punk scene in the 1980's, at least in North America.

The worst part of all this is that the pop culture narrative sort of lionized punk rock as this revolutionary innovative thing and more or less enshrined it as a sort of orthodoxy, especially when championing the death of disco in 1980 or the death of hair metal/rise of Grunge in the early 90's.

I honestly think the death of rock music in the mainstream and the rise of pretentious indie music in the 2010's can be at least partially connected to punk rock and its lionization by Gen X and the Early Millennials if you really look a little deeper.

The only reason why hip-hop fully supplanted rock in the mainstream during the late 2000's/2010's was because it was already popular alongside rock and the rise of the indie snob and typical Punk and Alternative pretentiousness killed rock for good, leaving no real competition.

Even in the late 90's/early 2000's, rock and hip-hop more or less fully co-existed in the mainstream scene even if they were in slightly different mainstream niches.

K-Pop stans are the most bugfuck insane and Juggalos are probably the most cringe of music fandoms, but when it comes to music subcultures, none have been more downright awful and undeservedly celebrated in my opinion than punk.

Punk rock only really worked in its initial context of reacting to the stodgy and stuck-up society of 1970's Britain, and had it remained a mostly British phenomenon for the Late Boomer/Early Gen X'er crowd, it probably wouldn't have gotten as bad as it eventually did.

The Goth scene of the 80's was the most genuine continuation of that spirit in my opinion, and I think it says a lot when the earliest Goths in 1979-1980 were initially referred to as "positive punks" because they rejected the hyper-political anarchist direction punk was ultimately heading towards.
I agree, the "punk rock" that you are talking about doesn't even exist in 2020 outside T shirts at mall boutiques

I honestly don't care for them and I think they're overrated as fuck, despite being part of that first cohort of 70's British punk bands.

I do know they were fairly left-wing and one of the more political early British punk bands even if they weren't quite as extreme about it as Crass was.
The Clash was pretty much the Sex Pistols if they had practiced and listened to their manager(s)

Adult Disney fans are the fucking worst.
I was listening to Sheriff Grady Judge give one of those press conferences where he was breaking down the recent arrests and convictions of people recently involved in cp, child molestation, etc, and I was really surprised how many people that were employed by Disney made the list.

Back when he was still popular, Marilyn Manson had some real trash in his wake.

Granted, small sample size here because I shared an apartment with a coven of them, but they were all the same. Thought his edginess was genuine, that they were the vanguard of the future generation for "rejecting society, man!" and that he was the most important figure of the 20th Century. He was clung to by the last generation that could really get a rise out of thier parents with nose piercings and black eyeliner. And I'm talking "Maybe Johnny needs an intervention?" kind of a rise, not "There goes Johnny again with his cadaver-makeup, well, i'ts only because he can't wear it while on the clock at Sam's Club" kind. The last of the 90's teen rebels upset that their rebellion had gone unnoticed.... whose idea of edgy was a black T-shirt that said "CAUTION SHARP EDGES" and when nobody flinched, they just assumed we were too IGNORANT to understand we were being prodded..

They were also proto-SJW in their inability to articulate WHY or have ANY patience for those who disagreed....

MANSON IS THE ULTIMATE EVOLUTION OF HUMANITY!

Uh, how?

BECAUSE HIS MUSIC IS REVOLUTIONARY!

In what way?

*sigh* It's NOT my job to teach you, if you can't see it, you're just too DUMB! Just go back to your job you useless corporate drone! It's a good thing your kind are going to be purged some day...

BTW - Of that group, last I heard, one was in jail and the rest are forever couch-surfing to stay ahead of creditors.
Marylyn Manson was a HUGE Rozz Williams dick-rider back in the day of S. Cal goth and he pretty much cut and pasted Rozz's entire "schitck" after he died
