I'm curious as to what this will do for those who have already been diagnosed as having Asperger's Syndrome. Do changes to the DSM also retroactively affect diagnoses that people have received? I have a good friend who has Asperger's, and it seems odd to say that come May he won't have it anymore. That's not how it would work, is it?

On the subject of Chris' reaction: yeah, I would imagine he would be happy about it. In the old days we would maybe have gotten a video of him gloating about it. Now, maybe we can hope for a Facebook status if he somehow manages to hear the news.

Chris doesn't follow current events, and he hasn't even demonstrated a solid understanding of what autism even is, much less who has it and who doesn't.

I'm assuming if Chris does hear this, he will not understand the details and just be happy about the title. It doesn't explain that aspergers will become one and the same as autism until the later paragraphs. Just thought that this might boost his ego a little, even if he closed his mind to it long ago. If something goes right for him it should cause some unwarranted self importance.

Not always, but for a while. If Chris was a child born recently and diagnosed today instead of back in the late 80's, he almost certainly would have been diagnosed with aspergers, and then he'd be praising it instead of cursing it.
