The ending of this series was terrible and I can't blame any fans for trying to make a better fanfic (hell I wish this was more common, imagine a well-written group effort fanfic for ASOIAF), but I can't help but think that the AOT Requiem people are going to go too far in the opposite direction, making Eren into some super-deep edgy Chad character, instead of a traumatized teenager desperately trying to do what he thinks is right. There has to be a middle ground between "pathetic simp who just wanted to fuck his stepsister" and "genocidal maniac who makes cool poses". Either way though, no matter what they do, I don't think it could possibly be worse than what Isayama wrote, so I'm enjoying it so far.

I do agree that it is admirable they just made a group effort to make some sort of effort fanfic instead of making dumb petitions.

However, I do think they will go in the opposite direction as I have little faith in them based in the first chapter and how they come across as pseudo-intellectuals who sniff their own ass. Doesn't help the people they are catering too are the dumbest/worst part of the Attack on Titan fanbase

They didn't go back to the beginning, and try to fix that. No, they just rewrote the part that let's their husbando come out on top in the end. That's it.

That's just further proof that they're only doing it because they're mad Eren got utterly rekt, even though he totally deserved it, and his utterly spectacular downfall is by far one of the best things in the entire series. They don't even try to make him sympathetic. They just portray him as the edgy, "cool", genocidal "Chad" they thought he was until Isayama pulled the rug out from under them.

They're nothing, but pissed off fangirls. They're acting just like scorned women suffering from a bad case of hybristophilia, and a heavily bruised ego. They're mad that Isayama made a fool of the husbando, and subsequently themselves, and now they're doing anything, and everything to try and fix their wounded pride.

Pretty much these people thought everything was perfect until Eren began losing.

It's not as though like in hindsight it's obvious Isayama wanted to write about some characters he grew attached too (like Reiner, Zeke, and Gabi) and wanted to do anything to make his Rumbling idea work even if it's ass backward (making all the politicians in AOT's world act retarded, make everyone outside super racist, and have Eren be mysterious for his evil stupid plan).

But nah it's clear the editor forced Isayama to change the ending to make Eren be a cuck simp incel who let down his real love interest Historia and his real best friend Floch to make Eren not patriotic anymore (that's what they tell themselves anyway)

Rewriting all of the last half though is a way bigger hurdle than just discarding the very last chapter. I think there's another fanfic comic that actually starts rewriting and redrawing stuff all the way back to chapter 126 to fix stuff like the Annie pie eating scene.

Are the deepest form of writing to ever exist and that killing everyone while being vaguely sad about it while living with your off-screen love interest and off-screen child is extremely deep writing.

I imagine this Eren saying this in a bored monotone, between smoking blunts or in his half-conscious mumble about "slaughtering the Titans" in Season 1 of the anime.

To play devil’s advocate, it would require IMMENSE effort to go back and actually fix the core issues with the story. What they’re aiming for is 4-5 chapter’s worth of content to replace the ending, which is what, 200 pages? That’s still a monumental undertaking, but it’s at least limited in scope - I can’t imagine going back through the manga and trying to retcon bits and pieces of other chapters to make everything fit and flow better - and who the hell is actually going to bother reading “Attack on Titan, but some chapters have some pages and dialog swapped out”?
