Maybe I'm more willing to go along with something but I was completely onboard until 139. I remember at the time thinking "how in the world are he going to end this in one chapter" and the answer was he couldn't. I think even outside the idiotic PATHS stuff, there was a way to make the story work even if Eren doesn't wipe out all of humanity. You can still have the Avengers win. You just need to have a really idioticish Geass like optimistic ending where you kill Eren and make peace with the nations and whatever as Paradis promises to work with the world never to use its powers again and forms an alliance with the fake Japanese nation to show their commitment to peace or whatever. Stupid but at least gives you an out.

The ending is so bad because it does this weird middle ground. Yay, we made peace with the world and were able to save 20% at least. But also the Paradis leadership is turning into a fascist militaristic government preparing for war. That's the inconsistency. I think the series obviously has a ton of problems but the writer had just picked one (Eren wins, wipes out all of humanity so that Paradis can take over the world) or the other (Eren loses thanks to alliance united in love and brotherhood to defeat him and usher in a generation of peace and understanding), we'd at least get something that was at least an ending with a theme and some closure even if hard to believe and overly optimistic in the case of the Truth and Understanding Ending or just plain depressing and problematic for all sorts of political reasons in the 100% Death Ending. But we got something in the middle that just leaves everyone confused.

Grisha: Abused the fuck out of his first child, and then killed the royal family because his second child told him to. Also, didn't seem to care too much that his second child murdered two people at the age of eight. He also turned his son into a Titan shifter that eventually became the downfall of their race, and most of the rest of the world.

Rod: Tried to use his daughter as puppet, and then kill her when she refused. Then turned into a giant, fatass titan that couldn't even walk, and tried to kill everyone, but failed miserably.

Erwin's Dad: The other primary reason besides stupidity that Erwin is such a terrible commander.

Sasha's Dad: Literally blamed his daughter for her own death after she joined the military to make him proud, and then adopted the person that killed her.

King Fritz I: Tried to kill an eight-year-old girl for letting out some pigs, and then made her his wife/sex-slave/war-machine. Then he made their children cannibalize her dead body after she got killed. Or maybe not. I don't know what's canon anymore.

Farmer-kun: Threw rocks at his wife when they were kids, and that's literally all we know about him.

Jean: Meh for the most part, but then really drop the ball late into the series by just not even attempting to care about Mikasa's suffering at all during the last arc. Like, I know there was other more important she going on, but come on, dude. You cared more about Connie more than you did the girl you were supposedly in love with.

To be fair he wasn't exactly blaming Sasha but rather the whole system of war and he didn't want more kids to get involved in it. It should've been better but he's probably the only good dad in Attack in Titan compared to everyone else.

Also I wanted to come to this thread to mention this but I told some people who were not familiar with the series beyond the first 2 seasons about the whole ending fiasco and they were bewildered at what the fuck had happened especially with all the worldbuilding not being as interesting with the modern WWII shit thrown in. But they were most shocked that Levi survived the series and thought he would've died due to cheap shock factor. Both were relieved to not get further invested because of the "Erenfags" who have never moved on from the series like normal adults when they see a bad ending.

But yo, I actually used to be a part of the writers AOTnoRequiem team, and as far as I’ve seen, all of members check out as being not sexpest-y and things pretty much are very chill in there and there hasn’t been any infighting so far!
I don’t speak much for them because I quit due to life.

AOTNR is defo more of a passion project, and a lot of news outlets have been kiiiiiinda soiling that with their misreporting of us “fixing the ending” when it’s more of like, “alternative ending that some would have liked.” Even tho admittedly some members were all like “oH we’rE fIxinG thE ending LOL” and mocking about how it was really canon, they pretty much got weeded out and/or shut up once things cracked down and became more professional!
The doujin defo isn’t for everyone, but it’s quite interesting to watch it unfold in all honesty. But that’s just me having some bias after working with the team for a little bit, because they’re actually pretty great people and it’s an interesting mix between Farmslike humor, but American left wing political views.

If you want a real retarded group of edge lords for the ending, Operation Ursurper, which has probably been spoken of a few times, are your typical yeagerist cringe, as you could probably tell from the “Floch-shoots-Kiyomi” scene.
Fun fact a lot of people don’t know about, Someone from OPUrsurper joined the AOTNR team and then threatened to leak the script all over Reddit as a joke, it was a situation that took awhile to get resolved but it’s pretty much believed that the incident happened because of bitterness since the quality of the two projects is kind of prevalent.

But yeah, AOT sucks now and honestly, no alternative fanmade ending is ever gonna change the real one.
All those themes thrown away for cheap romances with no build and honestly, chapter 139 wouldn’t have been all that bad if only they changed some of the dialogue and canned the asspull that was the Ymir/Fritz-Mikasa/Eren parallels that never existed in the first place. Plus, it would have been more in character for Eren to break down over killing his own mother and letting out the guilt of killing all those people instead of turning into a weird incel dude.

RIP AOT, you’re back to being the laughing stock you were in the early years.

It was clear with the timeskip, Isayama only had two priorities

Writing characters he likes since I'll give him credit that some of his character writing was pretty good in the timeskip however it came at the cost of the plot where his other priority was making sure the rumbling arc happened no matter how dumb the steps to get there was (i.e. Eren's retarded powers, all the competent characters being gimped, and the insanely shit worldbuilding that takes away what made AOT interesting).

Also I hate to compare this to WWII since the WWII equivalent of AOT would be that every country in the world hates Israel and the leader of germany was an openly Rich Jew adored by everyone and then Israel nukes everybody after a declaration of war.
