Audio or transcripts? -

The "audio of Clyde Cash" thread made me realize that I've never actually listened to any of the communications with Clyde in them: only read the transcripts that the CWCki provides. In fact, outside of the Father Call, some Kacey and Alec calls, and Bob Walks In, I haven't listened to any of the recordings on the CWCki at all, only read transcripts. I haven't watched a Chris video (except the recent leaks) in some time, either, because I can't justify to myself listening through Chris' voice - and taking several minutes to do so - when I have other (equally worthless) thinks to do with my time.

So here's my question: how much do you make a point to listen to audio of Chris-related media vs. reading transcripts? Are there any auditory media you absolutely cannot stand because of the subject matter or the voices of the people involved or whatever? How important do you think it is to listen to audio of certain recordings (like the Father Call and the Alec calls, and some of the more famous Chris videos) versus gleaning all your knowledge from the (admittedly extremely helpful) transcripts?

I had all the Alec calls and all the finale Kacey calls on my iPod. Just great listens when you have a boring 25 minute ferry and a liquor room to stock and organize.

I say "had" because my iPod broke and went under mutiny, if I lived in the United States, I could get it fixed, but nope.

I often read transcripts. To wax on something I always mention, I cannot stand Kacey's voice, tone, or demeanor. Some calls take way too long to get anywhere, some are just plain annoying, so the transcripts crunch down the info and makes it bearable.

Some of the recordings are reminiscent of the mailbag in that they're people conversing with Chris and in the process, constantly tweaking him and getting him to flip out. The mailbags were hilarious, but I think hearing Chris flip out might be a bit funnier because you can hear the emotion in his voice as it happens.

But yeah, some recordings might be more casual conversations with Chris, less humor. Or, maybe it's just more subtle humor. Some people find Chris himself to be amusing all on his own.

I always read the transcripts just because it's quicker to read, and because I struggle to get past Chris's voice. If one of you guys says something has to be heard to be believed, or if there's a note in the transcripts that I can't easily imagine, I'll listen, but that's pretty rare.

Even divorced of his personality or anything he's actually saying, I don't think I could deal with Chris's voice. It sets my teeth on edge.

I've listened to a couple of recordings but I mostly stick to transcripts because Chris's voice irritates me.

I have to listen to the Audio because when I read some of the shit Chris says it seems so unbelievable that someone could be so dumb and I have to hear it myself.

Dude, the Father Call? Kacey and Liquid Call? Those are comedy GOLD. Yes, Chris is an annoying chubby bastard with a voice like a harpy, but listening to him get all worked up and shout is pretty great. Anytime I have a solo road trip, fuck the radio, I listen to Chris calls on my phone.

Huh.

More people find Chris' voice more grating than I would've thought (or, well, he's definitely annoying, but I'm surprised at how many find him close to unlistenable). I guess I have a different perspective because I was present when these recordings were happening. I was hanging onto every word and I was contributing things to say in real time in the chat in mumble.

Although, even though I can understand why Lars is annoying to people, I have always loved him. His call is a barrel of laughs. Chris is talking to a TV cliche, essentially a cartoon. It's like he's talking to a Sonic parody and actually believing he's talking to Sonic.

When I'm just looking to find solid quotes or explanations I'll stick to the transcripts. Although some of the shit he says seems even more outlandish when you hear the smug or matter-of-fact tone in his voice. His voice doesn't bug me too much, I just don't like hearing him interrupt himself with "y'know" 6 times in a row before he even manages a coherent sentence.

Oh dont get me wrong, i like the Lars character, it brought about alot of funny moments. Its just hard listening to the recordings, he just sounds annoying and a parody. Ofcourse thats just extra LOL, because you got Chrissy hook, line and sinker.

That's just something that should have happened back in the days. Chrissys favorite characters calling him. He did think that imaginary characters lived in world of their own, including all of CWCville, so it would have been possible.

Well, Chris says one thing and thinks another. Theoretically, Chris says he supports the cartoon world idea because it's simple and in Chris' retard logic, doesn't clash with his understanding of reality. But he would still be pretty surprised if he was exposed to the logical conclusions of his ideas, that he could actually meet the cartoon characters he's claiming are actually real in some fantasy world somewhere.

I read the transcripts because I have this weird thing about watching awkward people be awkward. Like the kind where you want to reach through the screen and go "Stop it, everyone is laughing and you look like an idiot!" It's why I've never been able to sit through a Steve Carell movie.

I guess I really haven't given him enough credit, after all, it was his idea to get Chris to drink Kahlua, something that's inspired me so much.

I'd say audio because I can do other things while listening. I once cleaned and reorganized my room to the Father Call. I have a trip ahead of me so I may download some audio for the ride.
I have a soft spot for the Kacey calls. I know a lot of people don't like her because of her voice and acting, but to me it makes it all the funnier.
But I will say I prefer transcripts when I'm looking for something certain, like something referenced on another article.

Transcripts are very handy, but I like to listen to the original audio/video stuff. Kacey wasn't that bad, the only dramaperson whose voice I found really grating was Julie (granted, I guess that was meant to be a deliberately unconvincing performance by BlueSpike). And I just couldn't get through the Videobooks, those were Chris's lowest hour both from video production and voice-work point of view.

Usually the transcripts were fine for me. I listened to the Father Call because I was curious how "Matthew" sounded. Also the Alec calls felt like a 3am point counterpoint talk radio segment, so I cleaned my apartment to them.
The Lars Call was new at the time so I listened to that, I transcribed a little and said fuck it and wrote the summary instead.

The audio is what I prefer, but I'll go back to the transcripts and check if there is something that I'm not sure I heard correctly. To be completely honest though, I'll put them on as background noise if I'm not in the mood for music. Many a time I've gotten my place immaculate while listening to the Father, Alec and Lars calls.

As long as the audio features Matthew Devoria's heroic voice, or Alec's dominating tone, I'm happy as long as its not Clyde's whimpy, poorly articulated voice.
