    from the article:

The teenage girl had the attention of Austin Jones — a YouTube sensation whose music videos have been viewed millions of times.

They were chatting on Facebook. She was 14. Roughly a decade younger than Jones.

She told him she was his biggest fan. And he told her to “prove” it.

Now, Jones, 24, is in federal custody and facing two counts of production of child pornography. The charges could land him in prison for at least 15 years. He looked scared and timid as he was led into a courtroom Tuesday in the Dirksen Federal Courthouse. A judge is expected to decide whether Jones remains in federal custody during a Wednesday hearing.

The singer, who lives in Bloomingdale, was arrested Monday at O’Hare Airport. His Twitter account indicates he was on an international tour. U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael Mason repeatedly told him during a brief hearing that he would have to pay for his own attorney. It was not clear Tuesday night if he had hired one.

Jones’ music is described online as “earnest, emo-influenced melodic pop music.” The feds noted that his primary fan base appears to be “teenage girls.”

Last month, Jones reportedly acknowledged that he had “conversations online with girls that would involve me asking them to create a video of themselves twerking.” He added that “I NEVER asked them to do anything more than send a twerking video.”

But a criminal complaint revealed Tuesday describes Jones taking full advantage of his fame to pressure young girls to expose themselves.

One girl made videos through Facebook for Jones on May 4. She called it an “audition.” Though she told him she “might pass out” and was tired from doing what he asked, Jones allegedly pressed her to “work really hard.” During their Facebook exchange, she allegedly acknowledged Jones was 24. And at his request, she repeatedly said in the video she was “only 14,” the feds say.

That victim sent Jones 15 videos, including 10 videos of her exposing herself, according to the complaint. Jones allegedly told her what to wear, how to dance and how to adjust the camera “so I can see you from head to toe.”

In a chat in August with another victim, Jones allegedly acknowledged the girl was 14 and that he was 23 at the time. He allegedly asked her to “prove” she was his biggest fan and that, if she was “lucky,” she would get to perform a sex act on him.

The feds said the girl sent him 25 videos, including eight of her exposing her genitals.

After his arrest, Jones admitted requesting and receiving videos from the victims, and he admitted it was for sexual pleasure, according to the complaint.

Singer and YouTube sensation Austin Jones has been arrested on charges of child pornographyafter allegedly asking underage female fans to send him videos of a sexually explicit nature. The Bloomingdale, Illinois native, who boasts over 500,000 subscribers on YouTube and 300,000 followers on Instagram, appeared in a Chicago federal court on Tuesday and said he understood the charges, which the Chicago Sun Times says are two counts of production of child pornography carrying a minimum 15-year prison sentence.
According to a video posted by Jones back in June 2015, Jones admitted to "conversations online with girls that would involve me asking them to create a video of themselves twerking," adding that he "NEVER asked them to do anything more than send a twerking video."
Tuesday's criminal complaint, however, alleges otherwise. In August 2016 and May 2017, the complaint reportedly details incidents with two underage girls. Specifically, the document claims one of the girls sent the 24-year-old YouTuber 15 different videos, ten of which included her exposing herself and following Jones' specific instructions of what to wear, how to dance, and how to position the camera. She was allegedly caught on video saying she "might pass out," as well as repeatedly saying she was "only 14."
In another instance, Jones allegedly told a 14-year-old fan via chat to "prove" she was his biggest fan, prompting her to send him over 25 videos, eight of which included her exposing her genitals. He reportedly said that if she was "lucky," she could perform a sex act on him.
After Jones was arrested on Monday at O'Hare airport, Jones admitted to both requesting and receiving the videos, as well as to the fact that it was for sexual pleasure. Jones will remain in federal custody until his hearing on Wednesday.

  4. http://people.com/crime/austin-jones-arrested-5-things/

YouTube singer Austin Jones was arrested this week and charged with two counts of producing child pornography after he allegedly had two 14-year-old female fans send him sexually explicit videos over social media.

Jones, 24, is accused of soliciting one of the teens last August and the other in May — instructing them on what to wear, what to say and what to do in the videos deemed child pornography, according to federal court documents obtained by PEOPLE.

He was arrested at Chicago’s O’Hare airport on Monday. He plans to plead not guilty to his charges, according to his attorney.

Here are five things to know about the case.

    1. Jones Has Hundreds of Thousands of Online Followers
Jones, who first joined YouTube in July 2007, has more than half a million of subscribers to his channel, which mostly features a capella and acoustic covers of hit songs. His most popular video has been viewed more than 5 million times.

On Twitter, Jones has 225,000 followers and describes himself as an “alfredo boy” and “emo-acapella” vocalist. He has shared multiple photos from his shows, which appear to attract a largely young, female audience.

According to the criminal complaint against him, filed Tuesday in Illinois federal court, Jones allegedly “used Facebook and Apple’s iMessage service to request and receive videos depicting the genitalia of minor females, knowing that they were only 14 or 15 years old.”

In the videos, which were sent through Facebook messenger, Jones allegedly told the victims to twerk — a kind of dancing — and expose their butts and repeat how old they were, in the course of which they also showed their genitals, the complaint shows.

The documents detail his alleged interactions with two victims, in 2016 and 2017, when they were 14.

Jones’ Facebook profile was deactivated after his arrest, though it’s unclear by whom. His Instagram, Twitter and YouTube accounts are still online.

According to the complaint, in May, Facebook deactivated an earlier account of Jones’ around May 15 because of the alleged child pornography.

About two weeks later, Jones made a YouTube video titled “I NEED YOUR HELP” addressing his account’s deactivation but blaming it on copyright issues. He directed fans to a new Facebook account he created.

“If you’ve got a few minutes extra in your day and you really want to help me out, you can invite some of your friends to like the Facebook page,” Jones tells viewers in the video.

    2. Jones Recently Began Touring Internationally
This summer, before his arrest, Jones toured around the world with other social media artists. He has released two albums and several singles, including his covers of other songs.

In July, Jones performed in Germany and Poland with duo Bars and Melody and Johnny Orlando.

    3. Similar Accusations Date Back to 2015
The child porn charges against Jones come approximately two years after he faced controversy online for allegedly similar behavior with female fans, which he dismissed at the time (and was not charged).

According to an Alternative Press article in May 2015, Jones was accused of lying about his age so girls would send him videos of them twerking. An online petition in 2015 made similar claims. Damon Fizzy, a fellow YouTuber and social media personality, spoke out about the allegations against Jones in 2015 and reportedly encouraged people to share their stories.

In a statement and video he released in 2015 in response to the scandal, Jones said he had asked his fans for “twerking videos” — but nothing more.

“It’s not something that I’m proud of, it’s not something that I think is right, and I shouldn’t have done it,” he said in the video, which was titled “Setting The Record Straight.”

Following Jones’ arrest this week, Fizzy took to Twitter, writing, “I can’t even express how happy I am that Austin Jones is finally being stopped and his actions are no longer being defended.”

“Two years ago when I called Austin Jones out, I was told I’d receive jail time, I’d be responsible if he killed [himself], got kicked off tour. …” he continued,” It’s crazy the backlash I received versus now. I was literally treated worse than the person who uses his underage fans for sexual gain.”

    4. Jones Allegedly Told Teen to Send Him Videos to ‘Prove’ She Was a Fan
Jones allegedly knew the age of the victims and repeatedly discussed it with both of them in the course of instructing them on what to send him, according to the criminal complaint.

The documents show that with the first victim, Jones allegedly described their interaction as an “opportunity” and a “try out” and referred to giving her videos a “score.”

“Talk about your age the whole time,” he told her at one point, the complaint claims. “Got it?”

In August, Jones and another 14-year-old girl, identified in the complaint as Victim B, allegedly communicated through Facebook chat for two days. The pair talked about how young she was and how much she liked his music, the complaint states.

According to the documents, Jones allegedly repeatedly told her that she was “so lucky” to have his attention. After one video, he allegedly responded, “in the next one, you have to prove you’re my biggest fan. I know you can do it!”

“How amazing that would be for you!! To have your favorite singer spanking your a–!” he allegedly wrote to her at one point. “If you’re lucky, maybe I’d let you suck my d—.”

Victim B sent Jones approximately 25 videos of her dancing, the complaint claims. In approximately eight of them, she is exposing herself from the waist-down.

“Bounce again and smile at the camera while you bounce. And while you bounce, say ‘I’m only 14’ three times throughout the video,” Jones allegedly instructed the girl, who at times was hesitant.

    5. Defense Attorney: ‘He’s a Scared Young Man’
If convicted, Jones faces a minimum sentence of 15 years in federal prison. His attorney says he plans to plead not guilty.

“He’s a scared young man,” his attorney, Gerardo S. Gutierrez, tells PEOPLE.

Jones appeared in court on Thursday for a bond hearing, where a judge ordered him released pending trial, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. However, Jones must remain at his home 24 hours a day and was barred from using the Internet, including social media.

According to the Sun-Times, Jones’ mother will act as his third-party guardian.

  5. It's never their fault. They're always a "victim of circumstance" or "mommy/daddy/someone loved me too much/didn't love me enough/loved me the wrong way" or any other excuse they can think up to dodge accountability for their actions. This sick fuck is coercing young girls into behavior totally unsuitable for them so he can get his rocks off, but he's the REAL victim in all this because a family member died. Guys like Austin are just like drug addicts who excuse away their behavior by saying their addiction is a "sickness". It isn't their fault because they're really just sick. You wouldn't blame someone with cancer for being sick, right?

  9. This made me feel physically ill.

People like Austin are predators. If they have the chance to exploit someone, they will take it. I didn't read the actual chat logs (that's too much for me), but Phillip De Franco read some excerpts in his report of the incident that really stuck out to me:

    Screen Shot 2017-06-16 at 1.07.52 PM.jpg Screen Shot 2017-06-16 at 1.08.04 PM.jpg Screen Shot 2017-06-16 at 1.08.16 PM.jpg Screen Shot 2017-06-16 at 1.08.37 PM.jpg Screen Shot 2017-06-16 at 1.09.01 PM.jpg Screen Shot 2017-06-16 at 1.09.21 PM.jpg Screen Shot 2017-06-16 at 1.09.30 PM.jpg Screen Shot 2017-06-16 at 1.10.14 PM.jpg

Every single time the girl tries to back out of something or refuses to do something exactly the way Austin wants it, he lays on the manipulation. "I guess you really aren't my biggest fan," "You're not good enough to give me a boner," "You're so lucky to have my attention," etc. He knows exactly how to manipulate a child to give him what he wants. This is what makes pedophiles/child molesters so dangerous and repulsive; they shamelessly use and abuse vulnerable children just to get their own rocks off. It's the absolute worst kind of selfishness.

The silver lining in all of this is that Austin is fucked, to say the least. He can't pull the "I swear she told me she was 18" card, because he told one of his victims to repeatedly say "I'm only fourteen" while she was filming herself. Not only that, he was very explicit in directing the CP (meaning, he wasn't just a passive observer). He's going away for a long time.

  20. Seems this story just broke out yesterday, and I'd never heard of this guy before. Apparently he was a mildly famous YT celebrity who did cover videos of "boy band" songs a la Justin Bieber and the Jonas Brothers and developed a tween girl fanbase.

Apparently back in 2015, several underage girls accused him of being a creep and started a Change.org petition to get him removed from the Van’s Warped Tour, but at that time the cops only had evidence of him requesting twerking videos, and therefore there was nothing straight-up illegal to charge him with.

Now apparently more victims have come forward with evidence of him requesting actual nudes or CP, and he's been busted by the cops. One of the victims also apparently shared this "instructional" video he sent her regarding one of his creepy twerking requests, which he then harassed her begging for her to delete it, even threatening possible suicide:

Following his arrest Tuesday, a cappella singer Austin Jones was revealed as the Anthony Weiner of YouTube, except even creepier, and far more harmful.

Jones is being charged with two counts of child pornography after requesting and receiving nude videos of underage fans, according to The Chicago Sun Times. The court filing details a disturbing correspondence between two 14-year-old girls, where he taught them how to twerk and then cajoled them into sending progressively more explicit videos. He made them say things like “this butt is only 14” as they danced on camera naked, according to court filings.

A screenshot of the court filing.
But this story was not surprising to a number of girls who blew the whistle on Jones’ creepy behavior in 2015. For years, Jones, 24, has been messaging his underage female fans and using his modest YouTube fame to get them to make twerking videos, using the same modus operandi every time.

Austin Jones has been making YouTube videos for about four years and has over 500,000 subscribers. He covers popular alternative rock songs by bands like My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy, making a cappella versions by recording himself singing various portions of the song then playing each video simultaneously in a Hollywood Squares layout.

His YouTube fame allowed him to recently launch an international tour, playing a show in Berlin earlier this month.

Jones was first exposed as a creep in 2015 after a number of women posted screen shots on Twitter of conversations and videos he had sent them. At the time, none of the requests or videos contained nudity. A popular YouTuber named Damon Fizzy helped share their stories and increase visibility. A Change.org petition compiling the accusations got Jones kicked off the Van’s Warped Tour.

But after the dust settled, Jones career flourished.

In 2014, Taylor, 18, was propositioned by Jones to make twerking videos.

“I was 15 and was super excited this moderately famous asshole was messaging me on Facebook,” she said. “I didn’t have the mental capacity to know this was fucked up.”

She first reached out to Jones, who was 21 at the time, after he posted a message about how he was depressed on his Facebook page. She told him to cheer up and he responded telling her she was attractive. She told him she was 15 right away, but soon he asked her to make a twerking video for her.

Taylor refused and Jones offered to send an “instructional video” (below) in order to teach her how, which she later posted online.

Luckily for Taylor, she ended the conversation there, but many young girls did not.

Jones kept a mechanically consistent formula for soliciting videos. He first would reply to one of the hundreds of girls messaging him on social media. He asked for the girl’s age and then requested a video. To convince the fan, he’d send her an instructional video of himself twerking. If that didn’t work he would try to guilt trip her, telling her how lucky she is he was talking to her out of all his thousands of fans. Then if that didn’t work, he’d bring up his mental health, citing depression or thoughts of suicide, telling her that these videos are the only thing that could make him happy.

Once he lured a girl in, he requests she wear Ugg boots, a tank top and short shorts, then to tell him her age on camera as she twerks.

It is unknown how many girls gave Jones videos. There’s about ten who came forward about propositions on social media, and the two he’s being charged for soliciting nude videos.

Ashley Bermudez, 16, was only 13 when Jones reached out to her in 2014. She has an almost identical story to Taylor and also did not send Jones any twerking videos of herself.

“It started out as a normal conversation,” Ashley said. “He asked me about my hobbies, then asked if I like dancing, then asked if I like twerking.”

Ashley told him she was uncomfortable, and he replied “I gave you my iMessage, isn’t that enough” implying a personal contact line was enough of a payment for the video. He also sent her an instructional video of how to twerk.

Jones contacted the girls and begged them to delete the videos. He told Taylor he checked into a psyche ward because of the response he was getting for getting called out. Ashley said on Twitter that he called her 87 times and she posted one of the messages.

Some of Jones’ most ardent fans harassed his accusers online, saying they were making it up and doing it to get attention, but the videos speak for themselves.

Jones was removed from the lineup of Van’s Warped Tour, following public outcry. He eventually made a public statement, saying he never requested any nude videos from his fans.

To my friends, fans and family,

I wanted to explain why I’ve been off of social media and have taken a break from my music.

I’ve been in therapy, seeking help to discover why I communicated with my fans in a way that I have come to fully realize was not appropriate.

I’d have conversations online with girls that would involve me asking them to create a video of themselves twerking. Sometimes I’d make videos of myself doing some twerk moves in return.

Here’s the truth: I NEVER asked them to do anything more than send a twerking video. Nothing EVER went beyond that.

According to Taylor and Ashley, some of the other parents attempted to get the police involved, but the cops did not think the twerking videos themselves constituted a sex crime.

It took a full two years before Jones was finally brought to justice for his behavior towards his underage fans.

“When Jones finally got arrested, at first I thought thank god,” Taylor said. “Then I got hung up on how he could have gotten stopped two years ago, two years of victims prevented, if they believed us the first time.”
