"Autistic" Tumblr- Self-Diagnosing 'tards might be on the mark for once. -

So I noticed we didn't have a thread about Tumblrinas as a whole claiming to have autism and are part of the "autism community." We have threads of big lolcows who also claimed autism, but that is not nearly their focus much of the time.

Now, we know Tumblrtards are prone to lying and self diagnosing shit, so it's a fair bet to say most of them don't have the mental issues they claim... or they are using it as an excuse for completely unrelated behavior, if they do have what they claim.

One of their tags.

A blog of miscellaneous problems and wanks all supposedly caused by autism.

A fun example from the above blog: because non-autistics clearly don't ever piss people this way.

The hypocrisy of the post- being asked how they don't know body language, yet understood body language from the gif to be a proper response. Clear they're faking.

Some entitled brat thinks the world should revolve around her needs.

Autistic Kitty- for all your whiny brat meme needs.

Another tag, about ABA therapy. Clearly, because the guy used some offensive terms back in the day, that clearly means all the techniques they're based on are worthless.

And the list goes on and on. It's kinda pathetic that they revolve their life around the autism label instead of doing something with their life. However, it's also really funny because it's so fucking stupid.

Alright, so most of these Tumblrinas are numbnuts who think that by saying they're actually autistic, that somehow makes their claim more valid and are claiming it because they're awkward and want to act like entitled shits instead of learning self-control. The tag, aside from one or two sane people, is filled with fucktards who think their awkward shit is autism.

Now, I don't mean that they actually have autism and shit (they don't, but that they're just so stupid that the only way to look at them is to go, "God, you're retarded/autistic/sperging out/etc.") Hell, they're probably offensive to actual autistics because of how much of spoiled brats they are.

Power level time:

Though I knew that they existed for years, the last straw was some dumbass Tumblrinas freaking out at me recently. I had a character who didn't share their sensibilities about ABA and they're the one who pestered the character blog in the first place. And I'd actually be stronger in opinion about it than said character due to actually understanding the theory behind it, though I did not bring that up because I know better than to engage potential lolcow material in such a manner. She doesn't seem to be full lolcow material, thus why she doesn't get a thread to herself.

It's also really funny because the person's over 30 and can't tell the difference between fictional characters having flaws and the author endorsing something or not. I didn't say jack shit about my position, which makes the whole mess even funnier for onlookers.

Said Tumblrinas were trying to claim ABA was abuse and that was equivalent to some sick fuck from history Bergler who abused his patients severely and routinely broke medical ethics.

For the uninitiated, ABA is a treatment used in autism and everything that is a legitimate source (read: not some self-dxing Tumblrtard with a shitty blog) makes it clear that it's the same techniques used by any parent, just slightly more structured for working with the developmentally delayed. Autism is classified as a developmental disability.

Now, the techniques are operant conditioning and classical conditioning. For the uninitiated, operant conditioning is learning that that actions have consequences and classical conditioning is associating things paired together. And it's a lot of scare-mongering anti-science bullshit. IE: "You're treating kids like dogs because that is also used in training dogs!" They're dumb shits who don't understand that such basic parts of learning theory apply to more than just humans and that using it on humans doesn't mean you're demeaning them.

It's actually kinda funny, because it's clear they don't want consequences for any of their shitty actions. Of course they'll hate operant conditioning. :P

Most of them think autism is only being socially awkward, shy, liking fandoms a whole lot, not being able to conduct yourself well in an argument, etc. There's a fuckton of other symptoms and a lot of them more noticeable in little kids, meaning if you're 20+ and just now deciding you must be autistic because you're "kin" to an anime character or you want sproutself pronouns, then you probably aren't.

I personally believe the vast majority of them have HPD.
There's a self-diagnosis cult for that, too, along with pretty much every other personality disorder under the sun. Critics tend to point out that the majority of them are teenagers, and their so-called "disorders" can't be reliably diagnosed at that age because teenagers are naturally irrational and emotionally fucked up.

Anyway, these guys are pretty much the offspring of the neurodiversity movement, and I believe they may actually be directly responsible for the massive growth of self-diagnosis fetishism on Tumblr (along with the "multiple system" nutters). Although I never had any close experiences with it, I recall hearing complaints from legitimately autistic bloggers that it had become a much less pleasant place to be and the self-diagnosers were driving them all out.

The way they pretend to have autism is some pretty cringeworthy shit on its own, but as you might expect, it's even more so if you're intimately familiar with the way it actually works. As much as they kick and scream about how "neurotypicals" are terrible and ruining autism rights forever, their idea of autism is pretty much the same as what you'd see from a parent or teacher who has only observed autism for a long time. They uniformly use cutesy coddling terms like "stimming" or "special interest" (which is also right out, by the way, if you know how autistic people tend to have their own -isms), and they put a massive emphasis on behaviors that are immediately obvious to other people, rather than the less visible internal machinations of their mind. When it comes to the point where they start buying plastic "stimming necklaces" and shit, it just starts looking like some extremely bizarre fetish roleplay.

The neurodiversity movement pisses me off so much. Yes, people have differences in their mental states. Yes, they should not be treated like garbage for aspects they cannot control (such as having depression) and having most disorders doesn't make you necessarily a danger to anyone else. (You instead just have to go through life with some extra bullshit to your pile.) No, that does not excuse you or make it a good thing if you do shitty things of your own free will. Your depression doesn't give you an excuse to ruin another person's life. Your autism doesn't give you the excuse to doxx random strangers who disagree with you. Etc.

And people who go on about how a cure = genocide miss the major point. A cure of a disorder would mean nobody else would have to suffer from it. And, depending on the cure, could alleviate the suffering of those who currently have a disorder. They'd still exist, they just don't have the fucking disorder anymore. It'd be like some retard back in the day going "having polio was a character building thing for me and affected my personality, therefore we shouldn't vaccinate everyone so people get polio." Even if you like yourself the way you are with a disorder, you have no right to insist that others don't seek a cure to things that cause serious pain for them. Were this shit physical disorders or diseases instead of mental disorders, people would be falling all over themselves to cure it.

Mental disorders are disorders and can disable you pretty badly. People who say otherwise have either deluded themselves or have never had a mental disorder, nor have had family members crippled by mental disorders. Hell, I was talking to a neutral friend about this mess and we're in agreement it's far more likely that they're all just a bunch of white knights and/or fakers. Especially with that stereotyping involved.

Though I did not know we had a thread for that "community" already. I searched, but I searched for Autism instead of Autistic. I'll go read through that because that looks fucking hilarious and infuriating at the same time. Hilarious because it's clear a good chunk of them are sheltered brats and infuriating because they don't know what they're talking about.

Edit: R e t a r d changes to "exceptional individual"? Interesting. :P

I'm glad someone else has noticed how creepy these people are. A lot of these Tumblr self diagnosers seem like they have an honest to god disability fetish. The extent of their "neuroatypicality" is that they are a bit socially awkward and they really like anime or whatever, but you find them buying products made for literal drooling tards like those stim toys and posting shit like "uwu here is a guide on how to use a toilet and wipe your ass if you struggle with it due to your autism!!" It's really fucked up and reminds me of adult babies a little

As an Autistic person myself, and one that is obviously so (and I do mean legitimate, professionally diagnosed Autism) who has been living with the condition my entire life, tumblr's fetishization and stereotyping of people on the Autism spectrum is fucking sickening and dehumanizing. The vast majority of these twats are probably neurotypical as fuck and probably overprivileged brats.

Trying to see this from their point of view, making autistic kids do things they don't want to do/denying them the things they derive pleasure from until earned is 'cruel' because maybe they don't understand why they aren't allowed certain things? But doesn't every kid go through that? Why should autism be any different? Would it not be better for these kids to have a shot at being relatively normal and possibly making something of themselves rather than becoming a complete outcast?

Was browsing tags linked in first post. First, this asshole, because autism is totally something you do. I also saw this girl--if you don't have the symptoms of autism, maybe you don't actually have it? Just an idea. This one gets a special emphasis for being in their 40s. This one needs to learn that Autism Spectrum Disorder is a f****** disorder, and abnormal. In case spoons are too mainstream, there are these. Finally, even a stopped sperg clock is right twice a day.

I was actually professionally diagnosed *gasps of horror*. It bothers me so much when I see the "OMG I'M SO HAPPYSTIMMING TO THIS MUSIC!" posts. If stimming means what I think it means, than stimming is me scratching myself bloody. It's banging my head against a wall to try to make sense of the world. It's not "Oh, I'm gonna go stim with my toy to the newest episode of Hannibal!"

Legit autistic people in that tag post about real issues related to autism like sensory stuff or medical stuff. The self diagnosign twats tend to have bitch posts about shit that annoys anybody not just autistic people. That's how I figure out who is being trendy and who is really autistic.

There was a post going around about how to trick your psychiatrist into diagnosing you with autism/other mental disorders.
Also, according to the tumbls, if you're against self diagnosing, you're scum for whatever reason.
Needless to say, that post pissed off a lot of people with severely autistic siblings, like the kind of autism where it REALLY impacts the functioning and all that, like where they can't speak or even perform some ADLs.
