Cheryl Toma Sanders and her husband Robert Reed Sanders were shot and killed last weekend. Sanders is best-known for her stunt work on movies such as Thor, Back to the Future 2, Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, and many more. The shootout happened on the property of a million dollar home near Yellow Springs, Ohio. The property belongs to Sanders' ex-husband who allegedly fatally shot his former Hollywood stunt woman ex-wife and her current husband for trespassing. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
Cheryl and Robert Reed Sanders allegedly ambushed her ex-husband Lindsay Duncan on his property with their own guns. According to the police report, Duncan was able to avoid being shot and acted in self-defense when he killed Cheryl and Robert. The report has listed the incident as "justifiable homicide." It is believed that Chery and Lindsay had a pretty rocky relationship after their marriage fell apart in 2009 after 10 years together. They had two children together and the incident was allegedly over gaining access to their children's college funds.
Chery Sanders started her career in martial arts back in the mid 1980s and then moved to Hollywood stunt work, which is when her career flourished. She would often perform stunts that others would turn down, which got her into some trouble on the set of Back to the Future Part II when a stunt went wrong. She fell 20 feet and the bones in her face, right arm, and hand were shattered when she hit the floor. This put a pretty big damper on her career for a few years.

Cheryl Sanders doubled for Rene Russo in The Thomas Crown Affair and the Lethal Weapon franchise. She did Kathleen Turner's stunts in V.I. Warshawski. After the Back to the Future 2 accident, Sanders went into a healthy lifestyle and became a celebrity spokeswoman, while still doing stunt work from time to time. Sanders also did stunt work on Batman & Robin, The Mask, and Charlie's Angels. Her last stunt job 2015's Dark Places starring Charlize Theron. Robert Reed Sanders was a licensed in real estate agent in Texas and allegedly had a criminal background, though the police would not elaborate further. The two were spotted on Lindsay Duncan's property by his camera system. Duncan has previously sued the couple for slander and libel.

Greene County investigators are still looking further into the shootout and how it happened. While money seems to have been the issue, there seems like there were a lot of other things going on at the same time. Hopefully some more information will come out in the coming weeks. For now, two daughters are now left without their mother after their father fatally shot her and their step dad. That does not sound like a comfortable spot to be in. The shootout news was first reported by the Dayton Daily News.

If only they'd been using stunt doubles :smug:

Here's a local news article with more info:
YELLOW SPRINGS, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) -- Lindsey and Molly Duncan spoke to reporters today at the Yellow Springs library, two days after two people were shot and killed outside their home on Grinnell Road.

Lindsey said the couple had just returned from a routine trip into Yellow Springs Thursday morning, Feb. 13, 2020, when hell began.

"All I remember was a 6-foot-something 6-foot-5 man, that was probably 230 pounds with a camo mask, a full camo mask and hoodie on, ran to my wife's driver's side with a gun, and held it about 10 inches from her head. And I thought it was a bad nightmare. I didn't know what to do. Whatever happened after that was instinct," Lindsey said.

Lindsey said they had stopped the car at their home's gate to get the mail and an Amazon package when they were "ambushed."

"I will tell you she (Molly) was in the middle of two separate gun battles, of bullets flying by her head, four inches, five inches, six inches by her, not one time but two separate times. And her being alive today, I'll never be able to explain that. And it wasn't one shot or two shots, it seemed like a hundred shots and there were shells everywhere. And that's all I can really say, and I've probably said too much but that's enough."

Dead are Cheryl Sanders, 59, and Robert R. Sanders, 56. They were married. Cheryl also had been married to Lindsey Duncan. They shared two college-aged children.

Molly also spoke about the shooting.

"I'm extremely thankful to be alive, and thankful my husband's alive. And he's my absolute hero, thank god he knew how to respond and stayed calm and knew exactly what to do and God was on our side that day, no question. And god orchestrated everything perfectly so we would survived," Molly Duncan said. "I'm a mother and I still get to see my kids grow up."

After the statement, which was initially not supposed to include questions, a reporter asked their attorney, Gregory Lind, about a rumor citing a friend of the deceased claiming they had gone there simply to talk to Lindsey about an educational trust fund.

Lindsey responded.

"With two weapons? With multiple clips that were loaded ... ski masks? The details of the investigation will come out," he said.

Sheriff Gene Fischer said Lindsey had called his office five years ago worried Cheryl was trying to kill him.

Dayton 24/7 Now Reporter Molly Reed found a lawsuit between the former couple from 2016.

Cheryl was a former celebrity stunt-woman and Lindsey is the founder of a nutrition supplement company.

Lindsey sued Cheryl for defamation, saying Cheryl breached contract and wrote a malicious letter about him and sent it to other supplement companies.

Lindsey said at the press conference that he and Cheryl have two daughter together and he had to bring them the news from Wednesday.

"The most difficult of this whole process besides listening to my wife say I'm going to die, they're going to kill me is having to tell my two daughters that their mother's been shot," he said.

Molly said there was no discussion between the couple before the shooting started and they don't know the motive.

"We were caught off guard and we said nothing, they started shooting at us," she said.

Lindsey added: "The sheriff issued the exact right word it was an absolute and total ambush."

The sheriff's office is also trying to find a motive right now. It says it's waiting for the BCI investigation to finish, the coroner's report, and also trying to get some security footage. It says there's still a lot of questions that need to be answered.

The couple was literally ambushed pulling up at home and they were lucky they weren't killed. They also contacted police worried that their ex was trying to kill them too as well.

Thats terrifying. There are some crazy exes out there. At least he was armed. If he wasn’t they’d be dead.

It's just weird feeling. Poor woman was having fun doing stunts until she almost died....then decades later she would end up murdered
I find it more tragic in how she was once a martial artist and stuntwoman who eventually turned to crime, and tried to kill her ex husband over money for their and his kids.

This feels like some No More Heroes/Tarantino/Toshinden shit right here. Sad to see how some warriors and martial artists venture down thug work, thinking that's the only way to get by in life, and get controlled by their own vices to feel strong.

Maybe all those broken bones led to a drug dependency and then no more money, then boom: gunbattle with ex-husband in attempt to get more money.

Or maybe movie stunts is like football and gives you repeated concussions and brain damage that results in poor judgment and violent behavior.

It does eerily read like a scene from a film. Almost like they were doing a take and died via gunshots.

I'm reminded of Vic Morrow dying because of that fucker Landis.

Its really strange though, like millais said, she might have gone off the deep end because of the stunt work

Does this all sound a little fishy to anyone else? I just don't really see all this adding up in a satisfying way. Much as I would like to believe this story is true because it would be super bad ass on her ex's part it just feels far fetched. So I'm supposed to believe she and her new boyfriend both had guns and got the drop on her ex who somehow avoided getting shot and then took them both out all by himself? I just don't buy it.

It also goes to show how real life differs from film. Although honestly a documentary or something on this couple would be interesting, especially since you know they end up being shot.

Self defence or no, I hope the guy gets a substantial jail sentence over this.

You know what they say, truth is stranger than fiction. I'm not entirely convinced one side is telling the truth exactly (stuntwoman's dead, kids are probably traumatized and don't know what's happening, ex is probably not spilling everything and the police are likely witholding information), I wouldn't be surprised if something similar to this happened.
