Bad News, Everyone!

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/22/futurama-cancelled-comedy-central_n_3131915.html

I love Futurama (including most of the new episodes--I mean, you get to see Scruffy the Janitor as a chick!).

It's sad to see it happen again--but hopefully it will go out with a BANG!

I figured we could use this thread to discuss Futurama in general.

And if you don't like futurama, then you can

I only saw maybe four episodes or so last year on vacation but it seemed like a pretty good show.

Whatever. A world without The Cleveland Show is a good world, regardless of any other bad things that come along the way.

I'msorrytobeadebbiedowner, but I thought the recent Futurama episodes were kind of disappointing. It's sad to see something resurrected and then have it die off again but I think it's better off getting cancelled. Maybe they'll try a new show or something.

Cleveland Show was just turrbl in general.

FYI, the Simpsons had a rivalry with The Cosby Show. They were against each other in the ratings, I think they had the same air time, and Bill Cosby actually hated Bart Simpson because he thought he was a bad role model for children.

And I think some of the episodes of Futurama, the newer ones, weren't that great. They were trying to either be too scientific (I know it's a sci-fi, but there is a level for how scientific they can be) or too much like a social commentary. Plus I got tired with the "will they or won't they" with Fry and Leela.

My favorites of the comedy central seasons would have to be the episode where Bender and Amy start dating (their the two most impulsive characters on the show, it was bound to happen), the gender-bender episode (scruffy the janitor makes one hell of a woman!), the one where Leela writes a childrens' television show ala Yo Gabba Gabba, and if I think of any more I'll write them down.

Well, while I think the new Futurama episodes were trying way too hard to be relevant, they had their moments, like Lethal Inspection, the episode where Bender and Hermes try to track down Inspector 5. Now that was a good episode. And it was still better than The Simpsons.

Yeah, there were some good moments, but like any show that's been on the air a long time, the evidence that it's been on longer than the creators can keep up with rests in whether or not the show has developed an unnatural obsession with one topic. Every new episode of Spongebob is about the Krusty Krab; every new episode of South Park is about Cartman and reads like an Aristocrats joke that never reaches the punchline; every new episode of Dexter is about fighting the light and darkness while Deb fucks someone in the background; every new episode of The Office is about... I dunno, I stopped watching it years ago, is it even still on?; every new episode of Doctor Who is about the Doctor almost dying FOR REALS and the universe being reset for the next episode so we can see Pond and The Doctor together for many more series to come; and every new episode of my life is about pain, humiliation, stress and diarrhea. Likewise, one too many of Futurama's new episodes feature Fry and Leela's relationship as a main plot line, and it gets old really fast. It's not even a matter of "will they or won't they" anymore; that story arc ended seasons ago. Now it's about trying to bring back the same feelings Jurassic Bark and Luck of the Fryrish wrought, except with their relationship as the vessel for emotional exploitation - a la the episode where Fry is killed by a bee sting - every other new episode.

Futurama is still a well-written show, but the writers' enthusiasm and wit is beginning to spoil. I'd rather the show stay dead than become one of the shows listed above that I now despise. The only other channel that has expressed interest in carrying it is Fox, and - honestly - Comedy Central was the best thing to happen to Futurama. I don't think Fox would continue to give the writers the same freedom of speech they enjoyed at Comedy Central. Ever notice how the show became raunchier and more outspoken?

Not really that much of a shame. The show went way downhill, and didn't pick up it's pep when it came back.
Mostly because Conan isn't a writer anymore.

Conan never wrote for Futurama, He was a writer on The Simpsons during their "Golden era"

Pretty sad to see Futurama cancelled again, although some of the episodes from the more recent seasons have been pretty bad, it's still a funny, watchable show, I would rather see it go now than drag on and on the same way as The Simpsons have.
