just looked through five years worth of posts in this thread and couldn't find a single image of, or link to, a non-white doll

Well, most are made by Asians. Those companies sometimes have a "tan" color that ranges from a really weird looking orange (Dream Valley, I'm looking at you), to a pretty color that's close to Middle Eastern-ish skin color. Very few even offer dark skintones, and most dark tones have issues with very visible sanding lines from casting. Granado has some really pretty darker tones.

If you want one with "African" features then you'd need to look at independent artists, as it's pretty niche. On par with wanting fat dolls. The Asian customers aren't interested, so the Asian companies don't bother.

Darker dolls are usually more expensive by $30-150 on top of the cost of the doll, most dolls are made by Asians and I feel no shame in saying that quite a few of them have little regard for the caramel and chocolate people of the world, and dye jobs for tan can be fuck ugly, even those done well. Even most company's brown options are called tan, not brown, but the effect of white/light skin being turned by the sun. I am not too gung ho about it myself, but then again im a glow in the dark minority and a cheap ass who has all white dolls.

I was mainly joking about KF being racist it does not surprise me at all that the average doll looks the way it does. its an aesthetic and I don't mean that in the 4chan way

When did you call KF racist?

Well most folks in the hobby will shriek about his the dolls are artist goods and uniqueness/diversity would or should probably be a part of that. They are a niche sure, but i feel that i wouldn't be wrong in questioning why half of them look like the same generic, anime bishe boy or doe eyed girl.
Iplehouse has some pretty nice race ambiguous sculpts, but SWITCH with their $300 heads have been making the same looking fodder for years, fairyland too. Mika was probably the most unique head they made and his release was drenched in yaoi fodder, complete with lollies, sailor suits, and the new soft moe body.

You are correct, it has happened with headscarf wearing dolls and non minority doll owners with colored dolls ect. But no one really cares that much. It really depends on what group you are in, the legit only crowd has more diversity police and you have a higher chance of being called transphobic for calling an Asian, male based doll in a skirt trap or something.
Recast folks can be just as loony but i've found they care much less. Might be less of a popularity contest for who has the most expensive or best looking toy when you have no qualms buying a bootleg for a quarter of the price.

I think one of the reasons this community has not been overrun by the anti White crowd is that it requires a relatively expensive buy-in. It's not enough to cry on tumblr and twitter, you actually need to invest a couple of hundred dollars in dolls and outfits if you want people to pay attention to you.
You also can't bully doll makers by threatening their income, or prommises of more money, because the are making good money in a market with more demand than supply. Somebody who is booked out for years has little incentive to listen to outsiders making threats or promises.

That's a pretty good take id say.
On the buyer side, there are people who use their wellfare/stimulus/ disability and covid check on new dolls. And if you are one of the few people in the hobby with two braicells who thiks people should not be using their welfare on plastic toys, then you are a x bigot and don't believe 'poor' people should have nice things.

Aside from that, Asian companies are usually pretty stiff to identity politics, but there has been some good drama that English speakers/readers are not privy to. I can only remember issues with companies comitting copyright issues such as when sio2 made a cardcaptor sakura based wig for a doll, soom sold some horns based on an artist's illustration, and woodhabitat blaming a storm, then a car accident when asked where their in stock, bjd dolls are and why they had not been shipped. Pretty much stranded their American dealer when people turned on them. There was some chatter that woodhabitat dolls were recasted but that was 1) a random rumor started on the english side , and 2)the sculptor was the dude from sio2

I could probably find some skeevy looking doll sculpts that are a lip size too close to being a racist caricature, if you’d like.
In people’s attempts with creating more diverse doll sculpts and doll bodies they’ve fallen into the trap that is “this might be seen as racist”.

I could’ve sworn there was an artist doll with black facial features that toed the line that was almost a racist caricature but I can’t seem to find any images at the moment. I’ll keep looking.
