Collector hobby for me. I usually keep mine on shelves unless I'm making clothes, wigs, shoes, etc. Plus, I like making characters and doodling pics of them.

Others are really neurotic and think that not touching their dolls for any length of time is abuse or neglect, like life doesn't take precedence.

So, do you guys play with the dolls, or is it just like a collectors hobby?

Define play. Some folks straight up collect em.
Some do fake picnics and photostories, most of it is pretty autistic, metaphorically and literally.
But a few are well put together mini diorama/worldly type scenes
As a mostly female hobby with the occasional gay man or men who want to be women, the tism and cat fighting can be pretty bad. The emo, yaoi based photography use to be rampant a few years ago. And that person who did gay Kylo ren shoots made me die a little inside as they did a good job, then you'd see Driver getting his resin ass getting railed or some shit.


I take em out once a blue moon for pics. My joy comes from working on them, so mods, painting, making wooden furniture, sewing ect.
All depends on personality. I like to be left alone and appear normal, so i dont tell strangers i have a two foot doll at home, i show them a 1:3 scale desk i made and chair, a put together doll seated and some antique mini typewriter.

Idk if that makes sense. Im well aware this hobby is weird and probably less acceptable than collecting pop figures to the average person.

Edit: the dollfie dream community seem less spastic and more horny to degenerate, but have some nice "play" pics of eating ect. Then again i can't read Japanese so they may be about the same levels of tism

I'm just here to bitch that some wigs just look really bad ngl
It always ruins the whole look when the wig doesn't work at all for the face in terms of color or the wig looks like it was severely damaged because it was stored terribly

I don't have BJDs, just 1/6 obitsus and fashion dolls and shit because lol poorfag. I'm slowly trying to get back into the doll game and have been working on fucking around with customizing my Rey+Kylo Forces of Destiny set because I'm garbage and actually like the sequel trilogy. I rebodied my Kylo a while back and just finished rooting him since I hate molded hair. First I've rooted a doll in years and probably the most obnoxious doll I've ever rooted.

I got it done and he looks good though, and I think it was a good project to motivate me to get back into doll shit.

Ngl you can even style shitty wigs to look like the $60 synth ones for sale, just takes time and practice. I got a $1 fine curler, a
$2 fat curler and a $1 flattening iron from goodwill and volks hair shit plus some fine scissors and ect. I don't even have white hair and can style n set a synth wig in about an hour.

Side note, i hate fake fur wigs. Idk what it is,but they always look shitty to me for some reason, even the styled ones

I have 1 bjd of Volks and she is very old. I had a whole legion but sold them. I also no longer come to DoA. All that recast I see on ebay and other places has made it a lot less fun. This is Midori in pre school,I also had the half elf,a man I can't remember

How do bootlegs/ recasts on ebay make the bjd hobby less fun for you?

Because the owner worked months on a sculp so a doll is expensive. If someone will make a boot cast or sculping he'll miss some amount. I do not find that fair

Would you buy a doll head from a new sculptor if they partner with a recaster and get a portion of the profits?
Because that's happening right now with luo and a new fantasy head

If you need people to give asspats for "anxiety" about ordering a pretty doll because it's pretty, then that area is for you. Sometimes I wonder if some of them are trolling, but that is just wishful thinking.

Secondhand, cheaper companies or 3d prints are a decent option. Or if you are a normal consumer then a second hand recast would be the most affordable for a first timer. Most folks who get a first recast eventually go legit or get a legit in some way anyway. Even the most vocal anti recast spergs will have a bootleg part or replacement limb. Or be like sheepy.bjd and out themselves for recasting dolls in some stupid way.

I sometimes get shit for it but i still don't understand people who don't know how to restring their dolls or do basic maintence, after being in the hobby long enough to know better. That's like not knowing how to relace your sneakers or mend a hole in your sock.

The abundance of women in the hobby are probably to blame, imo. The cattyness is absurd, and new age bs results in slapfights because A's asian k pop doll is trans and B is literally in tears because some randy C's doll has a similar oc faceup due to having extra eyes.

But. tldr: sheepy posted pics of minifee head base she recasted at home, tried to defend herself, poorly (is a stupid drama cow on the daily) and was told off by Fairyland because they were probably being emailed by busybodies that someone was recasting their shit.

Couldn't this also be avoided if people just calmed the fuck down? She's using fake heads to make wigs and she's not selling the fakes? Who cares? I'd imagine any craft is likely to damage the form it's being made on and those dolls are ridiculously expensive. Who cares if she's using homemade fakes as a base?

If you put anti recast, pr artist in your bio, then you've already signed your fate.

You can also just cover the head with foil, then cling wrap if working with heat, or cling wrap alone for glue. Its not that involved.
