The first full trailer was released today.

I think it looks gorgeous, which has my hopes up. I'm not totally sure about everything though. The musical theater dork in me has serious doubts about Emma Watson singing. Belle has the lion's share of singing and Emma just started learning for the role. Also, the dress makes me sad. Why is it a prom dress.

Anyone have opinions?

I'm not a fan of the Beast's design (a little too flat-faced in my opinion) and was hoping he'd look more werewolf-like. But with that said, the visuals are definitely very impressive. I hope that it doesn't just go through all the beats that the animated film did without adding anything new. If it does, at least it will be pretty to watch. We'll just have to see.

It's kind of weird how his design looks like they tried to make him sexy or something. What was cool about the beast in the animated version was that he started off being very animalistic and as he got to know Belle and stopped being a shit head he became more and more human like in how he moved and his design worked really well for that transition from beast to less beast because he could look sophisticated or he could be a werewolf looking guy. In this one he stands like a human and the only thing that changes is his clothes I guess?
I haven't seen any of the live action remakes because I don't really give a shit unless it's animation because I dig good animation. I do hope they try to fix the weird Stockholm Syndrome overtones of the story though because that always really weirded me out as an adult

Eh, might be alright, but I don't see the point. Kinda sad that Disney would rather remake every single one of their traditionally animated films before they make a new one, which will never happen.
They got Moana coming out first, so it checks out, I suppose.

I'm not going to see this one. If I wanted to see Disney do Beauty and the Beast I'd just watch the old film.

Even if they do try to put in differences from the animated film the problem is that it's still in the old film's shadow. It can never escape the old film to become its own thing and shed its own light on the fairy tale the way a version from a different studio, wholly unencumbered by Disney did 25 years ago, can.

And this goes for the Disney remakes in general, really. I vastly prefer all the old hand-drawn works of art, bursting with life and energy and the talent of some of the greatest animators ever to live, over what are, in the end, soulless cashgrabs.

I'll admit I'm a sucker for all things Disney, and as much as I, on principle, dislike seeing so many remakes being made, rather than (more) original movies, I'll still go watch them, and I'll probably love them.

At least, this trailer looks promising enough. Cinderella was enjoyable but not very good, so I'm hoping Beauty and the Beast won't follow that line. Alice in Wonderland was good in my books, so maybe B&B has a chance.

Can't say I don't find Emma Wattson as Belle to be... weird, for some reason. Gaston looks a lot like his original self, but I'll admit I didn't like the Beast's design very much, and only half of the talking objects' look okay.

I wish Disney would spend money on new ideas rather than bringing old ones to live action. Not that those movies necessarily suck but I want to see what more they can come up with. It's not like the old Beauty and the Beast was low budget and mediocre, it's a beautiful film and I don't see why it needs to be remade.

All the CGI turns me off, the objects look way too creepy...And it steals A LOT of elements from the 2014 french version, which is really depressing (but not surprising, coming from Disney...).
And I guess Emma Watson will add her #HimForHer twitter feminism stuff to this movie, which is not really something to look forward to.

I dunno, I love the original so dunno what this one can do for me...If it craps all over it i won't like it, but if it's just the same...Well, I guess it could be enjoyable for an hour and a half, it still looks kinda pretty, and if the music stays the same...

I don't like Watson as Belle. Why couldn't find some French actors/singers for the movie? The live action version is too much like the animated movie. The animation was already perfect so I don't see why they don't just instead go with a more realistic approach (in terms of actors, costume design, sets) for the time period it takes place in.

Mrs. Potts and Chip in particular go full on into the Uncanny Valley. This is what happens when you take character designs meant for animation - which is stylized, so it can work - and try to transport them into live-action and make them more realistic.

Because then nobody would watch it. After all, they're not doing this to shed some new light on the story or take a new interpretation; they're doing it to make money off your nostalgia for a good film.

I wouldn't be surprised if the movie ends up being "topical" like Maleficent was with "the rape survivor" narrative with today's feminism or something. Probably something similar to the Ghostbusters thing, and it's kinda weird since the original movie touches on those issues, but much more subtle.

I don't want to imagine what Belle telling Gaston to check his privilege would be like...

And that happened in the original, but much more subtle. ("A woman shouldn't read, soon she starts thinking..." "Gaston, you are positively primeval"). I mean subtlety would go out the window in the new age of movies and be more direct.

And after all Emma Watson did turn Alan Rickman's death into a push for feminism, after all...Who's to say she hasn't placed her hands over the script...

Which is funny given how the animated film was produced. The characters that were turned into things ended up coming back appearing nearly the same as they were as a clock, a candle and a teapot, the way caricature and design is implemented.

This is mostly due to growing up with the Harry Potter films, but when it comes to Emma Watson all I see is Hermione Granger. I know this isn't Watson's fault, but I imagine if I did watch the movie, that thought would always bother me.

Besides money, I just don't see the point of this movie and all the other Disney live-action remakes. You could at least argue that the Cinderella movie actually tried to build the Prince's and Cinderella's relationship before the ball. Maleficent at least had a twist with Maleficent's and Aurora's relationship. What's the point of this movie?

Seeing non-stop cgi in movies really makes me miss seeing 2D animated films. I thought CGI looked cool/different in the early 2000's, but it's true that too much of one thing gets boring over time.

The overall look of the movie, while visually pleasing, looks the exact same as the other live-action Disney movies.

Who knows, I could be completely wrong and it'll be awesome, but that's just my opinion. :)
