It makes sense that people would misremember it as -stein because -stein is a common last name suffix and I can't think of any last names ending with -stain. I can think of more than a few names and titles of things that I've misspelled for years since I assumed they would be spelled normally but they're actually spelled weirdly.

well stain makes more sense phonetically (not actual sounds but english pronounciation) they aren't the bear-in-st-eye-n bears they are the bear-in-stain bears

Shouldn't it be Bear-in-steen? Berenstain looks like it should be like the word stain. Besides, the writer is Jewish and a lot of Jewish names end with stein (and it is named after the author btw)

There are times when I like to say we're just seeing human beings with bear masks on (at least the way some animals are depicted acting/doing human things without any real connection to the species they're suppose to be).

EDIT: Now I'm thinking of the quandary of Big Paw, he seems just like all the rest despite being blown up about 20% and left nude (they could've stuck him in a nice beat-up pair of slacks held by a single suspender in that Big Bad Wolf sort of way).
