I always thought the one from Arby's was pretty good. I believe they only sell during Lent season though.

Hmmm...just enough tartar sauce so that it wasn't overwhelming, a pretty decent sized hunk of cod for what I paid, ($4.75 or something like that), and the batter was really good, too. I think I detected hints of celery and pepper. Gave it a nice, golden crunch that led to the soft, flaky, fishy goodness.

Not nearly as greasy as you'd imagine, either! The vegetables almost seemed to be crisper, although that could have been entirely psychological, the rest of the sandwich was really that impressive.

The bet part about it, though, was that the ratio of breading-to-fish was 100% spot on. I didn't have too much batter and not nearly enough fish, like I have had virtually everywhere else.

I tried googling it, apparently BelFrit is the Hungarian brother corporation to the Belgian Best Frit. I had no idea about it, so basically i've learned something new thanks to you.

All is not lost, though. According to Yelp there are some really nice joints that serve salmon burgers that are just as good, is not better:

I second the Arby's recommendation, and in fact, had the two for $5 today. It's huge, an actual filet and not some bunch of minced shit, and generally served piping hot.

Popeye's also has a good only-for-Lent fish sandwich, too.

Burger King's BK Big Fish is, or at least was, good too before the whole chain seemed to go into a decline. Unless you have a BK that you know isn't complete shit, I wouldn't gamble on this, though.

Then there's Long John's, which is okay.

And somewhere around the bottom, but at least reliable, is McDonald's minced piece of shit, which is tolerable, I guess.

Fosters Freeze makes pretty good fish sandwiches. Not very oily, the batter is nice and crispy and complements the fish. Plus you can get chili fries as a side instead of crinkle cut, which goes surprisingly well with fish.

If tacos count as sandwiches though then I'm gonna say Taco Del Mar's fish tacos are the best. They have a tomatillo white sauce instead of tartar that is fantastic with a little pico de gallo and lime.

By the marina in Reykjavik is a food-cart called Lobster Hut where I bought a foot-long lobster sandwich (with lettuce and some-kind of dressing) for maybe £6 IIRC. I think it was around 1000 Krona which is the price of a pint of beer there.

Yeah, it's still good. It's better than the one from McDonalds, although that one isn't terrible. But yeah you don't wanna get one from a horrible location.
