Read two of the sequels, and wow, they are hilarious in their masturbatory hatred of the evil liberal gubmint.

The second book follows up on the government taking away guns with letting Mexico take back a sizable portion of the US, calling it Aztlan, essentially a reverse Reconquista. The US government is depicted as being run by spineless cucks (often literally for the latter), homosexuals are depicted as predatory deviants (though the fact one couple tries to force their son to do a prototype of trooning out is oddly foreshadowing of IRL events), and the plot ends with two assholes, one of which is hopped up on drugs and fucks the other to death, which is depicted heroically (granted, one of said assholes did rape the heroine of the book prior).

The third is really fucked up, as it depicts a grotesque parody of Barack Obama trying to whore out the country to foreign mercenaries (a plot point that just drops off the plot itself for some reason after a certain point) and is revealed to be a mustache twirling commie trying to further fuck up an already fucked up country.
This sounds like the best libertarian fanfiction ever.

I love reading right-wing 'patriot' books, they're usually violent masturbatory Walter Mitty fantasies about the author's Mary Sue self-insert fighting the evil government/UN/Jews/NWO.
The books of big brained leftwing geopolitical people are also pretty fun and dumb.

The Next 100 Years

Russia dies, Turkey as an Islamic Caliphate and Japan take over Eurasia. They challenge the USA in ww3. The Japanese launch a surprise attack with moon rocks and the USA defeats them with their Polish-Commonwealth allies.

Imagine making predictions as though the world were a Paradox game. This is a NYT best seller.

EDIT: Holy fuck, this may have been where Brianna Wu got the Moon Rocks idea.

I'd say I've lost track of the number of times I've mentioned that book to someone who'd seen the anime or read the manga and they'd be utterly floored by there being a book, but it was only like five.

still. I'm a bit surprised NOBODY I know has read the book.
The differences are absolutely fascinating.

The core idea of the book was to represent all of the social problems with Japan and how they may be unsolvable.
Then the Manga tries to make it more optimistic
And the product made for a wider audience is fun and kinda goes against the books spirit with its end

Dunno, short and free on the internet. People may as well burn through it if they liked the other two.

There's some pretty fucked up stuff in Patriots too. The main group of 'heroes' is a militant survivalist organization that operates like a cult, ruled over by Rawles' self-insert character. They have a militia compound in northern Idaho with literally tens of millions of dollars worth of guns, food, army surplus vehicles, even an ultra-light plane rigged with machine guns. They all practice a fanatical version of hyper-Calvinism, to the point where women are ordered never to speak unless spoken to first. They defend their compound from attacks by horribly stereotypical black and Mexican gangbangers, led by Jewish communist commissars(!). There's a token agnostic who gets mortally wounded and repents on his deathbed, the UN shows up to be bumbling cannon fodder in blue helmets, and all the minorities in America die off without ZOG paying their welfare, leaving a 100% white, Christian nation.

At least the version I have is an early one that's a little bit saner, Rawles later released an updated addition that adds on even more sovereign citizen stuff, chapters heaping praise on Nazi cop killers like Gordon Kahl and Chevie Kehoe, and Holocaust denial and even claims that Pearl Harbor was a Jewish false flag.

According to the book, when Dave was taken away from his mom, she found another one of her children to treat like shit, the one who corroborated Dave's story. Given how Dave basically described his siblings as being so grateful they weren't the punching bags they just pretended he wasn't one until one of THEM got the same treatment, I'd lean towards him not making shit up.

Further, according to Dave's own account, his mother worked pretty hard to lie about things, and based on the incredibly detailed injuries described in the book (including a gut wound that should have left a noticeable scar), he's either an amazing liar or his mother should burn in Hell for her crimes.

Read some of Patriots since you mentioned it, and I can date the exact point the story loses any sanity and dives headfirst into sovereign citizen bullshit. (based of the copy I've been reading available on Archive.org)

Chapter 6.

Before that, it starts innocently enough, assuming the 2008 economy went utterly to shit and crapped out worse than in 1932 and it just spiraled out of control from there.

An early warning sign of the crazy to come is the rather.....jaded.....view they take of money and the government's willingness to hyperinflate everything, the story kinda hinges on the U.S. government being fucking morons who know what they are doing will cause the economy to implode catastrophically and still not giving a single shit.

Granted, in 2008 the US government was pretty stupid, but the view the author takes is that even the smartest politicians at the time were severely brain damaged and purposely fucked shit up despite knowing it would destroy their own power because they were just that fucking stupid despite their own greed and desire to hold onto power.

Still, aside from that, it's not too bad, and it sets up a society breaks down like the Great Depression 2.0 that just snowballs out of control until the U.S. is like Fallout minus all the nukes but with the same amount of survivalist anarchy.

If the author had stopped here with crazy shit, I'd write this off as another apocalyptic what if story in the vein of World War Z.

The next couple of chapters give a few more warnings things are gonna get nuts when it covers how all the character involved in this survivalist cult were so sure the U.S was gonna implode one day and took all sorts of insane precautions against it prior and describe the forming of said cult, which comes off as conspiracy nutty in some ways, but still isn't too crazy yet.

Some bible thumpery is brought up every now and then, but no worse than any of the other stuff thus far.

But Chapter 6 is when all pretense this isn't sovereign citizen fanfiction with some fundie Christian insanity for flavor is COMPLETELY disabused with Chapter 6 citing all sorts of sov cit tropes like:

  1. The difference between "commercial" and "private" driving (to justify not bothering with certain license restrictions)
  2. Lots of naked hatred of government laws on private ownership or purchase of any type of guns for any reason.
  3. Whitewashing Waco and Ruby Ridge as, and I quote:

"Waco and Ruby Ridge incidents were nothing short of government massacres of law-abiding Christians who just wanted to be left alone."

4. Believing the FBI purposely fucked up shit like the Oklahoma City Bombing for their own gain.

5. "Black's Law Dictonary" cited to defend their hatred of the government, a classic sov cit trope.

6. And then, what tiny shred of plausible deniability there is goes out the window when "Sovereign Citizen" is used as a positive identifer for all the above belief holding people with no irony whatsoever.

And it just gets more batshit from there.

Bit of a followup to my previous post on Patriots, there is an interesting point in Chapter 6 where it's obvious Rawles was working hard to someone make his sovereign citizen protagonists the good guys while still trying not to make the bullshit meter of the unwitting reader he's trying to win over with his obvious propaganda spike into the red.

We get a flashback to when two of the protagonist got pulled over by the cops for not having a proper license and Rawles had to do some obvious fanfiction rewrites of how these encounters go in reality.

1. The original reason they were pulled over is improper licenses/tags, and like any sov citizen, these idiots choose to try baffling the cops with bullshit to try and get out of it.

2. Rawles immediately realized any sane reader would call the sov cits dumbasses at this point, so he has the cops almost convinced to piss off with the license thing (though it's more like they change the subject before following up on it, plausible deniability for sov citizens really being idiots), so the cops instead notice all the guns and military crap the sov citizens have in their car and tries to pull some bullshit bust on them, despite it being tagged appropriately and having been purchased legitimately.

The fact the cops outright ignore this is to obviously appeal to 2nd amendment diehards and people who think the government wants any excuse to abolish it.

3. Here's where Rawles just can't help but be stupid because his ideology demands it. Instead of calling the cops on the above trumped up bullshit, they try more sov citizen baffle with bullshit tactics instead, which just pisses off said cops.

4. Pure fanfic occurs next, with the cops trying to strawman sov citizen beliefs (but he's the asshole here, so he's supposed to be wrong even though his comments on how sov citzens are baffling with bullshit are completely true) and then saying they'll just take anymore bullshit baffling as an excuse to kill the sov citizens on the spot.

5. The cops shoot first (of course for spurious reasons), and the sov citizens flee, their actual gaffes in this encounter buried under the fanfic version of how cops deal with sov citizens as opposed to reality.

6. Much later, when the sov citzens (now in hiding) catch wind of the charges against them, while denying the more inane crap like ties to Neo-Nazis, they don't reject being called "constitutional extremists" or other derogatory labels for sov citizens.

Finally finished Patriots, and I have to thank @Francis E. Dec Esc. for introducing me to this wacky BS, it has in many ways dethroned The Turner Diaries as my favorite "utterly insane" book.

Here's a small book review now that I finished this.

First off, it's written from a VERY pro-sovereign citizen/fundamentalist Christian POV. The latter gets slightly less emphasis, all you have to be in the book to be considered a good guy is a firm believer in the sov citizen side of things, but it's pretty clear the author considers being both to make you unquestionably in the right.

It also has an intensely "anti-globalist" message, with every evil trope that could be applied to the United Nations, foreign countries (that don't have similar beliefs), and international finance on proud display, and while some of this UN army characters get some humanization, it's pretty clear they are the villains. It's worth noting FEMA deaths camps and other batshit tropes common with the "evil gubmint" crap is tossed in as well.

Much like The Turner Diaries, it also goes into a disturbing amount of detail on how to be a terrorist and how to defeat and destroy military equipment used by the US Armed Forces (at the time of the writing of the story) alongside a lot of more generic survival lore that actually is pretty informative. Racism is actually not very prevalent and even condemned slightly, albeit with the caveat that the races in question need to share similar beliefs as the white good guys and not be in the pockets of the villains, otherwise they can go hang.

Guns and seething hatred of anything other than the most broad interpretation of the 2nd Amendment form a huge core of the story. If you for one moment don't believe people should be able to open carry whatever they please and have any gun they please, so long as they don't use it save for self defense, you're evil incarnate in universe. Other extreme views like belief fiat money (money not backed by gold and silver) is bad, a bastardized interpretation of constitutional government (that reads like the fever dream of those types who want the government to be as hands off as possible, including having practically no ability to tax and have to survive on a fixed amount of money for damn near anything and are at completely mercy of the states in some neo-Articles of Confederation sense), and a hypocritical view of government having no right to impose its will on anyone (even in cases of clear public emergency, which is ironic since the heroes have their own version they impose on each other in cases of necessity at times, enforced by little more than the honor system apparently) are key extreme views throughout the text.

However, the most insane part is the 'amendments they added to the revised Constitution of their ideal country, let me break down the insanity for you, it captures the high points of the fantasy world the author sees as ideal:

The 27th Amendment granted blanket immunity from prosecution for any crimes committed before or during the Second Civil War to anyone who actively fought for the resistance.

The 28th Amendment repealed the 14th and 26th Amendments. It also made full state Citizenship a right of birth, only applicable to native-born Citizens who were the children of Citizens. It allowed immigrants to buy state citizenship. It clarified “United States citizenship” as only having effect when state Citizens traveled outside the nation’s borders, and outlawed titles of nobility such as “esquire.”

The 29th Amendment banned welfare and foreign aid, removed the United States from the UN and most foreign treaties, capped Federal spending at 2 percent of the GDP, capped the combined number of foreign troops in the fifty states and on Federal territory at one thousand men, and limited the active duty Federal military to a hundred thousand men, except in time of declared war.
These first three basically set the tone nicely:

1. One provides a get out of jail free card for everyone who opposed the former US government or its post apocalyptic version, which basically means any character who was a sov citizen gets away scot free with their shit, and throughout the book over half the characters committed crimes worthy of at least lengthy prison sentences under real world law.

2. The second one is practically the masturbatory fantasy of anyone who intensely nativist and hates any allowance under law for immigrants to become citzens or enjoy the rights of citizens unless they get it the hard way. It also appeases the sov cit hatred of voting age restrictions and abolishes corporate personhood, a side effect of the 14th Amendment sov citzens despise. The fact the abolishment of the 14th weakens the enforcement of the 13th and 15th Amendments is glossed over.

3. This is a naked sop to anyone who hates big government, international subsides or assistance, foreign armies, or large standing armies, essentially a modernized take on rejected propositions by the more xenophobic Founding Fathers.

But it gets more wacky:

The 30th Amendment amplified the 2nd Amendment, confirming it as both an unalienable individual right and as a state right, repealed the existing Federal gun-control laws, preempted any present or future state gun-control laws, and reinstituted a decentralized militia system.

The 31st Amendment repealed the 16th Amendment, and severely limited the ability of the Federal government to collect any taxes within the fifty states. Henceforth, the Federal government’s budget could be funded only by tariffs, import duties, and bonds.

The 32nd Amendment outlawed deficit spending, put the new United States currency back on a bimetallic gold and silver standard, and made all currency “redeemable on demand.”

The 33rd Amendment froze salaries at six thousand dollars a year for House members and ten thousand for Senators, limited campaign spending for any federal office to five thousand per term, and repealed the 17th Amendment, returning Senators to election by their state legislatures.

The 34th Amendment restored the pre-Erie Railroad v. Tompkins system of Common Law, invalidated most Federal court decisions since 1932, and clarified the inapplicability of most Federal statutes on state Citizens in several states.

The 35th Amendment reinstated the allodial land-title system. Under a renewed Federal Land Patent system the amendment mandated the return of 92 percent of the Federal lands to private ownership through public sales at one dollar in silver coin per acre.
1. The first is the wet dream of any hardcore gun nut, never mind the fact this would create a nightmare scenario that would make for the prevention of any mass crime using weapons nigh impossible and would eliminate any form of background checking to prevent criminal elements from access to military grade ordinance.

2. This is the fantasy of radical enemies of any form of taxation, and the only funds they can collect are those that were allowed to be collected when the country was first founded, even though under their own xenophobic stance and the fact the story means most of the world no longer wishes to trade with them for obvious reasons means the revenue to be expected from these allowed means of government funding is going to be poor at best.

3. This makes my head hurt as someone who has taken some economics classes and reads like some horribly naive bullshit. It basically touches on every aspect of the economic system sov citizens despise, including hatred of fiat currency (even though bimetallic currency is fucked whenever the supply of gold and silver are out of wack, which one of the reasons it was eventually done away with), a desire for instantly redeemable currency (another bad idea, as this led to bank runs and economic panics countless times in US history every time the economy had issues), and the banning of deficit spending pretty much means the government is boned if they need more money for anything, if only to stimulate the economy, which would be denied them, meaning if they need to spend more than their budget to cover any sort of government expenses, the government grinds to a financial halt if they just don;t have it, which was used to get out of the Great Depression and sov citizens hate it because they consider it the government exceeding it's powers, not caring nor understanding any positives it might have for reversing economic slumps.

4. This is a weird mix of partially sensible ideas and utter batshit. The capping of salaries of elected officials isn't too crazy, but repealing the DIRECT election of senators is ironically a REDUCTION of rights, not an expansion, with the direct election of senators being allowed to prevent problems if a senator dies or is unable to continue their duties in office, which this omission would reintroduce the problems of not allowing this.

5. This is the fever dream of states rights morons, who hate federal interference with state laws, even though modern interstate commerce law was born of the common law decisions made AFTER the court case this would abolish and was established because the conflicting state laws were a clusterfuck the Supreme Court declared null and void in the face of common federal law on the subject in order to make interstate commerce much less a clusterfuck.

6. This is a clever way of saying "fuck eminent domain laws!", which sov citizens hate because it allows individual land rights to be superseded by corporations or the federal government if the creation of roads, canals, or other infrastructure requires the forfeiture of adjoining property. It also would virtually eliminate federally reserved lands, another things sov citizens despise because many of them hate conservation laws simply because they don't like the idea of the federal government restricting land use for any reason whatsoever.

Basically, this is a crackpot fantasy collection of every sovereign citizen trope in one novel.

In the Miso Soup by Ryu Murakami

The writing is amateurish, many elements of the story are absolutely ridiculous, and I’m not a fan of the translator, but the story is definitely fucked up.

A Japanese red-light district guide starts working for an American weirdo, who wants to get his dick wet. In the meantime, multiple gruesome murders are committed in the same area. The American dude’s weird behavior and endless lies lead the guide to start suspecting him of being the serial killer. His suspicions are soon confirmed, yet he doesn’t want to call the cops. The murder aspect of the story culminates in a massacre of a bunch of bar-goers and whores that’s described in a lot of detail.

Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World" was disturbing on the first read, but it just gets worse with subsequent re-reads.

A little scene towards the beginning especially stands out as fucked up beyond all reason where kids are encouraged to molest each other by the adults and it's the one kid who doesn't want to molest or be molested who is considered to be the abnormal one.

It's supposed to desensitize them to the sex and drugs powered culture of the world they are in, but the implications are even MORE horrifying after several re-reads:

It's a world where pedophilia is completely normal and considered HEALTHY.

Worse, it's heavily implied and to some extent outright stated the adults directly intervene to make sure the kids are touching each other inappropriately, even if they have to get "hands-on" themselves.

It's still a good book that shows the idealized glittering utopia of free love and drugs 24/7 can be one of the most terrifying things, just as bad if not worse than Orwell's grim perma-terror state of 1984, but it's still a book that can be hard to read stone sober.
Have you read Ape and Essence? It's another dystopian Huxley novel about these explorers from New Zealand, which was too remote to be destroyed by bombs. They are trying to contact people in the US or what is left of it. So they go by boat and reach California. Only to find that it is run by an insane religious cult that has decided humanity isn't worth saving so it should be genocided out of existence one massive baby cull at a time.

The clergy only kills babies that are deformed beyond a certain level. But every year the deformities get worse, resulting in the next generation getting smaller and smaller. To make it even worse, sex is outlawed save for one day out of the year where anyone can have sex with anyone else as much as they want. Every other day of the year it is drilled into your head that sex is bad and temptation must be avoided. Women wear pants with a red stop sign with "NO" emblazoned on each back pocket. So when they are seen from behind by men are reminded via religious brainwashing that sex is off limits.

Women are treated like paraiahs by the clergy. I forget what they call them. Something akin to poisoned vessels. But the deformities are blamed on their wombs when deep down the clergy know tthat it is the radiation itself and they want mankind to die out. The clergy is crazy but still playing the long con with the public.

One of the explorers falls in love with a girl there whose friend was devistated that her baby was deemed too deformed to live. He is offered a clergy position and all he has to do is get his balls chopped off. The clergy tries to sell it as the best thing ever too. But he also hears about another village where people actually have hope for humanity. And then comes the gruesome ceremony where dozens upon dozens of deformed babies are brutally killed.

It is actually a story within a story where some journalists are trying to track down the author of a rejected movie script that they found in a trash pile at a studio. The script is the gruesome plot but it is sort of married into the book's ending as well.
