You know, Sandopolis was the closest I ever came to ragequitting Sonic. Take too long to hit the lightposts, and those fucking Boo Buddies go aggro and pounce from all directions. On top of that, sand keeps rising until it crushes you against the ceiling.

I guess "Sonic Drowning Music" is more engrained in meme culture.
Act 2 (or Sandopolis, in general) has to be one of those cases where a casual player just Time Overs because the stage is just too damn long, especially if they miss that jump on the sand slide. And speaking of that, I had a Sonic Collection game for the DS as a kid. I played S&K, and by the time I got to Sandopolis, Act 2, I felt as if the game was bricked, on some DSP "nothing I can do" mentality.

I symbolize that stage with Hell, and the music fits. It's one of my favorite stages just because of the memories, and finally getting through it once I became more proficient and competent.

after playing tarkov i simply just can't understand shotgun mechanics in most shooters anymore. on one hand in tarkov you can just blow the fuck out of someone's limbs or pop them in the head for like 50 meters away, and on the other hand your shotgun is basically just glitter to the enemy at no more than 25 meters on call of duty cold war or some big franchise shooter.

You misremembered a bit. Sandopolis 2 is still probably the worst level in the game though.
I'm pretty sure the game mercies you by lighting up the stage if you die, but upon Act transition, the stage is dark at first. Notice the game starts with a blank screen on the Act Card, rather than the stage itself. You can also hear a note from the menu theme at the start of the video, meaning that the player used the level select to get to this stage, rather than starting from Act 1.

That said, I have zero problem with the level and quite enjoy the challenge it presents, but that's probably because it's a game I've played enough times to measure in the quadruple digits at this point.

It's the Sonic/Tails version that gets me, I always have trouble remembering exactly what to do during the sand slide.

Ninja Gaiden 2, the Xbox version. There's a lot of bullshit in the game. Projectile-spamming enemies, some really obnoxious bosses, ghost fish, grab spam, and much more. I enjoy the game but it is far from perfect.

My advice for the infinite-looping sand slides: always jump when there's an intersection between two slides when you're sliding from right-to-left. Taking the diagonally right ones will progress you through the level after two jumps if done correctly.

If you see this swinging platform, that's your cue to jump, as the intersecting slide will take you straight to the next lamppost.

Since we're on the subject of classic Sonic, fuck the Labyrinth Zone "boss fight" in Sonic 1. I'd say it's the hardest part of the whole game.

Fuck this part of Chemical Plant in Sonic 2 as well, it's crazy hard for the second Zone of the game. 8-year-old me struggled here for a while.

The Quiet Man.

Imagine wanting to make a game that mainly consisted of live action cutscenes, with point and click basic "gameplay", AND MUTE ALL SOUND to "prove a point." And sell it for $20. THEN, patch the sound back later.

WHY?!
Which is why it showed up in a number of top ten 'worst' lists, and why it didn't sell worth a damn.

Thoughts on Marble Zone? I don’t mind the platforming and the music is great.
I can't say I often have them. Both Marble and Spring Yard are at the back-end compared to Green Hill, Labyrinth, Star Light, and Scrap Brain (Final too, if you want to be cute).

Tonal whiplash. Green Hill Zone, for the entirety of it, was colorful and Sonic can go fast at any skill level of play. Marble Zone is the antithesis; it is a gloomy stage that is slow (gameplay-wise, and sound-wise). If that was their intention ("it's all about speed, but you will not always have the chance to use it"), alright, but again, it is still jarring.

Any game that has some bullshittingly hard achievement that seems to only be there to piss off people who want to get the most out of their game.

Special mention to the "Alpha vs Omega" achievement in Dead Rising 2: Off the Record where you have to get Denyce, the very first survivor you encounter in the game, to hit Sgt. Boykin, the penultimate boss of the game. As Dead Rising games are infamous for their braindead survivor AI, it becomes an aggravating slog to escort Denyce all around Fortune City for HOURS while making sure she both doesn't die and stays far enough away from a safe house so that she doesn't enter it and force you to start all over again.

At least with "7 Day Survivor" in DR 1 you aren't at the mercy of the AI being retarded and you can actually go where you want without restrictions, Alpha vs Omega is just the world's worst escort mission and that's saying a lot.

because balance. for a gun to work like it's real world version with all the pros and cons intact, you'd need to replicate the real world environment. most maps are shoeboxes, which means certain guns would be clearly better, but no one wants to play cod instagib only.

so devs take different types of guns and balance them against each other in the game environment they're used in via range/damage/recoil/reload etc.

Speaking of BS achievements, any game that has multiple achievements for beating the game on various difficulties, but finishing the game on a high difficulty doesn't give the achivements for the lower levels.

and my personal "favorite" those rocket launcher enemies that can fire their weapons at point blank range at you and take no damage from doing so.

Since we are speaking about Sonic, I'll contribute although its modern Sonic in my case, there's this level in Sonic Unleashed where you essentially have to do a speedrun trough the level since you have just a few seconds to almost run the entire level to save a little girl, but the biggest bullshit is not the speedrun itself but the fact that you have to make contact with the girl, and since she is very small and you are running very fast, it is possible to run past her and since Sonic is not really mean to turn back if you run past her you may as well restart since its almost impossible to turn around and run back to her in time.
