Even the Nintendo 3DS had a port of it and "child abuse" was not an issue for them:

Apple has rejected The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth from release on the App Store due to its reported depiction of violence and abuse towards children. This is according to Tyrone Rodriguez, the founder of Binding of Isaac publisher Nicalis. Rodgriguez, who is also a producer on the game, sent out the tweet you see below containing the rejection notice.

"Your app contains content or features that depict violence towards, or abuse of, children, which is not allowed on the App Store," reads the rejection letter.

Apple is getting very China-like (or Australia-like) with their app censorship. I guess we can put this up there with the civil war strategy game being removed because it had the confederate flag in it on their "dumb reasons to remove apps" list.

To everyone with an iPhone: If you care about video games or having control over your devices, you should get an Android phone next time.

Apple is ridiculously restrictive with their phones, not just limited to the ridiculous "moral" censorship they seem to be fond of.
That might work for the tech luddites or non-gamers out there, but it won't work for me. If I buy a phone, I own it... The platform or the app store shouldn't get in my way.

And yet Apple has the entire FNAF franchise available, which is all about dead children...

Maybe they should just resubmit it and say Isaac is a zombie. Their app store doesn't seem to have any problem with zombies in games.

FNAF probably only gets a pass because the dead children thing is never explicitly shown in basic gameplay - only hidden content or the endings directly tie into that detail and apple doesn't play games 100% for that kind of shit, while Isaac...well, the whole premise is that his mom is trying to kill him and that's the intro movie before even getting to the main screen.

Amusingly enough, however, Zombie Isaac already is an unlockable character - ???/"Blue Baby" is Isaac's asphyxiated corpse (the true implied ending of the game is Isaac suffocates in the chest while hiding from mom).

one of them depicts, although not graphically (it's still easy to piece together what you're seeing), A CHILD BEING KILLED
and 4 has a child being hurt and DYING in the end

apple.. what the shit?

Hahaha, this game is a perfect example of why iOS is the worst game platform
  • February 2016: The Binding of Isaac iOS was rejected by Apple from release on iOS
  • January 2017: The game was released
  • (circa) December 2018: The Binding of Isaac was pulled from iOS, and can no longer be reinstalled, even if you bought it for $15 and have a compatible device. No refunds. Even the App Store page for it is gone.
In fact, if you search through Reddit, you can see loads of threads throughout the years asking about updates or DLC. Surprise: there were none. It's not like the game was any cheaper on iOS, either, as the very same $15 you spent could have netted you the Steam version, which is still supported to this day. Steam's also really good about letting you redownload whatever you've bought in the past, including games that haven't been available for over a decade. iOS, though? Nope. Tons of games get removed or otherwise won't work anymore due to even OS changes screwing up games, and many games that aren't live services tend to just get end-of-life'd right on release.

Going from Apple to Google is the epitome of out of the frying pan, into the fire. All you can really do is wait for one of the linux efforts like the librem or pinephone to get past their early adopter teething phase.
