I used to work with a sassy black gal, and one day I overheard her blathering something about how Africans discovered America hundreds of years before Columbus. I usually just ignored all of her idiotic blabbering, but this one had me so intrigued that I asked her to elaborate, and she was off to the races.

Apparently, an African king named like Umfoofoo *click pop* led an expedition of 200 big dugout canoes across the Atlantic from Africa to North America to trade with the natives. This supposedly happened in early 1300. Therefore, my coworker smugly assured me, "Africans were here first."

I never got the point of people trying so hard to say they had better ancient ancestors than everyone else. I love ancient history and how people used to live without what we have today, but honestly I could give less of a damn if down the line you were a Roman, Carthaginians, or whatever. If you told me your great, great, great, great, grandpapa was a relative to a Roman emperor I would be like "hey that's cool!" but that's about it. I don't know why someone would lie about their heritage.

If the Carthaginians were mostly black then why don't we see Romans describing them as such, and wasn't Carthage destroyed by Rome anyway?

Finally lets use alternate history and assume the Carthaginians WERE black, that doesn't mean your black ass is Carthaginian. Africa is one of the most regionally and ethnically diverse places on Earth, and it would be the equivalent of a Slav being proud about Ancient Rome because "hey I am white too!"

I think it's because a white supremacist usually use the line "white history is better than black history, its so rich and something to be proud of!" And then the line "the white man invented EVERYTTTTTTTTTTTHING!"

This leads to some black people to start doing a few things.

1.Desparetly want to prove them wrong so they make shit up like this and search for pictures of some dude on a coin with African features

2. These people obviously don't know shit about history, so they probably never even heard of the Sub-Saharan empires like Mali, Songhai, Ethiopia etc.

3.They live in the Americas and they can't find their ancestors because they were slaves, and the slaves descendants were stripped from their history and can't remember what region they come from, so they make BS up

You know as far as the Africans sailing to America I bet you what they heard was the theory of the Polynesians sailing to America from across the Pacific (samoans, Hawaiian s, etc) there is some evidence of that, but in South America, in chile.
