Black Panther gets 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes... - ... after RT indicates it will remove and ban anything reported as hate speech.

  • Intermittent Denial of Service attack is causing downtime. Looks like a kiddie 5 min rental. Waiting on a response from upstream.

Given that the film has an all-black cast and touches on themes of race and cultural heritage, it’s hard not to see the move as racially motivated. In response, Rotten Tomatoes has also taken a stand against attempts to sabotage the film’s reputation on its review site.

“While we respect our fans’ diverse opinions, we do not condone hate speech,” Rotten Tomatoes said in a statement. “Our team of security, network, and social experts continue to closely monitor our platforms and any users who engage in such activities will be blocked from our site and their comments removed as quickly as possible.”

Nothing in the "Marvel Cinematic Universe" category on Rotten Tomatoes has a 100% rating. The highest rated movie in the category is 2008's Iron Man, which is the oldest film on the list. Black Panther is not going to keep its 100% score; someone -- either through genuine analysis or well-hidden malice -- is going to knock it down a peg. This I can guarantee. Bonus points if it's Cole Smithey.

I have not seen Black Panther so I cannot give an opinion on it, but extremely few movies are worthy of having a perfect score and I highly doubt some dumb superhero movie whose only selling point is "they're all black" is going to be able to sit at the same table as your Citizen Kane's of the film world. Tyler Perry's shitty movies also have an "all black" cast and the highest rated one on RT has a score of 63%. The worst of them has a score of 6%, so why is it that people are allowed to openly shit on Tyler Perry and dogpile the reviews of his movies yet this retarded superhero movie for retards is somehow off limits? You either "support black creators" or you don't, there is no middle ground where you can cherry pick only the films that have mass market appeal.

It's because the white guilt crew enforcing that this is the BEST MOVIE EVUR loves Marvel capeshit.

EDIT: Drawing attention to "hate speech" reviews is only going to increase the amount of racist trolls. But I'm sure they know that, and it's an excuse to say only racists dislike the movie. Why do people keep using things from the Ghostbusters 2016 playbook if it just didn't work?

It's really not even that. If you check with the listing of critic scores you'll notice there is an awful lot of ratings that come in at 3 and 3.5 out of 5, as well as letter grades like B-, which are still considered "fresh". These scores translate to a movie that is, at best, "slightly above mediocre". Sure, there are a lot of 4/5's in there and even a couple of perfect scores from the usual suspects of The Mary Sue and a site called "Black Nerd Girls", but by and large these "solid B" scores point to a movie that, while apparently good, does have its flaws. And at some point someone who is more critical of mass market superhero movies is going to notice these flaws and penalize the movie more than these other reviewers and give it its first "rotten" rating. Even the virtue signaling white dude whose review by-line consists entirely of "Black Panther matters" couldn't muster a score better than a 4 out of 5.

But that's entirely the point. Tyler Perry funds all of his movies himself and casts them with his mates, he doesn't have any massive corporate backing except maybe from Lionsgate (who, let's be honest, aren't a big hitter these days). Marvel has the Disney juggernaut behind them as well as the social justice cheerleaders, so you better believe the critics aren't going to dunk on this movie or they're going to find themselves on the wrong end of both corporate politics and black identity politics.

Alright, let’s check some of these reviews.
“Despite familiar action-scene wobbliness, it's easily the most engaging Marvel film in a long while. Because-finally!-it has something new to say. More like this please, Marvel. Oh, and, of course: Wakanda forever.”
“Black Panther doesn't just hit its marks. It leaves marks. Landmarks. So get in the queue now, people.”
“Crashingly enjoyable, frequently exciting and even, when it wants, borderline witty.”
“Rarely has a superhero origin story been as satisfying as Black Panther, which in many ways doesn't feel like a typical Marvel movie - and more power to that.”
“Black Panther is set largely in Wakanda, with a detour to South Korea. Still, there's no shaking the feeling that this is what America looks like when it's allowed to be its truest, freest self. That's a superhero challenge if ever there was one.”
“it's a very rich buffet - geopolitical thriller, futuristic fantasy, coming-of-age story, African adventure with mystical overtones... it offers a wide variety of tastes and sensations but they never really come together to form a satisfying whole”
Alright, so far so good, nothing that delves into SJW ideology and bullshit than I expected it to be. So that seems to be a good sign. I’ll definitely check this out when it comes to my theatre.
But in the long run? Do review scores even matter? All that matters is that the movie seems to be really good, and motivates people, to see the movie, and make their own opinions.
