Notice in the movie all the super smart people are part of the royal family, the progeny of former black panthers who ate the special herb, and every other part of their society functions exactly like a typical third world African country surrounded by the trappings of wealth?
More over to the point, why is it celebrated that someone already in authority, power and money manages to do something great, and not a struggling person in the underclass?

I swear, ever since "Coming To America", the narrative of black culture ignores that the majority of Africa is a 3rd world, disease infested shithole and pretends instead that opulent mansions with gold trappings and marble is common enough to be everyone's TRUE AND HONEST heritage.

does this have a plagued tag yet? you guys are the ones who seem salty the movie is doing well lol
Most of us are just laughing at the fact that a white version of Wakanda also exists in the marvel universe and it’s known as Latveria.
Except it’s regarded as a shithole ruled by an un-elected tyrant.
But fuck that. Dr. Doom is the leader we need and deserve.

I saw it today.

It's alright, Andy Serkis steals the show as Klaue, but other then that it's no life changer. Just a good movie.
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Black Panther. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of racial operession most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer’s head. There’s also Black Panther's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they’re not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Black Panther truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the humour in the existential catchphrase “Wubba Lubba Dub Dub,” which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev’s Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Stan Lee's genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them.

And yes, by the way, i DO have a Black Panther tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It’s for the ladies’ eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they’re within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid

We honestly didn't get to see enough of how normal Wakandans operate to have any idea how Wakandan life actually is. We have that one scene on the streets that's 100% T'Challa awkwardly flirting with the love interest and nothing else. Everything else is either in the throne room, his sister's lab, or the purple flower garden.

I actually wonder where the budget went in this film, because compared to a typical Marvel movie it looks really financially hamstrung. The final fight is essentially 50 people on a backlot somewhere, we keep ping-ponging between the same 3 or 4 locations within Wakanda, and the CGI was noticeably worse than either GOTG 2 or Thor: Ragnarok. Maybe the talent was super expensive? I'm not sure.

Like the guy in green with the lip plate. I'm guessing he leads the merchant tribe? I dunno because I don't think he has substantial dialogue. :offtopic:/over.

I wouldn't care if the film is a hit, tbh. Fans being tards just because other people don't like their favorite film is getting real old, because who the fuck cares that someone has a different opinion. And reeing on Twitter about it just makes you look like a moron.

Can't find the clip but I'm reminded of that bit in The Critic where Jay is told he can only rate movies from good to excellent. When he asks what if he doesn't like the movie, he's told, "That's what 'good' is for."

I guess so but does that mean he would actually put something mediocre in the same basket as a "good" but not groundbreaking film? Seems pretty broad.

On a completely unrelated topic, did you know that not only did it have a black director and black cast, but also apparently a largely black crew?

If the movie stinks, do-si-do
