Captain Marvel was Jesus Christ, God, and the virgin Mary all rolled into one. A perfect being of unlimited power. She needs no one, she has the literal power of the cosmos at her disposal, to destroy goddamn planets if she chooses to. Her mannerisms in both comics and in the movie are disdain , disgust, and annoyance for anyone who gets in her ways. Her technical skills make Tony Stark look like a weeb fucking a shoe trying to figure out the meaning of Love. She doesn't need any other person/place/thing, she doesn't require any intervention or assistance from any 'living' creature as she can destroy anything that comes into her path. She's obliterated entire flotillas of battleships, killed MILLIONS of living creatures, and unleashed her will upon galaxies. She is more powerful than every single Marvel character but Death herself.

Now pretend Captain Marvel is the "Good" guy after reading all that.

Captain Marvel is an un-empathetic, uncaring, unsympathetic individual who only cares about what she BELIEVES is correct. This character is , as you so rightfully called it, boring to watch for 2 hours.

You could make a character like that interesting. Best example is Doctor Manhattan.

. . . why didn't they do THIS film before Captain Marvel? Why prioritize some nothing character like Danvers to get her own film first over one of the original six Avengers?
They altered the events of the Infinity War to exclude Adam Warlock(who was hinted at in the post-credits for GotG2) and needed someone to fill his shoes. Of course, when I saw they were doing a Captain Marvel thing I thought it was one of the good ones rather than Danvers so I didn't mind as much at first.
In fact, I'd almost wager they scrapped Adam Warlock because of the James Gunn shit.

Tangent aside, they probably wanted to get to Black Widow when the huge storyline was finished anyway.

I thought Ike Perlmutter shot down any chance of a film happening because he dgaf and only cared about his precious Flophumans series. But now we can finally get one bc Feige?

I think it was something like "B-B..but women cant sell well"
"Idk how to write for woman??"

I think you're getting the issues confused.

Here is where he questions the financial viability of female-led superhero films:

The Inhumans thing was an attempt to undermine the X-Men franchise because Fox held the film rights (he also tried to undermine the Fantastic Four because Sony held the rights).

Hey guys I have a hot take. Y'all talk too much about Captain marvel in a black widow thread.

I'm hoping they go with some old fashioned spy vs spy on this one. Keep the superpower squads at home for one movie.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Silly boy this is MARVEL!

Besides Rachel Wiesz is in it and shes a retarded feminist(surprising to see that be so common with British women) and the sad thing is that this movie will most likely get messed up by current year politics as Johannsen is a femtard too.

A spy v spy film would be ideal and all, but if it iant like Captain Marvel then Marvel cant virtue signal.

She has the same problem as Nick Fury: she's a spy/assassin, she's part of the spy/intel team in Marvel, and to make them great characters requires a spy story, not a save-the-multiverse setting.

I liked Jackson (he's playing the Ultimates version of Nick Fury), but think of what they gave him to do in the movies: mostly lurking in the shadows, saying cryptic things, organizing the Avengers to tie all the movies together. He was a plot convenience more than a character. The only times they gave him something to do were:

  1. The big car chase scene in Winter Soldier, which was fine but unnecessary; you could've put anyone in there.
  2. Dealing with the politics of the Registration Act and its effects on Shield--exactly what his character is good for.
  3. Political and intel stuff in Captain Marvel, which actually worked with his character and was the only redeeming part of the movie. Until his eye got scratched out by a cat. Fuck that irredeemable movie.
I'm up for a good spy caper featuring Black Widow, but where does that fit 10 years in, post-Thanos? They've been in monster-of-the-week mode almost the whole time, saving the world, stopping rifts in space time, etc. There's nowhere to go with character development or hero buildup, unless there have been hints and easter eggs in all the movies so far that will be answered. In which case we have the Han Solo prequel problem: no one actually cares what Hawkeye and Black Widow did in Budapest, just like they didn't need to see Han win the Falcon in a card game.
I'm just amused, that, if Hawkeye is in it, he doesn't get to co-headline.

He's just that much of an accessory.

I think the James Gunn shit happened too late in the cycle to have prevented Adam Warlock's appearance. Pushing the Carol Captain Marvel thing has been like an internal meme at Marvel for the past decade. The funny part is, the books have been canceled like 3 times.

Someone pointed out to me that part of the Captain Marvel shilling comes down to other studios having the rights at the time to Marvel's better known powerful female heroes like Storm, Jean Gray, Sue Storm, etc so they wanted a big powerful hero to anchor their film. The weird thing to me is, I feel like She-Hulk would have fit the snarky atmosphere of the Avengers much better than the Hulk they have. But then she's a lawyer, not a scientist. That time travel plot might not have worked with her.

I'm talking what I heard a while back through a friend that still follows comics, I haven't bought a new comic book since Ultimatum. It does get funnier every time they try to push something and it falls through the floor.

Ray Winstone has joined the cast. My guess is he's playing her dad Ivan. He got name dropped by Red Skull in Endgame.

I didn’t like Captain Marvel much either but y’all need to shut up about it.

In my hands I probably would have turned this into a female John Wick.

The weird thing is I watched an episode of the cartoon * the one where the Avengers team up with the Guardians * and she wasn't that bad she kind of had a buddy cop thing going with Rocket Raccoon.

Oh crap recast Captain Marvel with anyone who has chemistry with Bradley Cooper and I would go see that movie in a heartbeat.

I'm all for a Black Widow standalone movie.

I just hope it isn't an origin. I like having at least one character who is shrouded in mystery and we don't know everything about her. One of the things I hated about Solo was that they took everything we could gather about Han from the OT and explained all of it. I kind of like not knowing everything about a character.

Nick Fury had that same appeal...until Captain Marvel took at least one aspect of his mystery away.

But yeah, do a stand alone mission for Widow. I'd be down for that.
