Blade Runner 2049 - It was better than the original

  • Intermittent Denial of Service attack is causing downtime. Looks like a kiddie 5 min rental. Waiting on a response from upstream.

Just got out of the theater. Fucking great film, giving it to Denis Villeneuve was such a good choice. Very few other directors could have made it as enjoyable as he did.

Gosling’s performance was good but Ford’s was kinda ehhh. Maybe that’s due to his age. Everyone else was great. I honestly liked it better than the original. Visuals were especially fantastic.

Saw it tonight. It was miraculously good, a great work of art that will be considered in the same breath as the original going forward. What a great script.

I thought Ford was great. Gosling's performance reminded me so much of his performance from Only God Forgives that I was distracted, but that's not his fault.

It's definitely at least as good as the original. I hoped but never thought it was possible.

My biggest surprise of the year. Went in expecting a shitty nostalgia grab, where it pays lip service to the original while bombarding the audience with ball-numbing action and boring characters. Go the complete opposite. A genuine sequel with interesting arcs and the notable absence of producers reminding the director people will only enjoy it if it's loud and stupid.

But the producers are right, the film is bombing hard.

Also, 75% of the audience in the OW was male. The chick who wrote the article is not far from the truth either.:c

I watched Blade Runner 2049 the other day - it wasn't as great as the reviews on the Internet portrayed it. I'd rate it 7/10 at best.
But I think it wasn't Villeneuve's fault - Riddley Scott and the scriptwriters are to be blamed for that. It seemed like the film was very blatantly cut in half in order to make way for the sequel. All plot lines end very inconclusively and some of them look quite tacked on.

The main villain Wallace appears for like 15 minutes in the film and does pretty much jack shit. The Replicant resistance movement suddenly appear in the end for a while and also do pretty much jack shit; no meaningful explanation is given to why they want to start a violent revolution against humans now. The Blackout is not really explained unless you watch the animated prequel. Even then it's strange that it had so much impact on the world: the EMP only affected North America, and Tyrell and other corporations should have had backup datacenters elsewhere in the world, especially for important stuff like Replicant manufacturing logs.

Also, some scenes are way too long and just don't make sense, like the beehives standing in the middle of abandoned Las Vegas.

Still, it's very pretty and atmospheric, I'd give it that. 1980s cyberpunk aesthetics and 2017 CGI are a match made in heaven.

I loved it, but it seemed to lack a lot of the emotional depth of the first one. It'll probably grow on me over time though, just like the original.

She somehow missed that these women are objectified because in the universe they are objects. Those titties are supposed to creep you out. Just like K is a disposable cop and Sapper was a disposable grunt, every woman in this movie except Joshi was designed to be sold. It's just harder to represent male objectification visually. And the movie's not presenting it as a good thing that goes unpunished.

The less the film had to do with Deckard, the more interesting and enjoyable it was. Amazing production design and the effects for the sex scene were phenomenally creepy.

Making Deckard & Rachel the Adam and Eve of some kind of Replicant revolution was incredibly stupid and belonged more on Star Wars than Blade Runner. THAT felt like something the studio wanted.
