I am unsure which catastrophic infection you are referring to because Boogie has had many catastrophic infections but he has to keep his legs in compression bandages and elevated because he has lymphedema. For some people lymphedema happens even if they are thin but when you have a 500 pound man who by his own admission lives on Mountain Dew and junk food, it's a fair bet that his intense pain and swelling would be alleviated by losing weight and the sorts of exercise that is known to help people with lymphedema (walking and jumping on small trampolines).

Boogie is not a fit man who had an infection that landed him in bed for months and he gained 20 pounds. He weighs at least three times what he should. He's eating a minimum of 4500 calories a day in order to maintain his current weight and he has an audience of people cheering him on and making excuses as he loses more mobility and dignity every passing day.

He's not a bad human being, and he's probably not a lolcow but he's a whiner and full of fat logic that I find infuriating because he's a hot bed of opportunistic infections caused by obesity, has destroyed his circulatory system below the waist, is so fucking fat he's breaking chairs, and even though he's too embarrassed to see a doctor, he's got pics of his bruised ass all over the Internet. I'm a shitlady, I admit it, and Boogie annoys me with his excuses and refusal to take control of his health. I pity his wife so much.

Didn't Boogie's real massive weight gain partially stem from being bedridden after an accident of some kind? Or am I thinking of Ralphie May?

I've seen it a few times on various Discovery Channel shows about extreme obesity, but lymphedema looks like one of the worst things you can get. The people that have gotten it were practically crippled by it, the leg that got it was swollen to double the size and was just unwieldy. One guy's lower leg was so bloated the skin couldn't hold on and it looked a massive bed sore. Even without that it limited his mobility so much he wanted the doctors to amputate it, but for some reason, other than it being unsafe to operate at his size, they weren't going to do it.

I think the way he explained it is he always had weight issues but was still more or less mobile when he got the infection, then he nearly died due to the infection and has basically been houseridden since.
