Like, I know pleading guilty or not guilty is a vital part of the legal process, but it seems like a foregone conclusion that you’re guilty when you livestream yourself shooting people.
Mass-murdering sociopaths like Tarrant are total cowards. They pick the easiest targets to massacre and when it’s time to face justice they either kill themselves or drag their feet and bitch through the entire process. There’s no remorse for their actions or sympathy for their victims; they’re incapable of that.
Tarrant is especially heinous imo because he treated murdering 51 people in cold blood like it was all a huge meme. He killed and wounded dozens of people, including children and elderly people, and thought it was funny. It just showcases his complete and utter lack of empathy and humanity.
Likely had something to do with a threat of placing him with the Maori, who, despite being only 15% of the population, make up 50% of New Zealand's prisoners.

The virus thing is pretty much a solid example of why accelerationist "shoot up a place full of random people" ideology is a failure. The only impact his livestream and shooting has had a year later is that he created another banned shock video for edgy trolls to offend people with and caused a bunch of New Zealanders to lose even more of their rights. The copycats who tried it became laughingstocks instead of starting Race War III. Then there's the obvious "why didn't he attack some government official who enabled migration instead" question as well, and that would have had a much bigger long term impact outside the internet because his copycats would have likely been bigger threats.
Meanwhile the virus has given every fringe group online their dream scenario of society collapse. People are stuck inside and conspiracy theories are flourishing about people losing their rights. Racism has made a comeback but towards the Chinese instead of Muslims as solidarity campaigns like "hug a Chinese person" backfired extremely hard. Gun sales are spiking harder than even the biggest mass shooting panic buys. People are out of their jobs and angry at corporations/the government, and others are predicting it's only going to get worse in the next few months. Oh and even Tarrant's greatest achievement (tech companies overplaying their hand regarding censorship) has been eclipsed by how tech companies have "fought misinformation" regarding the virus in a way that normies can see.
The coronavirus has accelerated things far faster than any mass shooting in a Wal-Mart ever could have.

its still pretty crazy he livestreamed the hole thing. seeing a massacre live was surreal. and of course, facebook and twitch never had to pay for it. this will be more common i think.

So I've got nothing against Saint Brenton (can't really feel sorry for Muslim immigrants), but if you're going to commit acts of terrorism, you should have the balls to die in a shootout with police (if you don't want to shoot police, just shoot above their heads). Even Timothy McVeigh made that mistake, but it seemed to get especially bad after Breivik. That faggot surrendered and ever since then every wannabe race warrior surrenders to, because they want to pretend they're a political prisoner. It's not manly.
But, at the same time, the cultures that allow this, in some way, kind of deserve it. Breivik should have been executed. Tarrant should be executed. Breivik complains about his fucking video games being outdated and they go and get him new ones. The children he murdered didn't deserve it, but the society sure as hell did. It's bad enough that most First World societies don't execute anymore, but that's a whole other level. Treating a child murderer like royalty like that is appalling. As far as I'm concerned, the Norwegian government might as well be as guilty of the whole deal as Breivik is, and the same will probably be true of Tarrant.

I suspect his intent was to go down fighting, but the police rammed and flipped his car (he was on his way to the third mosque) and dragged him out when he was probably in a state of shock or concussed. I doubt he simply up and surrendered, since at the time he was intercepted, he still had yet to hit the last target.
Say what you will about him but he is one of the best independent film makers of our generation.
Gotta say, "my problem with the Christchurch shooter is that he didn't die during his massacre and is therefore a pussy" is one hell of a hot take.

Well terrorists have being doing that for the last 30 years or so, and the media and government pushback is so hard we now have "Religion of peace" and "Ignore those child grooming gangs... did you just misgender me?" memes going around. People are really surprised some guy decided to open fire on a mosque that had suspicions of militant activity that was scrubbed from the web hours afterward?
How many terrorists bombings and honor killings and rape gangs do you think is the right amount before someone, somewhere, does something crazy in retaliation?
I'm not saying it's correct, but I do see how it could happen.
