Disaster Brexit: "Technical terms" agreed - Chequers minus, as feared, or Brexit in name only.

The European parliament’s outspoken Brexit chief is coming to Britain next week to knock on doors in the European elections on behalf of the Liberal Democrats.

Guy Verhofstadt, who is himself seeking re-election as a Belgian liberal MEP, will hop on the Eurostar from Brussels to join Lib Dem canvassers on the doorstep on Friday.

Inb4 he gets knocked the fuck out on the doorstep
:story:

You know that coward will only be going around Remoaner areas. He will be bottled otherwise and we are not worthy of such a news story with footage.

George Galloway, Britain's king of carpetbagging, is planning to stand in the Peterborough by-election. I hope to god that his presence will split the Labour vote. Labour are fielding Lisa Forbes, a shithead remainer. With any luck, some of the remainers in Peterborough will buy into the Lib Dems' self-hype about these council results and switch from Labour to split the remain vote.

The Brexit Party has been astute with its selection process so far, so I'll be stunned if they accept Galloway's offer to stand as their candidate. The Tory candidate looks like a sincere, outspoken Brexiter who campaigned to leave in 2016, so there is a major risk of a fractured Brexit vote enabling another Labour win. UKIP will also have a candidate, of course.

Patrick O'Flynn, ex-UKIP MEP, is standing as the Social Democratic Party candidate. He is trying to fill the market for a socially conservative, economically left pro-Brexit party. That could be a popular stance, but the SDP is pretty damn obscure in 2019 and the brand is still synonymous with people like Shirley Williams and Roy Jenkins, so they'll have a hard time selling it without a great public relations campaign. Also, he sounds bitter AF about the Brexit Party's decision to stand, as if he had a serious chance of winning.

Rumour has leaked that some local polling has been conducted and it's looking rather bad for the Tories at present in what was a traditional Tory seat.

Farage has ruled himself out for standing as an MP as he's far too busy setting up the wider party with Richard Tice. Meaning he's apeing the Four Star League in Italy in that respect.

Any sense they'd either wheel in a big gun, or find someone of note who's a local and known among the constituency.

Considering TBP's picks so far, I hope it's the latter.

I'd think Gorgeous George is doing it for that reason but thinking about it probably not. He's too much of a narcissistic fuckwad to think about anything but attention for himself.

For those interested in the polled Eurosceptic voting share:

UK
748682

In this case the BP poll appears to be slightly conservative however this can partly be accounted to the effect of the rapid rise of the party over a short period on the average.

748693

We start to see a major fall in the labour vote around 8th April, this coincides with the first set of cross party talks stalling and the PM having to request a second extension from Brussels.

France
748683

It should be noted that whilst there variation between polls as to who is leading, National or Republique, most show recent growth for National Rally leading up to the elections.

Italy
748684

Well as May and Corbyn try and figure out how hard they can fuck the British Public Over before they're carted off to Madame Guillotine some fun facts coming out of Peterborough:

Nobody knows who the Brexit Party Candidate is, but there's a lot of excitement around it.

There's a rally in Peterborough tonight for the Brexit Party and Farage has said people will know in the next 24 hours, hinting that the candidate will be announced tonight.

The Brexit Party now boasts 88,000 supporters, placing them at around half strength of the Tory Party (within a month). With a staggering 3,000 people registering just last night.

They've issued a simple "pledge card" which is the same bumph they've been saying since launch now.

Nearly all of their money has been raised by donations of £25 and under. (90%)

Farage is now in talks with Tory Donors to fund the Brexit Party in a General Election Campaign.

Aaron Banks is not funding TBP after being hounded by the Electoral Commission, from the looks of things he doesn't need to.

Oh and for £100 you can put yourself in for a candidate in the General Election. £100 is for admin and background checking.

=================

As a supporter myself, it's interesting seeing how TBP differs from other political parties. It operates by Regional Co-ordinators followed by County Co-ordinators, which suggests that local branches will be set up "eventually" but it seems the best way to go about it while the figures are still relatively small. (There's about 138 TBP people per constituency and obviously there will be more elsewhere).

The Rubicon is crossed. May cannot cobble together a deal with Corbyn and pass it through Parliament in time even if she strikes a "Lets just stay in" deal pretending it's Brexit.

The Euro Elections are a go.

For those not in the know.

Caroline Cadwallar aka Caroline Codswallop is a writer for The Guardian and writes blatant untruths and what sounds to a British Person like the outpourings of a conspiracy theory lunatic. A lot of her derangted scribblings pretending to be journalism have been her "investigation" into the Vote Leave "conspiracy".

It is usually followed within a few hours of publishing by hasty retractions, corrections or apologies.

So a very interesting article appeared on Sky News who normally wouldn't write such interesting or gushing praise. its doing the rounds and it seems he's also twigged this is a new movement with serious and significant differences from people like the useless CUKs.

Oh, and Peterborough had a crowd of 1,800 people.

Peterborough's candidate will be announced Thursday.

Watch it be Ann.
From the amount of talent they're drawing in, I doubt it. They had a shortlist of 2 candidates by their press conference on Tuesday. National and local figures have pushed to be the candidate there and it'd be a real "acid test" for the party in the FPTP system when it has such a huge member base and funds pouring in.

The real thing that'd hurt the local parties is if they use a well known local that people are more likely to support than a "political celebrity" who's already standing for another post.

Ann's off to Brussels come the 24th of May, as is Nigel.

What's most shocking perhaps is Nige is refusing to stand as an MP. Really pushing the whole "It's not about me." angle he's now using.

Apparently it's Mike Greene.

Farage is appearing on tonight's Question time along with Rudd, Soubry, Labour MP Jonathan Reynolds and Labour backer (and leave supporter) John Mills. The venue is in Northampton, which had a heavy leave vote. Should be a very entertaining broadcast.
