As for Allen Gregory, what the hell were they trying to do? He's like this 5-year-old boy and he's precocious. IT'S BEEN DONE BEFORE INFINITY FUCKING TIMES! There is a time and place for characters like that: it was called the 80s. I don't care if Jonah Hill is behind it, no one likes precocious kids.

I tried watching that show but when they showed Allen having an erotic fantasy with his very ugly, obese principal, I stopped watching.

That was the only funny aspect of that show. Everything else was depressing. The way that bald man treated his boyfriend, and his adopted daughter, just ugh.

THANK YOU. Finally someone speaks out about this whole thing. I REALLY despised this whole "kiddy macabre" subgenre with things like Zim, Nightmare before christmas and pmuch anything with Johnny Depp in it where they try doing dark humor for kids. No, it doesn't work that way.
Well Invader Zim wasn't actually intended to be for kids originally. It was supposed to be Nick's answer to Adult Swim. Somewhere down the line, however, they chickened out and the show turned out differently from the original idea.[/quote]

No it wasn't. Adult Swim premiered the same year Zim began airing.

Nick originally wanted Vasquez to do a "Squee" cartoon - an even more misinformed idea considering the adult nature of the comics. But they always wanted something kid friendly. It got canceled because it did too poorly in the ratings to warrant its insane budget. End of story.

Also, I disagree. Zim was a good show.

The animation on Allen Gregory always looked straight out of the early to mid 90s, which was always jarring to see.

Oh yeah! Father of the Pride. I didn't even touch that show with a ten foot pole.

Cartoon Network sort had this issue with their shows for quite a while during the mid 2000's.

Billy and Mandy was good in my opinion, but then you had real shit shows like My Gym Partner's a Monkey and Camp Lazlo. Holy shit were they bad. And I'm glad they got canned.

The sad thing was that I heard the latter show was made by the same guy who did Rocko's Modern Life. What the hell happened?

Oh God CN has had quite a few, especially after the bomb scare mishap that caused the old president of CN to resign (the bomb scare was all sorts of stupid, how does someone see a metal mooninite with LED lights as a bomb is beyond me). The new CN president has been shit and has made it blatantly obvious that he wants to drag CN into network decay and replace cartoons with live action and reality shows. From what I read he pissed off a lot of animators and caused Craig McCraken and his wife (Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Lab, Foster's Home, and helped with writing and animating on other cartoons) to quit CN. Craig's wife then decided to find new employment and made the MLP show, so yes the CN president is partially to blame for Bronys.

Anyways for Cartoon Network:

The entire "CN Real" lineup, special mention to "Out of Jimmy's (Ass) Head"
The attempt to revive CN Real with "Amazing Crew" and that other show that lasted a month at the start of this year.
"My Gym Partner's a Monkey"
"What Ever Happened To Robot Jones?"
"Squirrel Boy"

As for other networks:
"Jersey Shore"
"Chasing Mummies" (A reality show about the anti-semetic, Gordan Ramsey wannabe, egomaniac then-Egyptian head of antiquities Zahi Hawass, yelling at a bunch of paid actors/actresses posing as "archeology students". Also a little bit of archeology every other episode. The reason this show was canned was due to the Arab Spring.)
"Buckwild"
"Skins"
Ok basically any reality show that appeals to 13-25 year old douches, hipsters, etc. that appeared on MTV, VH1, BET.

Lady Houligan

Mama Bear

The New Normal. Sweet mother of God was I glad to hear that was canned. That and Animal Practice.

And is it just me or does it seem like modern sitcoms are inherently unfunny?

I didn't hate Animal Practice. The monkey stuff was fairly cliche but I think the characters had a decent amount of potential to get better. Alas it never got the chance. Never watched New Normal. Came off as very tryhard from Ryan Murphy.

Didn't "Buckwild" get canceled pretty much because one dude died and one woman was sent to jail for a long time.

Huh. I never knew all that.

Well as a person who enjoys MLP FIM (raises flame shield) I guess I am kinda glad the CN president is an idiot I guess.

Yup. For dealing or buying drugs if I remember correctly.

And honestly I don't have a problem with most reality TV. It's not my thing but if it is for others then good for them.

It failed because Nick set it up to fail. No, really. They would change the schedule a day (or less...) before an episode would air (or not). The time slot was constantly bounced all over the place. And sometimes they would air a different episode then the one scheduled (or just play half an episode when a half-hour slot was scheduled). They sabotaged the show themselves as an excuse when they decided not to commit after all.

The change was just as obvious with Adult Swim. You might recall that anime aired almost every night, with the big focus on Saturday, with Sunday as the focus for their original shows. But then the anime got largely axed and designated to Saturday only. And with significantly less anime (moreso when they just began to air mostly reruns), while their new original comedies exploded all over the place and holy fuck were/are they bad. ATHF is the only show I watched and laughed at. Everything else was godawful. Especially Tim and Eric Awesome Show. FUCK that show is (was?) awful. I haven't watched Adult Swim in ages, not even for the anime anymore. Because Cartoon Network thinks it's OK to rerun Cowboy Bebop for the hundredth time but not OK to acquire the network license to air Dragonball Z Kai.

I completely forgot about the post 2007 AS shitfest they called original programming.

Granted the AS crew always hated anime and made it apparent in their bump cards over the years. After the shit president came in AS was given free reign it seems. AS became the Seth McFarlane block (now it's slowly becoming the KotH block) and as you mentioned, every other knoock and cranny of AS was crammed with stuff made by failed animation students. They basically threw spahgetti at the wall with their original shows. There have been so many that have come and gone that it's not worth it to list them all.

Then there was that disturbing cgi show called "Xavier the renegade angel" or what ever it was called. It looked like it was done by a hs student in maya and contained a main character who was a bird, ape, surfer guy with a snake for a hand as well as creepy and unfunny plots like Xavier having sex with his insane mother in a mental institution.

Also mentioning Seth Mcfarlane made me think of the Cleveland Show, probably one of the most pointless cartoons ever to air. He already has family guy and family guy mk. II (American Dad), Why does he need a third one for?

Ever since then it's Claire being like:

"I WANT TO BE Sssspecial."

And then.

"I WANT TO BE Noormal!"

And back to.

"I WANT TO BE Ssspecial."

And then.

"I WANT TO BE Nooormal."

MAKE UP YOUR MIND YOU CRAZY BITCH!

And every episode that Peter is in, he holds out his hands, and hyperventilates. Although, I had a crush on him. He was Jesse from the Gilmore Girls, what's not to love?

And then Milo Ventimualgaegaerg (guy who played Peter, I can't pronounce his last name) and Hayden Panatierre started dating, which made every scene with them gross because Peter is Claire's biological uncle. Because it's supposed to be heartwarming, because they're related, but they're probably banging in their trailers in between takes.

The only consistently good parts of the show were Hiro and HRGG. Hiro because he was the only person who didn't bitch and moan about his powers. He was excited. And this is his fantasy. And plus, George Takei is his father. HRGG was a badass. Total badass. Fast forward through the other stuff. If the show only focused on HRGG, it could have worked, or Hiro, but everyone is so intertwined that you can't.

Although Mohinder's voice is one of the sexiest voices I'd ever heard, and he always narrates the beginning of each episode, so you could watch the beginning of each episode, and then stop it.

Also, Malcolm McDowell was on the show during the first season, and every time he'd reappear I'd get really happy. Also, he has a sexy voice too.

I was glad that the Australian version of Take Me Out was cancelled. That show, like all dating shows, was absolute shit and I'm surprised that the UK version is still alive.
