Well here I was thinking Bruno Mars was black. He certainly sounds like a lot of black pop singers.
I'm pretty sure that the people REEE-ing over this have zero concept of how the market works. I think that the salt over Mars isn't really rooted in the fact that he's not black, but that their chosen black artists aren't as successful. At this point, two conclusions can be made. The first: that the market is racist and holds the black man down. The second: that people don't want to hear music about guns, whores, and drugs.
Dunno about you, but I'm more inclined to believe the second one.

So I thought Seren sounded familiar. She's worked with Gazi Kodzo and helped inspire Milo Stewart as well. She's also a major proponent of a "black economic revolution" where black people only buy from businesses owned by other black people. Her other notable views are that black people should not talk to white people and got that yes all white people hashtag going.

fftopic: Sensei is pretty much just a title of authority and respect. Every teacher is a sensei, every doctor is a sensei, your senior at work who showed you the ropes is to you a sensei. Normally, if someone's good at what they do, then they're generally accepted into whatever fray they're trying to appeal to. Eminem used to be a very good rapper when he wasn't trying to "NOTICE ME" at Trump and the general black consensus accepted that. Same for Teena Marie (iirc didn't she die really young and really early in her career? I truly can't remember) and the Beastie Boys and all these other groups. The problem is that black culture is the same as a favorite or expensive toy that blacks see as being super ultra special and don't want people to mess with or play with. You do that, and you end up like the fabled and amazing Wakanda where nothing comes in and nothing comes out and you're essentially playing isolationist because the gathered group has a collective mind that just molds itself into "NO YOU CAN'T HAVE THAT" five year old mentality.

I've actually posted about this type of thing before. Korea isn't the US. The concept of blackface doesn't exist there. And while it causes issues on the national stage K-pop really is mainly for Koreans no matter how popular gets elsewhere. Fans shouldn't expect that a culture different from their own caters to them just because they like the music.
There are actually complaints in the K-pop fan camp about colorism amongst the different singing groups anyway. Saying that darker singers don't get as much promotion and are made fun of by lighter skinned singers. Stuff about skin bleaching and lightening makeup.
The whole colorism thing is getting pretty bad overall. LSA is full of threads complaining about light skinned girls and how they need to start turning down roles. There was some salt over that Yara somebody from Grownish recently. How she's too light to play the characer because of some episode about colorism and how she should have turned down a recent role because she plays a Jamaican woman.
They can complain about blackface all they want. But the real problem today lies in black on black colorism.
Eminem truly has become an exceptional individual.
Teena Marie died in 2010. I actually thought she was still around. But she had complications from a head injury. A large picture fell on her in a hotel room years before and she suffered seizures for the rest of her life that likely contributed to her death. She dated Rick James and he abused her. She said he'd purposely whip his braids around near her so the glass beads would hit her in the face and cut her.
The fact that blacks are so obsessed with Wakanda now isn't helping much either. The constant screeching about appropriation and the general fuck whitey attitude just makes you stagnate.
