Anyone who's been browsing worldbuilding and especially fantasy worldbuilding threads on /tg/ for the past year might have seen complaints about a "bumpfag" who does nothing but ask shitty questions. This is starting to be extremely contentious to bring up because some people think he's a false flag and/or complete fabrication made to kill worldbuilding threads. And the same impermanent nature that he fights against makes chans a bad place to talk about him, so I'm setting up a thread here.
Bumpfag's posts are generally optimized to take minimum effort, expend as little possible statements of his as possible, and keep the thread alive for as long as possible. They'll also only be on threads which have hit page 10 regardless of what his post is. His dedication to bumping has given worldbuilding threads on his preferred topics a minimum lifespan of at least two weeks. Part of that is likely from how his obsession with keeping those threads alive has scared people away from having a lively enough debate for them to quickly hit bump limit.
I'd be interested in procuring statistics on magic thread lifespans before and after his appearance, I know I was autistic enough to research this but all the searching, and math, and removing M:TG generals is something for bots to do.
History
Bumpfag's first thread, as in the first that can be readily recognized as his own, seems to be this one in late January of 2019. Evidently its lack of longevity had frustrated him because his next one got repeated bumps and was resurrected 7 times. This would be the beginning of his slide into a 4chan addiction. The first discussions about him were on April as far as I can tell. People started calling him "Bumpfag" on that same January but it didn't catch on until August when some more threads dedicated to him were developed. The -oomer wojak you see at the top was made at March 4th.
Personal Life
To his credit, Bumpfag has some common sense about using the internet and has given out little details on this subject, which is part of why I'm going forward with talking about him at all especially here. My objective is to discuss him, not to do anything that could harm him. This is also to the credit of his guardians considering that he's fairly slow to learn the hard way, so they must have drilled him on this topic. In fact his refusal to mention his age might actually be going too far on this instead of an awareness that a truthful answer would be an instaban. Maybe all his attempts to obfuscate his existence be from this.
However, he's occasionally mentioned some things about himself. He's mentioned lately (February 20th) that he's committing to putting his 4chan addiction before his own health. His preferred bedtime is whatever 0500 is in 4chan's timezone. And his time on 4chan seems to be rationed, either by how wide his time is spread between obsessively checking his posts, or, by his school or guardian.
Defenses of Bumpfag
Bumpfag has a few stock defenses that he uses to deflect instead of just lying and saying that he's not Bumpfag or going nordic gamer "yes". The first is that his detractors are the real bumpfags. The second is that what he's doing is not bad at all. He's maintained them simultaneously instead of sticking to one specific narrative about his behavior.
A slightly different one is the strawman argument "actually Bumpfag doesn't make EVERY magic thread". Which somewhat breaks his "rule" against lying because he visits enough of them to see threads where no one makes that accusation at all, but it's a little more common on threads where someone cold reads the OP to be Bumpfag and he can't just say the equivalent phrase with first person pronouns. Yes, Bumpfag has actually said "I didn't make that post" when someone gets trigger happy on which posts are or aren't Bumpfag. And then there's what I'll call, "neenerposting" where he makes a minimally related response to a callout, or even just dismiss people in a calvalier fashion. In case you're just thinking "well it's autistic (and holy shit so are you) but he's not a lolcow", well, he's very easy to bait. He'll quickly rush to the defense of his interests, putting on topic posting on a lower priority. Sanderfuge and negativity for Brandon Sanderson is an especially large trigger for him.
