After skimming through a playthrough of the game, I can at least say that I can see what they were going for, but it just isn’t well thought out.
The last quarter of the game felt very much like a poor man’s Persona 3. Complete with spending a month in game barely doing anything before the end of the world. There’s even a robot waifu party member!

Seriously, the dev’s claims of being “redpilled” have always come off as facetious, what’s more likely is that he’s like Devi Ever or Ian the Chungus, a disingenuous flip-flopper who changes sides whenever the side he’s currently on (Game Journos back when the game was still in development) gets tired of his bullshit.
Except KCD, Earthworm Jim’s comic, and the Postal games all got anti-SJW/apolitical gamer support, because were all ambitious and made by respected devs. Meanwhile, it didn’t really take long for right-wing gaming communities like /v/ and KiA to recognize that under all of the controversy, this game is just bland pixeljunk, resulting in nobody really liking YIIK.
