I've been into games, comics, etc. since before gender became a hot button issue in those hobbies. I never felt the least bit harassed or excluded because I was female. Nobody gave a shit what your sex was as long as you knew what you were talking about and could back up your opinions with facts. Nerds as a whole were isolated from the mainstream then, so maybe it was more important that somebody had similar interests than what their race/gender/sexual orientation - or whatever other subcategory one could include - was.
He was an unhinged man who lived relatively close to her. He had a car and demonstrated that he was willing to attempt to drive to her. He also convinced a lot of people he was real. Being worried in that situation is the right choice.
Okay and Sasha Baron Cohen should be public enemy number one for the outlandish shit he has pulled. He fools not just every day people but heads of state. Should we worry about this deviant mastermind?

If someone made videos documenting themselves building pipe bombs and then made some bomb threats, I'd hope the cops would look into it. Similarly, Jace made a bunch of videos showing himself to be a raving lunatic with a knife. He had a car and demonstrated he was willing to drive to Brianna Wu. You and I know that he's a harmless idiot (and now we know it was a hoax), but that's not immediately apparent to everyone.

Well there you go! One is a character actor who was doing his bit, unbeknownst to people involved in the act. The other is a pretty well documented crazy.
One will go through with harmful actions (Chris), while the other does it as a hobby (Jace). He found a crowd of people who enjoyed his shtick so he evolved it.
Who can you say has been truly harmed from Jace and Deagle Nation, except the members of the Kiwifarms who needed sutures for their sides?

Looking at some articles now. It's a different beast legally. He mostly got into hot water for having people sign waivers under false pretenses.

Okay, from an outside perspective, yeah he could seem very unhinged if you judge his internet personality only. The same could be said for B-Wu if you only view her outlets on social media. I'm sure Jace/Jan is actually a normal dude at the end of the day. Hell I would drink a brew with Wu one time just to get to know the real person.

More creditable threats are subtle not dead or alive playing in the background with an overturned car and someone having a Mel Gibson meltdown.

As much as places like 4ch been perceived in the old media as the DARK INTERNET
