byuu's emulator was cycle accurate, which means it perfectly reproduces the SNES's behavior. zsnes is notoriously inaccurate and snes9x, while extremely accurate, still had a few edge cases (which byuu autistically covered on their site). Not that I like suicide-baiting weirdos, but higan is extremely important in terms of the evolution of emulation.

Nah, I think it's pretty reasonable. Despite being a mostly friendless weirdo with paranoia and depression, he was a pretty prolific person in the very large emulation scene, and has a couple friends or acquaintances in high places. BSNES was pretty recently even mentioned in a Nerrel video as being the best SNES emulator available for its cycle-accurate emulation and various quality of life upgrades that other emus don't have (I believe it's the one that reduces lag by processing it differently or something, so you can play games with tons of sprites on screen at consistent 60fps). It does make sense to me that a lot of people are grieving his supposed loss right away.
